How I Accidentally Built a Kingdom
Chapter 34 - A Pretty Good Battle
As the last of the dust and debris cleared, I saw Daniel standing in front of a massive boar.
It stood at about twice Daniel’s height, looking at us with hatred burning in its eyes.
Despite his last words, Daniel had once again subconsciously stepped between me and the incoming enemy.
The man might always claim to be ’just a businessman’ but in the last few weeks of training I had seen the glow in his eyes.
He had loved it.
He loved the process of building something.
Whether that be businesses, systems to improve the village, or building himself.
He loved to see progress.
And now standing before that massive boar, he would get to see the progress he had made with his combat abilities, and I could see how much it excited him.
The boar was pawing the ground as it looked down at us.
Its focus was naturally drawn to Daniel standing in front of it with the sword loosely held at his side. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
I stepped back a few more feet, and moved to the side a bit more.
Everyone knows a charging boar can’t change direction easily, and if Daniel sidestepped the first charge, it would leave me in the direct path.
Now obviously I would be able to sidestep it quite easily, but I wasn’t planning on getting entangled in their battle.
It was supposed to be a training exercise for Daniel after all.
With a final dust storm created by its paw, the boar was off, in less than three bounds it was already almost on top of Daniel.
Since the moment it had started its charge Daniel hadn’t moved an inch.
As it neared him I started to get worried that he might have frozen in fear.
I was even worried that I made a massive calculation mistake.
Just when I was about to make a move, Daniel leapt to the side.
The massive tusks of the boar missed him by inches.
Its paws left deep grooves in the ground as it skidded to a stop.
Without coming to a complete stop, it circled around, and charged back toward Daniel again.
And once again Daniel waited until it was almost upon him before diving to the side again.
"Am I really not allowed to use any magic!?" He yelled out.
A smile tugged at the corner of my lips.
He had just evaded two of the thing’s attacks, clearly he didn’t actually need to use any magic, he just wanted the easiest way to kill it.
"No magic! You have to kill it using only the sword!" I yelled back.
Some people might think that me yelling back would suddenly turn the boar’s attention to me, but they clearly don’t understand how beasts work.
Once a beast is enraged by someone, they would ignore anything and anyone in the surroundings, until they either kill that person, or is killed by them.
For a third time it charged at Daniel, but this time Daniel approached the situation completely differently.
Instead of waiting for it to get close, he charged the beast back.
The view of a human that seemed small compared to the approaching beast charging it back was astonishing.
Just before the beast reached him, Daniel dropped down on his back, sliding just beneath the tusks of the charging beasts.
As he slid beneath its snout he started swinging the sword, with two quick strikes he had left deep gashes on each of its front legs.
With another strike he had cleaved a deep gash in its underbelly, and with another two strikes he left another two deep gashes in its hind legs.
Every action happened in a miniscule amount of time.
The sword had been only a blur as he slid beneath the beast.
The beast kept on storming ahead, but this time instead of turning when it came to a stop, it had simply stopped and stood still.
Daniel had stopped his slide, and stood in one fluid motion, not even bothering to turn back to face the beast.
With a massive bang the beast fell.
When the dust of its fall finally settled, I could see Daniel slowly approaching it.
I was just about to warn him to be very careful.
Beasts were particularly aggressive when they were severely injured, boars in particular had taken many lives in those situations.
People tended to approach them with dropped guards in situations like those, and that was then they would make their moves.
But a warning to Daniel was unnecessary.
He came to a stop just outside the boar’s reach.
It was still alive, its chest heaving as it took short ragged breaths.
I could see Daniel studying the beast laying before him, for a few moments I couldn’t figure out what he was doing, until he drew back his arm.
With a grunt, he flung the sword in his hand toward the beast.
The sword flipped end over end only twice, before it plunged deeply into the beast’s hide.
With a final grunt, and some struggling, the boar’s breathing stopped.
Somehow Daniel had flung the sword perfectly into its heart.
How he had found the specific spot it was I still don’t know, but his aim had been perfect.
And just like that he had killed his second beast.
Which he celebrated by dramatically dusting his hands off, as if to signal a job well done.
And I have to admit, that it definitely was.
"What level would you say this one was?" He asked me as I approached him.
"It was about the same level as the tiger," I answered.
Actually the boar was of a significantly higher level than the tiger, it was at least a mid-level beast in this forest, but he didn’t need to know that.
"Well, at least now I can kill beasts at the same level with, or without, magic." Daniel said as he pulled the sword out of the beast.
He wiped the blade on its pelt before handing it back to me.
"What do we do with this thing?" He asked as he used his thumb to point at the body.
"Can you use your storage spell to bring it with us?" I asked.
"Of course I can, why?"
"Because we can sell it at the guild when we reach the city." I answered.
"The adventurers guild?" Daniel asked.
I only nodded at this.
"Don’t we have to be registered with them before we can sell them beast corpses?"
Once again I nodded.
"Yeah... no, not interested in that, is there anywhere else we can sell it?"
Why did the man insist on doing everything in his power to try and stay out of the spotlight?
Did he have no idea how good being a high ranked adventurer did his faith?
"Don’t worry about it, I’m already registered as an adventurer." I answered.
I actually expected him to be slightly stunned, or even have a similar reaction to what he had when I told him I had a sister, instead he simply nodded.
A reaction that honestly actually stunned me.
"Good, I’ll just toss it into my storage then." Daniel said, not asking any questions, just turning around and doing as he said.
As he was doing this, a couple of new ideas were already making themselves known in my mind.
The adventurers guild might just be the perfect next phase of my plan.
