I Can Hear the Heart's Voice of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Chapter 495 - 209: Lu’s Clinic (Part 2)
"By the way, my nephew who works in the cardiology department at the Second Provincial Hospital will come over later. You can just delegate some of the injections to him," Lu Guoquan added.
"That’s great!"
Li Feng immediately slapped his thigh in approval. Lu Xuan, who studied traditional Chinese medicine, might not be of much help here. After all, there is a big difference between Chinese and Western medicine. Even if Lu Xuan came to the clinic, at most he could help maintain order, but probably couldn’t do much else.
But Lin Yongzhen is different. He works at the Second Provincial Hospital, so he definitely knows how to give injections. After prescribing the medicine, he could completely leave the rest to Lin Yongzhen.
"By the way, Old Lu, should your nephew be eligible for an attending physician position by now?" Li Feng asked.
When the two were at the clinic, they often talked about family matters, and Lu Guoquan frequently mentioned Lu Xuan and Lin Yongzhen, so Li Feng knew a bit about them.
Besides, Lu Guoquan had just mentioned this a couple of days ago, so he remembered it.
"By the end of this year or early next year," Lu Guoquan thought for a moment. He wasn’t sure either, as he had only heard a mention of this time from Lin Yongzhen before.
"That’s soon."
Li Feng chuckled and said, "If he comes, I can be a lot more relaxed this year."
Hearing this, Lu Guoquan also laughed a few times and said, "Today you won’t just be a little relaxed; I’ve sent three people over to help you. Old Li, besides seeing patients and prescribing medicine, you won’t need to do anything else by yourself."
"Three people?"
Li Feng was puzzled: "Besides Lu Xuan and Lin Yongzhen, who else is there?"
"A classmate of Xiaoxuan’s, who happened to come over to hang out this time."
"I see..."
Li Feng understood, and then said: "They’re here to have fun, they’re guests, and you’re making them help out at your clinic? You’re such a wicked capitalist, never missing a chance to exploit anyone."
Lu Guoquan responded with feigned annoyance: "Is there a capitalist who can’t even earn ten thousand a month like me? If all capitalists were like me, the whole world would be billionaires. Besides, if my son goes to help, why can’t his friends come along to see? You really can’t say anything nice."
Li Feng seemed to grasp Lu Guoquan’s meaning, and after a moment of silence said, "You still need to go to the city, so let’s not chat too much. I’ll have some tea and go open the clinic. There’s been a lot of flu going around, so the sooner we open, the sooner we can start."
"Should I have Xiaoxuan and the others head over now?"
"No rush. There are few people in the morning. Do you think everyone’s like me, getting up this early? Most are still snuggled up asleep in bed now; who’s going to come to a clinic at this hour?"
Li Feng laughed and said, "Let Xiaoxuan and the others come over when they’re free. If they get here too early and there’s no one at the clinic, they’ll be bored with nothing to do. Sitting here all day isn’t that comfortable; young folks might not be able to sit still."
Hearing this, Lu Guoquan almost wanted to say that his son wouldn’t have any problem sitting in a clinic for hours, helping out at his own family clinic is simple as playing games.
However, he did share one thought with Li Feng.
If the trio of Lu Xuan were to come, the only one who might really help would be Lin Yongzhen, who studied Western medicine.
As for Lu Xuan and Ji Xiuwen, who studied Chinese medicine, they would just maintain order, maybe move things around a bit.
After finishing the call with Li Feng, Lu Guoquan had no intention of lingering at home, and straight away rode his scooter to the bus station to catch a bus.
Meanwhile, after Lu Xuan and his friends finished breakfast, they didn’t dawdle and took Lu Ran’s car to the Lu Family Clinic.
Just as the three got out of the car, Ji Xiuwen saw that there were already two or three people sitting inside the clinic, and whispered, "Looks like your family clinic is doing quite well, no wonder you weren’t worried at all before. Were you planning to come back and take over the family business if all else failed?" 𝒇𝙧𝙚𝓮𝔀𝓮𝒃𝙣𝓸𝒗𝒆𝒍.𝙘𝒐𝒎
"It’s only been doing okay this past month. Before that, no losses were considered good enough."
