Suddenly, Wyatt Shaw snapped out of it.

He shook his head, looked around, then turned to Yvonne Sutton.

"I... I thought I saw a road over here. I..."

Wyatt Shaw took a breath. "What just happened to me?"

Yvonne Sutton hugged him. "It’s okay. It’s nothing."

’It’s nothing, it’s nothing.’ She kept repeating the words in her head, as if to soothe herself.

Back in the car, Wyatt Shaw was completely normal again.

Following the road the villager had pointed out, they returned to the main route. A quick check of the GPS showed they were very close to Bluestone Town—the small town where her aunt and uncle lived.

They both agreed to head to Bluestone Town, partly to spend time with the elderly couple and partly to treat it as a vacation.

After how wonderfully the last visit turned out, Yvonne Sutton decided to call her aunt on the way.

Her aunt was thrilled and shouted to her uncle, "Yvonne is bringing her husband back to see us!"

Then, her uncle’s voice came through the phone. "Hurry home and slaughter a chicken for them! We’ll have stewed chicken tonight."

"Oh, there’s no time for that now."

"What are you talking about? It’ll be quick."

"It needs to be killed, plucked, and then stewed. By the time it’s ready to eat, the kids will be starving."

"Just admit you’re slow at it."

"Hey! How about I stay in the field picking peanuts, and you go home and cook?"

"I can cook, but can you carry a whole sack of peanuts on your back?"

The two started bickering just like that. Just as Yvonne Sutton was about to interrupt, Rhodes’s voice came through the phone.

"Are you two done being annoying? I’ll sort it out. Dongzi, you go home and cook. The two of us will stay here and pick peanuts. When Wyatt Shaw gets here, we’ll make him carry them."

And so, the three of them came to an agreement, and her aunt promptly hung up.

Yvonne Sutton had only managed to say a single sentence and never got another chance to speak.

Wyatt Shaw couldn’t stop laughing. "No wonder my grandma likes living in town as neighbors with your aunt and uncle. It must be lively with the three of them together every day."

Her uncle’s field was right by the road leading into town. Yvonne Sutton directed Wyatt Shaw to drive onto a smaller path and park by the side.

Standing at the edge of the field, they could see her aunt and Rhodes busy at work in the distance.

"Come on, let’s go help."

Yvonne Sutton pulled Wyatt Shaw into the field, but he tripped over a ridge after just two steps. Yvonne Sutton bent over laughing. Wyatt told her to stop, but she couldn’t, which made him so mad he ignored her and stomped ahead.

Yvonne Sutton chased after him and hooked his hand with her finger.

He was placated just like that, and even took the opportunity to steal a kiss.

"Are there any firewood stacks around here?" he asked, a smirk playing on his lips.

Yvonne Sutton was taken aback. "Uh, I don’t think so. No one burns firewood anymore, so why would there be a firewood stack?"

Wyatt Shaw looked disappointed. "I think I saw a movie once where the main characters had a tryst in a firewood stack. It was so steamy and passionate."

Hearing this, Yvonne Sutton was both shocked and embarrassed. She couldn’t help but cover her face and give Wyatt Shaw a kick.

Wyatt Shaw pulled her into his arms and whispered, "How about we have our own little tryst tonight?"

"Shameless!"

When they reached the area where the peanuts were drying, her aunt and Rhodes were both watching them with knowing smiles.

Yvonne Sutton blushed slightly. "Are you just now... harvesting the peanuts?"

"Well, we took that trip to the island, didn’t we? That’s why we’re delayed."

Her aunt said, walking up to Yvonne Sutton and looking her up and down. After confirming she hadn’t lost any weight, she pulled her over to Rhodes.

Rhodes gazed at Yvonne Sutton, her fondness growing with every second. Before they even reached her, she rushed forward a couple of steps and grabbed her hand.

"Yvonne, it must have been your idea to come see us, right?"

"Huh?"

"This grandson of mine is a heartless one; he would never think of me." As she spoke, Rhodes shot Wyatt Shaw a glare.

Wyatt Shaw pouted, walked over, and hugged Rhodes, deliberately acting cute. "Grandma, I missed you so much."

