He Proposed to His First Love, So I Married His Archenemy
Chapter 70: She Threatens to Jump, They Show Off Their Love
After hanging up, Yvonne turned to look at Wyatt. He was actually still reading his book.
"Heather is threatening to jump off a building."
"She wouldn’t dare," Wyatt said.
"What if she does?"
"There is no ’what if.’"
Yvonne smacked Wyatt on the back of his head. "Hurry up! What if something really happens!"
At Yvonne’s repeated urging, Wyatt could only put down his book and go upstairs to change.
"I’ll go. You should stay here. It’s best if you keep your face out of the wind," Wyatt said.
"If you go alone, I’m afraid you’ll say something that really provokes her into jumping. It’s fine. I’ll cover my face with a scarf."
Wyatt hugged Yvonne. "Alright then. But let me kiss you first."
"Your niece is about to jump off a building! Can you please be a little more serious?!"
When they arrived at the rooftop of the Azure Hotel, Heather had already been up there in the cold wind, freezing for half an hour. She had been huddled in a corner, but when she saw them arrive, she quickly stood up and moved toward the edge of the roof, looking utterly heartbroken.
"I don’t want to live anymore! Nobody loves me! I’m going to jump and take my baby with me, ending it all!" The lines were clearly rehearsed. After reciting one part, she had to pause and think about what came next. "Uncle, Auntie, remember to collect my body for me. I..."
"Okay!" Wyatt replied with a single word, his arms crossed.
That one word made Heather’s eyes fly wide. "Wyatt Shaw, you’re so heartless!"
"You want to call me by my name again?" Wyatt raised an eyebrow.
Heather flinched. "Uncle, I’m really in pain."
"Hmph. Serves you right!"
"You... you’re so cruel..."
Heather let out a couple of wails and, remembering Yvonne, turned to look at her.
"Auntie, I know you’re a good person. When you call someone to collect my body later, can you have them put some makeup on me? I don’t want to scare anyone."
Yvonne’s mouth twitched. "Putting makeup on the deceased is the mortician’s job."
"WAAAH, Auntie, how could you be as heartless as Uncle?"
"Uh, why don’t you tell us what happened first? Maybe we can help, and you won’t have to jump."
"You can’t help me."
"How do you know we can’t help you if you don’t tell us?"
Heather wiped away a tear and said, "Before I decided to jump, I called you two and Kyle Sharp at the same time. You both rushed over, but he refused to come. He doesn’t want me anymore!"
Yvonne whispered to Wyatt, "Who’s Kyle Sharp?"
"Her boyfriend. The father of the child in her belly," Wyatt said through clenched teeth.
Yvonne breathed a sigh of relief. "Well, is it possible he just can’t make it here at this hour?"
"Huh?" Heather froze for a second.
"It takes at least three hours to get here from Veridia, even if you’re going as fast as possible, right?"
Heather blinked. "Oh, right."
"See? It’s pretty cold on this rooftop. Why don’t we go back to the hotel room and wait for him?"
"But I still have to jump!"
"You’re jumping for his sake, not ours. Why don’t you come back up when he’s about to arrive?"
"I won’t!"
"You need to think this through. In a little while, someone will spot you trying to jump, and a crowd will gather. They’ll take pictures with their phones, post them online, and then it’ll become a huge media storm. And then your parents will find out." Yvonne deliberately paused here before asking, "By the way, your parents don’t know you’re pregnant, do they?"
Hearing this, Heather hastily took a few steps back from the edge, terrified of being photographed. She hesitated for another moment, but finally came over obediently.
"Then... I’ll wait for him in the room."
Wyatt, who had been bottling up his anger, smacked her on the back of the head.
"You just had to cause a scene, didn’t you!"
As they were going downstairs, Heather noticed Yvonne was bundled up in her scarf and asked what was wrong.
Yvonne said she had an allergic reaction to taro cake. At this, Heather got angry again.
"Uncle is so biased! I’m the one who likes taro cake, but you wouldn’t let me have any. You only give it to Auntie!"
Wyatt glanced back at Heather. "Oh, right. It’s you who likes taro cake."
Yvonne laughed. "What kind of memory do you have? How could you forget something like that?"
Wyatt gave a dry laugh. "Taro is on my blacklist now. I’m never eating it again."
Heather scoffed. "What did taro ever do to you?"
Back in the room, Yvonne got the general picture.
Heather had gone to college in Veridia, where she met Kyle Sharp, who was in the same year. The two started dating, and then, one thing led to another, and Heather got pregnant.
Feeling guilty, Heather had used her busy school schedule as an excuse not to return for Wyatt and Yvonne’s wedding.
When Wyatt went to Veridia on a business trip this time, Heather’s parents asked him to check on her. But his visit revealed that Heather was not only skipping class and living with a male classmate, but to his utter shock, he also discovered she was pregnant.
In a fit of anger, Wyatt took Heather to a hotel and forbade Kyle Sharp from seeing her. As soon as he finished his work, he immediately brought her back to Aethelgard.
The whole way, Heather begged him not to tell her parents.
Wyatt hadn’t planned on making Heather face this alone. So before he left, he told Kyle Sharp that if he was a man and wanted to take responsibility for Heather and the child in her womb, he was to come to Aethelgard and explain the situation to Heather’s parents first.
"I gave him three days. Today is the third day," Wyatt said.
Yvonne understood. Kyle Sharp must not have shown up or contacted them, which made Heather anxious, so she resorted to the suicide threat to force him to come.
"He’s not coming," Wyatt said.
"He will come!" Heather yelled.
"Would you get your head on straight? If a man had even a shred of responsibility, he would have stepped up the day I took you away, not made himself unreachable!"
"You don’t know him at all! What right do you have to say he’s irresponsible!"
"You..."
"That’s enough!" Yvonne cut Wyatt off. "It’s just for today, right? We’ll just wait with her."
"WAAAH, Auntie is the best."
Heather hugged Yvonne. The young woman must have been truly aggrieved; she couldn’t hold back her tears and started crying.
Wyatt snorted, not bothering with Heather. He went to the bathroom, wrung out a hot towel, and gently wiped Yvonne’s face before applying the ointment for her.
"You even brought the ointment," Yvonne said, tilting her head up for him to apply it. She had completely forgotten about it when they left.
"Mhm. Does it still itch?"
"Much better."
Watching Wyatt’s focused expression as he carefully applied the medicine, Yvonne found herself captivated. To be honest, this man was truly handsome: captivating eyes, a prominent nose, full lips, and skin as fair as jade...
Wyatt’s lips curved into a smile. "Want it?"
"Huh?"
He leaned down and pecked her on the lips. "This."
Yvonne’s face flushed red. Heather was still hugging her and crying.
Wyatt kissed her again. "I know you want it."
Heather deliberately let out a loud sob. "Could you please consider the feelings of this heartbroken person? Don’t flaunt your love in front of me! WAAAH, just let me jump! I don’t want to live anymore!"