Ji Xiuwen didn’t say anything. He had heard about the state of the Lu Family Clinic from Lu Xuan back when they were studying, and it indeed wasn’t good; not only wasn’t it making money, it was actually losing some.
The trio watched Lu Ran drive away before heading into the clinic.
Li Feng was giving patients IV drips, and when he saw the three arrived, he greeted them, "Xiaoxuan, you’re here. Sit down for now; it’s not busy yet. If you’re bored, you can wander around nearby, and come back when it gets busy."
"No worries, Uncle Li, do your thing. You don’t need to mind us. Being at the hospital is way more boring than being at a clinic for us. We’ll sit here, and you can just call us if you need us."
"Alright."
Li Feng didn’t say much else, returning to his work.
Lu Xuan glanced at the antibiotics in Li Feng’s hand, and then at the other two patients who had been coughing and had runny noses for a while, and frowned.
The reason these people came to the clinic for injections and medicine was mainly that clinic rules were a lot more relaxed. Patients wanted antibiotics, and clinic doctors generally didn’t refuse; they’d use them right away.
Sometimes, even in severe cases, they wouldn’t just use one type of antibiotic; they might use a combination, so patients often recovered quickly.
However, hospitals were different. Without fever or concerning blood tests, generally, they wouldn’t use antibiotics, at most they’d prescribe some medication.
And going to the hospital for some meds costs about the same as getting an injection at the clinic.
Plus, going to the hospital wastes time.
But, the clinic using antibiotics like this isn’t really good for the patients.
Still, many patients wish to recover immediately after taking meds, so the clinic, making money in the process, doesn’t think about it much.
Even though with these thoughts, Lu Xuan didn’t say anything.
It’s not because it’s his family’s clinic but mainly because one should watch what they say. Saying something at this moment could inadvertently offend Li Feng. He won’t be inheriting the clinic, so it will still rely on Li Feng to maintain its reputation.
So, he chose not to look any further.
Western medicine has its ways, and clinics have theirs.
He shouldn’t meddle, nor could he.
Plus, the way clinics use meds is generally linked to the patients’ requests. If not, Li Feng wouldn’t use antibiotics so readily.
While Lu Xuan was lost in these thoughts, Li Feng had finished his tasks and came over to the group, smiling, "I thought you’d still take some time before coming, didn’t expect you to come so early."
Lu Xuan quickly stood up and said, "We were just sitting at home, so we thought we’d come here and see if there’s anything we can help with."
The two were chatting and laughing, when suddenly, a woman’s voice echoed from the clinic entrance, "Old Li, Old Li, quick! Check what’s wrong with me. My head feels like it’s going to explode. A couple of days ago, it was just a slight headache, but this morning it’s gotten worse. Didn’t expect that as soon as I arrived at work, it feels like there are explosives installed in my head..."
The person hadn’t arrived yet, but her loud voice was already coming from next door.
"Yan?"
Li Feng seemed to know the person, recognizing the voice immediately, but still went to the door and said, "What’s up, making such a fuss this early?"
Yan Xiaoping was rubbing her forehead and temples with both hands and said helplessly, "What else could it be, feeling unwell, of course. Give me a painkiller injection quickly. If I don’t get one soon, I think I’m going to die from the pain."
"I told you a few days ago that you didn’t look well and advised you to get a checkup at the hospital."
"Going to the hospital would cost a few hundred bucks at the least!"
Yan Xiaoping looked at Li Feng with irritation: "Forget that, just give me a painkiller injection first, let me see how I feel, and if it’s bad, I’ll then do a hospital checkup."
"Alright."
Li Feng was a bit helpless and then said, "Besides the headache, do you have other discomforts?"
"Yes."
Yan Xiaoping replied without thinking, "A lot."
