I lifted Yuan up, and at once my eyes widened slightly as I saw her legs.

Powerful strides rolled through the columns of shelves before turning to the path that led to the alcove where I was standing with Yuan.

Kassie strutted toward me with a frightening glare. Her dark, lustrous armor was stained with splashes of blood.

Kassie stopped less than a meter away from the steps that ate the distance between her and the alcove. She spared Yuan a glance and suppressed a gaze that might have cursed the poor girl before turning to me with unsheltered loathing, uttering just a single statement.

I pulled Yuan closer with one hand.

"What about it?"

There might have been a little fright in my voice, but every ruler started with little acts of defiance such as this.

’I should prepare myself for the consequences of my actions...’

While I waited for her response, my gaze suddenly tightened.

A mischievous grin appeared in my mind while I listened to Kassie.

I folded my hands and stepped forward, leaving Yuan. This situation was getting slightly interesting.

Kassie’s voice seemed to carry faint contempt, too faint to be noticed.

’Was I overthinking it, or did she just sound offended...’

I observed Kassie for a moment before placing my hand beneath my jaw, thinking about the half-assed, need-to-do-better report.

While my instinctive thought was to spare Kassie the earful about giving reports, knowing very well she had never been in a position like this, I went against it and spoke in a stern, reproachful tone.

"Really, Kassie, what in the low-effort world of reports did you just hand out to me? If this was how your subordinates were reporting important information to you eight thousand years ago, would you have been able to take hold of the Empire?"

’You degenerate commander!’

I wanted to add that curse so badly, but there were limits to how ambitious one could get. Especially when dealing with ancient beings that lived simply for the love of destruction.

Kassie seethed with muted anger. Her expression was carved from frozen stone, and for a second she said absolutely nothing.

Then she sighed deeply, and an emotionless, straight voice breached the distance between us.

"The reason why the church may be latching onto the Crystal Clan seems to be connected to the treasure map that Levi stole. There is a place called Eisenmark. The Crystal Deep Clan has established a fortified base there from the beginning of their history as a clan. In fact, they may have sprouted out of that place, according to the man’s words."

She paused and continued thoughtfully.

"Although the Inquisitor vehemently cursed him and believes they’re simply heretics, the church may have chosen to ally itself with a less heinous heretic to get rid of a more heinous one due to their low influence in the Waterlands."

I studied her words silently, a small smile appearing on my face as something amusing surfaced.

"But you and White Feather seem to think differently..."

Kassie was silent, giving me a cold stare.

"The church may be after the same thing Levi is after, right?"

Kassie shrugged, then smiled humorlessly.

"It’s good to know their treacherous nature remains the same. Destroying them a second time will be worth it."

Humorless or not, a smile on Kassie’s face made my heart thunder!

’Goddamn! Why does she have to be so beautiful!’

My eyes couldn’t help but glide down her entire body in that moment.
