Chapter 76: Chapter 76: Passed Out Cold From Anger

Vincent Reed, who had just recently helped her catch a cheater, was now catching one in his own home.

Yvonne Sutton opened her door, went inside, and set down the dried fish. She then poured a cup of hot water, brought out a plate of sunflower seeds, and sat on the steps in front of her door, where she had a perfect view.

Vincent Reed was kicking Stanley Lynch over and over, his rage having consumed all reason. Stanley, meanwhile, curled up on the ground, clutching his head and wailing in agony.

Just then, Wendy Winters came out, crying as she tried to pull Vincent back.

"Stop hitting him! You’ll kill him if you keep going!"

Vincent shoved Wendy away and spun around to roar at her. "Wendy Winters, I, Vincent Reed, have loved you for fifteen years! I put you on a pedestal and treated you like a princess. You said you didn’t love me, and I said I could wait. You said you fell in love with someone else, and I waited for you with a broken heart. Tell me, what have I ever done to wrong you? You told me you were pregnant with his child, but he had a wife and couldn’t marry you, so you asked me to. And I married you. You had an affair with him, and when you couldn’t hide it anymore, I helped you hide it. He got dumped by his wife and was drowning in debt, so you asked me for money to pay it off for him. And I gave it to you. You said you were determined to break up with him and come home to build a life with me. I was willing to let bygones be bygones, but you... you fucking brought him into my home to mess around."

"Wendy Winters, do you just think I’m that pathetic? That no matter what you do, I’ll just come crawling back like a dog?"

Wendy shook her head, sobbing. "No, I promise this is the last time. I won’t see him or contact him ever again."

"How many times have you made that promise to me?" Vincent asked through clenched teeth.

"This time it’s for real, I swear! Vincent, just give me one more chance," Wendy begged, clutching Vincent’s arm.

"You want me to give you a chance, is that it?"

Wendy nodded frantically. "I promise, he and I..."

"Then I want you to get rid of the baby in your belly!"

The words left Wendy stunned.

Vincent sneered. "Can’t bear to? Because it’s *your* and *his* child? Well, what a shame, because I’m no longer willing to raise his kid for him. I’m done being the giant sucker!"

After her initial shock, Wendy realized Vincent was serious and collapsed weakly to the ground.

"Vincent, you can’t do this to me. You love me. How could you bear to hurt me like this?"

Vincent let out a bitter laugh. "All these years... I must have been out of my goddamn mind, giving up... for you..."

At this, Vincent irritably kicked Stanley Lynch again.

"Get out! And don’t ever let me see you again!"

Stanley Lynch scrambled away, not once looking back at Wendy.

Yvonne, still cracking open sunflower seeds, couldn’t help but shake her head. That Stanley Lynch had no backbone at all.

Stanley was gone, but Wendy remained on the ground, pleading with Vincent.

"Vincent, I’m begging you, please let me keep this child."

Vincent ran a hand through his hair in frustration. "Impossible. Of course, you have another option: divorce me!"

"No, Vincent, I... I’ve fallen in love with you. I won’t divorce you."

"You’re in love with my fucking money, is what you mean!"

"How can you think of me like that? Do I... do I look like I care about a little money?"

"Then why did you come back? Why are you asking me for money again?"

"I told you, it’s for an investment project."

"Hah. You really think I’d still believe you?"

"Just trust me one more time, please?" Wendy said, hugging Vincent. "The very last time."

Vincent’s face was as dark as a thundercloud. "How much do you need this time?"

"T-twenty million."

"You really take me for a complete idiot, don’t you? You—"

Before he could finish, Vincent’s vision suddenly went black. He staggered back two steps, then crashed heavily to the ground, unconscious.

Yvonne jumped in surprise. She never imagined Vincent would literally get so angry he’d pass out.

Dinner was at the old family residence. When she arrived, Wyatt and Mr. Rhodes hadn’t returned from the office yet.

Heather Rhodes was there, getting a lecture from Daisy Shaw.

Seeing Yvonne, Daisy said to Heather, "What are you waiting for? Apologize to your aunt."

Heather stuck out her tongue, then got up and went over to Yvonne. "Aunt Yvonne, I’m sorry," she said respectfully. "I’ll never joke around like that again."

Yvonne guessed it was about the time Heather had prank-called her pretending to be Wyatt’s mistress. She replied graciously, "It’s fine. It’s not like I fell for it anyway."

Hearing this, Heather was impressed.

"Aunt Yvonne, how did you know I was lying? What if Uncle Wyatt really did have a mistress?"

Yvonne shook her head. "He wouldn’t."

"You have that much faith in him?"

"Of course. Even if he did fall in love with someone else, he wouldn’t deceive me. He’s above doing something like that." 𝑓𝘳𝘦𝑒𝑤𝑒𝘣𝘯ℴ𝘷𝘦𝓁.𝑐𝑜𝑚

"Wow!" Heather looked envious. "I wish I could have a husband like Uncle Wyatt."

As soon as she said it, she thought of Kyle Sharp, and her head dropped gloomily.

Yvonne and Daisy exchanged a look. They pulled Heather back down onto the sofa and began to comfort her, telling her she needed to move on.

"The sooner you see a man like that for who he is, the smaller your loss will be."

Heather nodded. "But I still need you, Grandma Daisy and Aunt Yvonne, to help convince my parents to let me have this baby."

Yvonne’s brow furrowed slightly. "You’ve made up your mind? You’re really going to have it?"

Heather hummed in assent. "I’ve thought it through. I want my child."

Wyatt didn’t come for dinner that evening. After eating, Yvonne took the subway home. She walked from the station exit along the road toward the villa.

At a fork in the road, she saw an old, white-haired woman selling apples. Beside her was a wheelchair, and in it sat a gaunt young man, presumably her son.

The old woman was thinly dressed, shivering behind her apple stand, but she had a thick blanket draped over her son. His eyes, however, were vacant, and he mumbled ceaselessly to himself, as if he had some sort of mental problem.

This area was already sparsely populated, and with the cold weather, she had no customers at all.

Yvonne picked out a bag of apples, but when she saw the old woman’s hands were cracked from the cold, she couldn’t bear it and decided to buy all the remaining apples. The old woman thanked her profusely as she bagged the apples, offering to help carry them to her home.

There were four large bags in total, which Yvonne certainly couldn’t carry alone, so she asked the old woman just to help her to the villa’s gate.

"Will your son be alright on his own?" Yvonne asked, glancing back at the young man.

The old woman shook her head. "He’ll be fine. He’s like a block of wood, can’t move at all. He stays wherever you put him."

"Did something happen to him?"

"He was beaten by someone."

"That severely?"

"Ai, if I hadn’t gotten on my knees and kowtowed to that person, my son would have been beaten to death."

Yvonne gave three bags of apples to the security guard, asking him to share them with the other guards. She only took one bag back with her.

Later that night, Yvonne was already asleep when Wyatt returned, reeking of alcohol.

He took a shower, then held her and began to kiss her.

"David Sutton asked me out for a drink."

Yvonne grew warm from his kisses. "Did he say anything?"

Wyatt slipped off Yvonne’s pajamas. "I thought he was going to apologize to me, but instead he said..."

"What?"

"He said I wronged Hannah Abbott. Hah. Who’s Hannah Abbott? Oh, right, Ethan Abbott’s sister. How the hell did I wrong her? He must be crazy."
