I Married the President
Chapter 233: She Has No Idea How Formidable the Number One Sister Is
Thomas Miles roared, "You idiot! That viper is a pet raised by Quincy Manor, understand?!"
"Quincy Manor..."
Hearing those two words, Marcus Miles’s heart sank.
’No wonder that arrogant woman dared to use "Mrs. Quincy" as her pen name. She has Quincy Manor backing her.’
Thomas Miles continued, "A brainless woman like Lily Yariel should be kicked to the curb. Mrs. Quincy is interested in building her career on your site now, so you need to promote her. That way, Quincy Manor might cut you some slack."
"I know what to do, Uncle. I’ll call you if anything comes up."
After hanging up, Marcus Miles gripped his phone tightly. Though his eyes betrayed a deep reluctance, he thought of the long-term consequences and forced himself to discard his cherished favorite. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮
’Lily... I’m so sorry.’
...
「In a wealthy residential complex.」
Lily Yariel looked at the latest 500,000 in royalties displayed on her author dashboard. She hummed a little tune, feeling smug, and, unable to contain her excitement, posted a screenshot of her earnings to her social media feed.
She added a caption: "So bummed. This month’s royalties were 50,000 less than last month. Looks like I’ll be living on air next month."
As soon as she posted it, people immediately started fawning over her.
A: Lily, you’re so amazing!
B: Lily, you’re my inspiration.
C: Here’s to your toxic motivation... I’ll drink to that.
Reading the fawning comments from these struggling authors, Lily Yariel’s heart swelled with superiority.
’See that? She was the number one romance queen of the female fiction genre, easily pulling in 500,000 a month. Who the hell did Mrs. Quincy think she was?!’
’Hmph!’
Suddenly remembering something, Lily Yariel quickly sent a message to Marcus Miles: "Ming, are you still coming over tonight?"
A system prompt appeared: [The recipient has enabled friend verification. You are not their friend. Please send a friend request to chat.]
’What the hell!’
Lily Yariel frowned. ’Did Ming delete me?’
She tried adding him back, but he rejected the request.
With no other choice, Lily Yariel tried calling him, but the line was busy every time. The call wouldn’t go through.
’What is going on?!’
Furious, Lily Yariel tried contacting him through QQ, but she couldn’t reach him there either.
Resigned, she tried contacting her editor-in-chief, Crystal Rowan. "Crystal, do you think Ming’s phone was stolen? I can’t reach him."
Crystal Rowan (CloudScript EIC): It’s not just you. I can’t reach him either.
Lily Yariel (The Fairy): What’s going on?
Crystal Rowan (CloudScript EIC): No idea.
Lily Yariel (The Fairy): Never mind. Go back to what you were doing.
After sending the message, Lily Yariel habitually opened the CloudScript Books app.
When she glanced at the tipping chart, she noticed an unfamiliar book title, and a flame of jealousy ignited within her.
"’What Do I Do If I Want to Break Up With You Today, Too?’ Heh... what an idiotic title. It must be another shitty novel by some fucking idiot!"
After her ruthless tirade, her fingers seemed to have a mind of their own, and she clicked on the book’s homepage.
When she saw the pen name "Mrs. Quincy," her expression instantly darkened.
’That bitch. How dare she come write on CloudScript Books? Does she have any idea who the queen bee is around here?’
’It’s just the tipping chart. She could take back the top spot in a matter of minutes!’
Lily Yariel first went to her reader group to play the victim, claiming she was being hounded by Mrs. Quincy and was too upset to write. Then, she used a few of her alternate accounts to reply to her own post and tipped her own book several thousand.
This move undoubtedly aroused intense sympathy from her loyal fans, who rushed to tip her book as a way of comforting her.
She expected to shoot back to the number one spot on the tipping chart, but she was still stuck in second place, not budging an inch.
’What’s going on?’
