Chapter 1652: Chapter 1578: Death God’s Temple Throne

Huang Yi traversed seas and crossed mountains, finally arriving at the Death God’s Temple.

Strictly speaking, the Death God’s Temple is not an ordinary palace building, but rather a vast array of remains.

Looking around, countless giant skeletal remains are scattered across the land, some human-shaped, some like various beasts, and others of no discernible species—it is as if they were towering mountains standing on the earth, shrouded in a sinister chill.

In comparison to these gigantic bones, Huang Yi was as insignificant as an ant. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

These skeletal remains were transformed into buildings, with palace-like spaces inside, seemingly chaotic but imbued with a subtle formation layout.

This is the core area of the Dead Star, once connected to all the realms in the heavens, drawing countless beings who came daily to worship. Leaders from worlds unnumbered willingly lined up for centuries to see the Death God.

But now, it was empty and desolate, not even a guard in sight, having turned into a wasteland of death.

Huang Yi furrowed his brow; could it be that after the Death God’s death, the people of the Death God’s Temple scattered? Otherwise, such an important place should surely have been guarded.

Huang Yi flew over the skeletal remains and eventually arrived in front of a standing giant humanoid skeleton.

All other bones lay fallen on the ground, but this one alone stood, maintaining the posture it had in life, its hollow eye sockets gazing over the earth, commanding awe.

This was the main hall of the Death God’s Temple, where the Death God once received envoys from the myriads of heavens and realms.

Huang Yi flew into the enormous left eye socket, entering the cavity of the skull.

Here was empty, with a massive throne of white bone hovering solitarily in mid-air, seemingly covered by the dust of history.

Beneath the hovering throne of white bone was a bottomless pit, appearing a fleshy dark red as if it were once the esophagus of this skeleton, showing no signs of decay despite the long passing of time.

Examining the arrangement, this humanoid skeleton stood at the center of all the bones on this expanse, while the throne occupied the brain region, subtly signifying the throne’s supremacy.

Huang Yi gazed at the throne for a while, then flew over and sat down without hesitation.

"Boom!" As he sat upon the throne, a sudden crash echoed from deep within the esophagus, like something rushing upwards, causing the entire skeleton to tremble, akin to an earthquake.

"Whhoosh!" Green flames erupted from within the esophagus, engulfing the entire inner space of the skull.

The green flames also burst forth from the two giant eye sockets, resembling two ghostly green eyes.

Meanwhile, the scattered bones on the distant land lit up from the eye sockets one after the other, like a signal being passed on, spreading continuously afar.

Eventually, this dead silent land was fully illuminated, resembling a ghostly green city, with green flames flickering in the eye sockets of every skeleton, magnificent yet eerie.

With this simple act of sitting, Huang Yi seemed to have revived the Death God’s Temple, infusing it with new life. Bathed in the green flames, he felt no burning sensation; it was cool, like ghostfire.

Then, from the now-lit skeletal remains on the wasteland, translucent wisps of mist rose, condensing into human shapes that swarmed from all directions toward him.

They entered through the eye sockets and flew into the main hall, one after another kneeling before Huang Yi.

"Ernst, The King of the World, Karlutes has come to pay respects to Lord Reaper!"

"The Leader of the Flying Spirit World, Yuwang has come to pay respects to Lord Reaper!"

"The Leader of the Void God Cult, Xu Cangling has come to pay respects to Lord Reaper!"

...

One by one, the translucent figures knelt before the bone throne, announcing their identities with respectful tones.

These figures hailed from various worlds and factions, the supreme leaders of these domains, wielders of the power over millions yet appearing as servants, kneeling before Huang Yi at this moment.

Once, the Death God’s renown spanned countless worlds, with innumerable beings venerating him; even for a time, the First World revered him, with God Sealers visiting the Demon Realm after their divine enthronement to personally pay their respects to the Death God.

Soon, the entire vast space within the skull was filled with kneeling figures, myriad factions represented in dense numbers.

"Obert pays respect to Lord Reaper!" At that moment, a familiar voice rang out.

A white-haired elder emerged from the crowd; his hair, eyebrows, and beard all were white, even his eyes, unlike the rest, manifested with solid form rather than translucent apparition.

"Obert, so you’ve come!" Huang Yi nodded with a smile, greeting him as an old friend, lacking any pretentious air of superiority.

This elder was the previous Prison Warden of Heroes’ Prison, the one who entrusted it to Huang Yi’s management. Last time Huang Yi crossed through the Gate of Heaven Realm to the Dead Star, it was he who aided Huang Yi in refining the Book of Heroes to fully control the Heroes’ Prison.

"Actually, I might be the first to have officially come to pay respects!" Obert said, glancing at the translucent figures with a smirk of derision. "They’re nothing more than soul avatars, dispatched hastily upon catching the new stirrings in the Death God’s Temple, projecting a wisp of their souls from the myriads of heavens and realms to probe the situation, but their true selves didn’t come. Back when the Death God still reigned, they wouldn’t dare pay respects with mere soul wisps—no matter how mighty a faction leader, they had to come in person to pay their respects."

"I see!" Huang Yi nodded, having sensed something amiss for a while; these translucent figures kneeling before him seemed respectful and decorous, but the tone felt perfunctory, as if just for show.

A glimmer of sadness flashed across Obert’s white eyes as he said, "Back then, so many faction leaders came to pay respects—this hall and even the surrounding wilderness were packed full, and many had to queue for centuries to have an audience with the Death God. After the disappearance of Lord Reaper, his influence has steadily waned; now that he’s truly gone, most factions no longer worship him. Only a few remain to pay respects, and even they send only soul avatars, showing no true sincerity."

Huang Yi nodded thoughtfully, continuing to ask, "And what of the Death God’s Temple itself? As I flew in, I noticed the Dead Star seems quieter than last time; not a single Divine Envoy in sight. Has something happened?"