Rhodes was indeed easy to please and was immediately delighted. "My good grandson, Grandma missed you too. Come, let Grandma give you a kiss."

"Ew, don’t touch me."

"Get lost. The older you get, the less likable you are."

Wyatt Shaw teased Rhodes for a moment more before straightening up and properly greeting his aunt-in-law.

Her aunt looked at Wyatt Shaw, thoroughly charmed. "Look at this boy, so handsome and polite. If he were from around here, girls from all over would be lining up to marry you. Our Yvonne is so lucky she snatched you up."

"Yes, she is pretty lucky."

Wyatt Shaw had meant to be modest, but his mouth was faster. Luckily, his aunt was easygoing and burst out laughing at his comment.

The peanuts had already been dried, but they were still on the vines and needed to be picked off.

"Don’t you have a machine for this?" Wyatt Shaw asked.

"We do, but we don’t grow that many, so it’s quick enough to do by hand," her aunt said.

"Besides, the busy farming season is over, so everyone’s free. We can work and chat at the same time." Rhodes’s movements as she picked the peanuts were deft, not at all like the graceful matriarch of a wealthy, prestigious family.

Several sacks had already been filled with picked peanuts. Rhodes told Wyatt Shaw to carry them to the edge of the field.

Her aunt said, "Look how fair-skinned he is. He’s probably never done heavy labor. Can he carry it?"

Yvonne Sutton was also skeptical. "A sack of peanuts is heavy. Don’t push yourself."

Wyatt Shaw was indignant. "Are you seriously doubting my stamina?"

Yvonne Sutton’s mind immediately went elsewhere, and her face turned red.

"Why are you blushing? I meant I’ve hauled bricks at a construction site before. You didn’t think I meant..."

"Shut up!"

Wyatt Shaw chuckled, then hoisted a sack of peanuts onto his back with surprising ease.

Watching Wyatt Shaw’s back as he carried the sack of peanuts away, her aunt was even more pleased. "He’s smart and strong. My Yvonne definitely won’t have a hard life with him."

They used Wyatt Shaw’s Cullinan to haul the peanuts back. There were so many sacks that the trunk wouldn’t even close.

By the time they got back, her uncle’s chicken was already stewing in the pot.

That evening, the family ate together. When her uncle went to pour Wyatt Shaw a drink, Wyatt quickly stood up, took the bottle, and poured a glass for his uncle first, then for himself.

Seeing Wyatt Shaw fill his own glass to the brim, her uncle nodded in satisfaction. "The boy doesn’t try to be clever with family. That’s a good quality."

He then added that the liquor was cheap and worried Wyatt Shaw might not be used to it.

Wyatt Shaw quickly said he’d had Niulanshan that costs a little over ten yuan and that it tasted pretty much the same as a bottle worth tens of thousands.

Then the two of them started drinking. Wyatt Shaw didn’t dare hold back and kept drinking until his uncle was under the table.

That night, Rhodes pulled Wyatt Shaw over to sleep at her place next door, while his aunt had Yvonne Sutton stay at their house. The two were forced to separate, but in the middle of the night, Wyatt sent Yvonne a text telling her to come out.

In the car, Wyatt Shaw kissed Yvonne Sutton fervently, pressing her hand against his waist. 𝐟𝕣𝗲𝕖𝕨𝗲𝐛𝗻𝗼𝐯𝗲𝚕.𝗰𝚘𝐦

The heavy scent of alcohol on his breath was intoxicating, making Yvonne Sutton feel dizzy and weak all over.

"Darling..."

"Baby, I know you missed me."

"You’re the one who missed me."

"You’re right. I missed you like crazy."

They were a legally married couple, yet here they were in a car in the middle of the night, making it feel just like a secret affair.

Fortunately, it was late, and the streets were empty.

Just as their passion was reaching its peak, there was a sudden noise from outside.

"WOOF! WOOF!"

Yvonne Sutton jumped in surprise. She peered out the window and saw a large, yellow-brown mutt right by the car door, barking furiously at them.

Wyatt Shaw cursed, "Piss off! Don’t interrupt my business!"
