I Married the President
Chapter 251: Not Well at All, I’m Sick
A deep, gentle male voice came through the phone. "Sorry it’s been so long since I contacted you. It’s even busier here than at the manor, so calling isn’t easy."
Claire Sinclair couldn’t imagine just how busy he was, nor did she dare to ask. She simply replied politely, "It’s fine. If you’re busy, then stay busy."
An awkward silence fell between them.
Claire Sinclair’s eyes shifted, and she couldn’t resist asking, "When are you coming back?"
"Not for a while."
"Then when, roughly?"
"I might not even make it back next month."
’This month is only half over, and he might not even be back next month. Doesn’t that mean it’ll still be a long time?’
Hearing that his return date was still uncertain, Claire felt a profound sense of loss. "I get it. It’s nothing."
"Claire."
"Hm?"
"Are you doing okay?"
Claire Sinclair barely had to think about the question before answering directly, "Not well at all. I’m sick. I’m dying!"
Hearing this, Yara Quincy’s heart leaped into her throat. ’Is this woman going to tattle on me?’
She hurriedly snatched the phone back and said to her brother, "Brother, she’s lying to you! There’s nothing wrong with her, she just wants you to come back and keep her company!"
With that, Yara Quincy quickly hung up.
Based on her knowledge of her brother, she knew he definitely wouldn’t call back from a place like that.
Sure enough, even after waiting a long time, the phone remained silent.
Yara Quincy let out a sigh of relief and said to Claire Sinclair with a smile, "He hung up. My brother’s very busy. You can wait until he gets back to chat with him."
Claire Sinclair’s brow furrowed slightly. "You don’t actually think one phone call is enough to make me forgive you, do you?"
Yara Quincy’s hands clenched into fists. "Don’t go too far!"
"Me, go too far? Hah..." Claire Sinclair chuckled and moved to shut the door.
Yara Quincy immediately put her hand out to stop the door. "Claire Sinclair," she said in a low voice, "what more do you want from me?"
"I haven’t decided yet. But when I do, you’d better be ready to come whenever I call. Otherwise..." Claire Sinclair trailed off meaningfully, a sly smile playing on her lips.
Although she was resentful, Yara Quincy had to bite the bullet and agree. "Fine. I promise."
Claire Sinclair said nothing more, closed the door, and walked quickly back to her bed to lie down.
She had only been on her feet for a moment, but her body already felt impossibly weak.
’What on earth is wrong with me?’
’It was just one beating. How could my body get this weak...?’
Claire Sinclair couldn’t understand it. Out of the corner of her eye, she glanced at the health supplements she had tossed on the floor and frowned.
’I’ve always been a bit anemic, so taking these blood-building supplements shouldn’t hurt. Hopefully, they’ll do my body some good.’
At that thought, Claire Sinclair dragged her exhausted body out of bed, picked up one of the boxes, and opened a vial to see if it would work.
After drinking it, she didn’t feel anything, so she went back to bed.
Remembering the sight of Yara Quincy eating humble pie to apologize, Claire Sinclair couldn’t help but frown.
’A proud, arrogant young lady like her wasn’t being sincere at all. She was just swallowing her pride because she was afraid of being punished by her brother.’
’No one should be able to escape responsibility for their wrongdoings. So, when Adrian Quincy gets back, I’m still going to tell him what happened. I can’t handle a princess like her; only her brother can.’
’I don’t want to think about it anymore. I’m so tired.’
...
Whether it was just her imagination or not, Claire Sinclair found that the health supplements actually seemed to be working.
After taking them for several days in a row, she began to regain her strength, and the color returned to her face.
As soon as she felt better, she couldn’t wait to get back to work at the company.
