I am the Clone of a Death Row Inmate
Chapter 427 - 300: Seeking Fortune and Avoiding Calamity
Mr. Ya went over and knocked on the door, but there was no response.
Su Ze scanned the interior directly with his Spiritual Power. "There’s no one inside," he said. "And there’s a thick layer of dust on the table. It looks like no one has lived here for a while."
Hearing this, Mr. Ya walked over to a small shop nearby and asked, "Did the Draco family next door move away?"
The shop owner looked up at Mr. Ya. Wary of a stranger, he didn’t say much and simply nodded.
Mr. Ya casually bought something from the shop before asking again, "Do you know where they moved?"
Now that Mr. Ya was a customer, the owner’s attitude improved noticeably. He spoke up on his own accord, "They moved away a few years ago. Draco became an evolver and really made something of himself. Once he saved up enough money, he was bound to leave this hellhole.
"They just said they were moving into the city. I don’t know the exact location, but they come back to stay in the old house for a few days every year. They’re still in touch with his relatives in the village, so you could try asking them."
Mr. Ya thanked him and left the shop.
He said, "The last time I saw Draco, he was still a Pupa Stage evolver. He was already in his forties and had spent all his savings on extracts, only to fail his second evolution.
"Otherwise, he would’ve been able to afford moving into the city long ago. Being a Hunter is a bit dangerous, but it’s very lucrative."
As he spoke, Mr. Ya led Su Ze to the home of one of Draco’s relatives.
After he knocked, a middle-aged woman opened the door, and Mr. Ya explained their reason for visiting.
The middle-aged woman eyed Mr. Ya and Su Ze warily. "Who are you?" she asked. "What do you want with him?"
"Don’t be alarmed. We’re old friends of his," Mr. Ya said with a smile. "If you don’t believe me, you can give him a call to confirm."
The middle-aged woman shook her head. "We don’t have his number. Draco’s a big shot at the Cocoon Stage now. He moved to the rich district ages ago. Why would he bother with poor relatives like us?"
Cocoon Stage?
Mr. Ya and Su Ze exchanged a look, both surprised by the news.
Mr. Ya had just said that Draco failed his second evolution. In such cases, simply surviving was considered lucky, but it almost always left irreparable damage that completely blocked any future path of evolution.
Of course, for someone like Su Ze now, that kind of damage could be repaired.
After all, Draco had only been at the Pupa Stage. For Su Ze, healing the injuries of a Pupa Stage evolver was incredibly simple.
But for Draco, a Pupa Stage evolver from the slums, it would have been next to impossible.
The natural remedies capable of healing such an injury were normally far beyond what he could afford.
Yet, according to his relative, Draco had not only healed the damage from his failed evolution but had also successfully completed his second evolution.
For someone who had already failed once, the success rate for a second attempt should have been even lower.
’Looks like this Draco had some kind of fortuitous encounter...’
Both Su Ze and Mr. Ya were convinced that Draco must have had some kind of extraordinary encounter; otherwise, he couldn’t have defied his fate like this.
’Then again, for someone who sold coprophage extract that contained a Bloodline Crystal, having a stroke of good fortune wasn’t surprising at all.’
"Do you know Draco’s current address?" Su Ze asked, taking out a few bills and pressing them into the middle-aged woman’s hand.
"I’ve never been to his new house, but I know the general area." The woman quickly took the money, stuffed it into her pocket, and told them the location she knew.
Su Ze nodded. "A general location is good enough. Let’s go."
