I Can Hear the Heart's Voice of Traditional Chinese Medicine
Chapter 498 - 211: A Miracle Doctor Visits Lu’s Clinic
Faced with the crowd’s doubtful gaze, Lu Xuan pondered for a moment and said, "If you haven’t learned about pulse diagnosis, it might be somewhat troublesome to understand, but just listen.
In terms of clinical symptoms, the string-like pulse is neither an Yang pulse nor a Yin pulse.
As recorded in the "Benhu Pulse Study": "The string pulse is Yin within Yang." or "External Yang, internal Yin." The "Pulse Scripture" states: "The string pulse is Yin." The "Pulse Formulas" states: "The string pulse is Yang." And the "Medical Zen" states: "For Cold Pathogenic Disease with both Chi and Cun pulse being string, it is a Shaoyang disease. Shaoyang is the pivot, the junction of Yin and Yang. If the string pulse is combined with floating and thin, it is the original pulse of Shaoyang,... If the string pulse is combined with sinking, choppy, and weak, wouldn’t it be called Yin?"
Also quoting the master of traditional Chinese medicine, Chen Xiuyuan, "The string pulse originates from the liver and can be either Yin or Yang." These all indicate that the string pulse, in distinguishing between deficiency and excess or cold and heat, still depends specifically on the condition and accompanying pulse.
From this, it can be determined that this disease lies in the liver and gallbladder meridians, belonging to a half-exterior half-interior syndrome. Ms. Yan’s headache is closely related to liver issues.
This syndrome indicates high blood pressure, or excess liver Yang, accompanied by Shaoyang syndrome. The main treatment should harmonize and resolve Shaoyang, assisted by pacifying and quelling liver Yin to lower blood pressure. A modified Little Chaihu Decoction is suggested.
Ms. Yan cannot endure the acute headache, which requires immediate symptomatic relief, so the treatment focuses on addressing Shaoyang syndrome, primarily using agents to counteract reversed flow, calm the liver, clear fire, and brighten the eyes.
Yet fearing that the power of herbal remedies is limited and may not sufficiently reduce excessive liver Yang, adding antelope horn powder is necessary.
Antelope horn belongs to Yin within Yang, having a sinking nature, mainly entering the Jueyin liver meridian, clearing the liver, dispelling wind, relaxing the muscles, descending Qi, reducing fire, and draining liver heat to relieve symptoms of headache and dizziness.
Upon saying this, Lu Xuan turned to look at Li Feng, "Uncle Li, do you have paper and pen?"
Li Feng was still in shock, looking at Lu Xuan with disbelief.
Though he wasn’t sure whether Lu Xuan’s statements were right, accurate, or whether his medical skills were profound, just being able to memorize the contents of those ancient medical books so clearly and matching them symptomatically, few people could achieve this.
When Lu Guoquan previously said how outstanding Lu Xuan was, although Li Feng didn’t disbelieve it, in his heart, he thought Lu Guoquan might be exaggerating a bit. But now, Li Feng thought he might have guessed wrong; perhaps Lu Guoquan was being modest when speaking of his son Lu Xuan.
This kind of skill might be unparalleled across the nation.
"Uncle Li..."
Lu Xuan’s voice brought Li Feng back from his shock; seeing Lu Xuan staring at him, he quickly nodded, "Yes, yes, yes, I’ll get it for you."
Li Feng then turned around, brought paper and pen, and handed them to Lu Xuan. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
Subsequently, he showed a curious look.
What does Lu Xuan need paper and pen for?
While he was puzzled, Lu Xuan, who took the paper and pen, began to write and draw on the blank paper, and before long, he had written a prescription:
Chaihu 6g, Huang Jing 12g, Ginger Pinellia 9g, Dai Zhe Shi 9g, Xuanfu Flower 9g, Hang Chrysanthemum 12g, Chuanxiong 6g, Raw Gypsum 15g, Gou Teng 15g, White Peony Root 12g, Mint 4.5g, Baiwei 9g, Kudzu Root 15g, Fuling 9g, Polygala 9g, Fresh Ginger 3g, Chinese Dates 6g
Additionally, Antelope Horn Powder 3g, to be dissolved in water and taken six times.
Note: Three doses, one dose every other day.
Li Feng leaned in to take a quick look, seeing that Lu Xuan had written out the prescription he just mentioned.
Having finished writing the prescription, Lu Xuan directly handed it to Yan Xiaoping, "Take these three doses as prescribed, and when you’re done, you can come back here for a review. If I’m not here, you can have Uncle Li contact me, but don’t delay. I’ll only be at home for about eight or nine days this time."
Receiving the prescription with a curious look, Yan Xiaoping said, "Will the time be enough then? I heard that taking traditional Chinese medicine is usually slow, and it might take a month or two to see results. I can’t travel to Yong City to get more medicine from you, can I?"
This was the main concern for Yan Xiaoping.
As for whether this prescription could cure her condition, she wasn’t that worried.
Although Lu Xuan seemed young, after listening to his previous explanation, she instinctively decided to trust him; such skill is not common among ordinary people.
But if she had to take medicine for a long time, and Lu Xuan would return to Yong City in a few days, she would have to go there to get more medicine in case she wasn’t cured yet.
That’s troublesome and impractical.
Lu Xuan smiled and said, "Your situation isn’t that severe; from what I see, two or three courses of medication will improve you significantly. Even if I really have to return to Yong City, just send me a picture of your tongue coating when needed. Besides, Chinese herbal prescriptions usually don’t change much every time. Just follow it for a while; you can also continue for a few more days to consolidate the effects and prevent relapse."
"Ah, I see..."
Hearing that her condition wasn’t that serious and would only require a few doses to recover, Yan Xiaoping was relieved, but then something seemed to occur to her, and she asked, "So where do I get this prescription filled? At the County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine?"
The County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine?
Lu Xuan couldn’t help but chuckle.
If he were a doctor at the County Hospital of Traditional Chinese Medicine and wrote this prescription with a word of notice, the hospital would indeed fill it for Yan Xiaoping, but he wasn’t affiliated with any hospital in Anjiang County. The County Hospital probably didn’t even know who he was, let alone casually fill the prescription for Yan Xiaoping.
