Noelle hastily signed, "It’s not that I don’t have confidence in you."

It was because she was getting too close to Wyatt Yates. Tristan Lawson would surely think Wyatt was helping her, and she couldn’t be sure what Tristan might do in response.

"If you have confidence in me, then don’t overthink it. Besides, this treatment doesn’t require you to go abroad. He’s taught me the method, so you can just come to my hospital."

Noelle was able to make some sounds today, but her throat felt a little sore. She was already thinking she should probably go to the hospital tomorrow to get her vocal cords checked.

After all, she hadn’t spoken in years. Her vocal cords must have atrophied.

She didn’t feel comfortable seeing other doctors. One slip-up, and people might find out.

She could only make a few sounds and didn’t even know if she could truly speak again. If other people found out, they would inevitably start to gossip.

Seeing Wyatt Yates for this sort of issue was by far the safest option.

’Since the trouble with the Yates Family has died down for now,’ she thought, ’I’m just going to see Wyatt for a medical reason, not to ask him to recommend a divorce lawyer. As long as I’m careful and Tristan doesn’t find out, it shouldn’t affect the Yates Family.’

Noelle thought it over for a long while before finally nodding in agreement.

Meanwhile, Sophie Hughes had already left Westhill Villa.

Although Tristan Lawson had answered her question, she was not at all satisfied with his response.

She and Tristan had seen each other often over the years, but this time, after returning to the country, she had a distinct feeling that something had changed.

After Sophie Hughes left, Tristan Lawson didn’t return to his room. Instead, he dialed Smith’s number.

"Are you asleep?"

"Not yet, Tristan. It’s late. What’s up?"

"I’m the biggest investor in your new film. Can you arrange a role for someone?"

Smith chuckled. "Tristan, you want to play the casting couch game too?"

"You could say that."

Tristan actually understood Smith’s methods. The director had high standards for his films and insisted on personally casting every role.

He knew Sophie Hughes, so if he hadn’t approached her, he must have had his reasons.

’Sophie has barely asked me for anything over the years. The fact that she’s asking now means she must really want this role.’

Smith hesitated. Tristan had never asked him for a role before. Plus, without Tristan’s backing, who knew when his first film would have even been released. It was rare for Tristan to ask for a favor, and it would be difficult to refuse him.

"Tristan, I’m waiting on someone. If I can’t get them, then I can agree to your request."

Smith still hadn’t given up hope on Director Ford’s student.

"Is this person that important?"

"Mhm, I’m a big admirer of her work. She might not agree, but give me a few days."

Smith wanted to wait a little longer.

"Fine. I’ll wait to hear from you."

Tristan didn’t press Smith to agree on the spot. After all, Smith had his standards. Otherwise, every one of his films wouldn’t be a blockbuster.

「The next day.」

Early in the morning, as Noelle left her apartment, she ran into Hugo Sterling at the community gate.

"Hey, you haven’t had breakfast yet, have you? Want to go together?"

Hugo had been to Noelle’s small apartment the day before. He knew she had just bought the place and moved in. Her kitchen wasn’t set up yet, so she probably wouldn’t be eating at home.

’I left in such a hurry last night,’ she thought. ’I should probably explain things to Hugo.’

’Most importantly, I have a feeling Hugo can help me with the divorce.’

She got into Hugo’s car.

They went to a nearby breakfast restaurant together.

After they ordered, Noelle took out her phone and typed a message.

"Mr. Sterling, I’m so sorry about last night. I didn’t think Tristan Lawson would show up."

"I’m the one who should be sorry. I had already spoken to him, and he said he wasn’t coming. Someone else in my family must have invited him."

When Hugo had called Tristan and told him not to come to his grandfather’s birthday banquet, he was actually just trying to mess with him.

He hadn’t actually meant to uninvite Tristan.

He had said it deliberately, thinking it was unlikely Tristan would actually leave with Noelle. He didn’t want Noelle to know he’d been deceiving her, as he genuinely wanted to get closer to her.

He couldn’t quite put his finger on why, but seeing her was just... different from seeing anyone else.

"By the way, my grandfather absolutely loved the birthday gift you gave him. I came looking for you today because there are two things I need to tell you."

Noelle looked at him intently, ready to listen.

"First, Old Master Shaw asked me to see if you’d be willing to apply for intangible cultural heritage status for your art. Second, my grandfather wants to make you his god-granddaughter. He was planning to ask you publicly at the party last night, but you left before he got the chance. And, of course, that also means he didn’t get to give you the gift he had prepared for you."

The reason he hadn’t brought the gift was because Old Master Sterling wanted to see Noelle again and talk with her more.

’Applying for intangible cultural heritage status is a good idea,’ Noelle thought. ’It would also help fulfill one of my grandmother’s last wishes.’

As for becoming Old Master Sterling’s god-granddaughter...

She needed to think about it.

’He’s showing me such high regard. If I refuse, I’ll seem cold and ungrateful.’

’But if I agree... I only have six months left to live. It would just bring more people sorrow in the end.’

Noelle continued typing on her phone. "Why is Grandpa Sterling being so kind to me? Is it just because of my paper-cutting?"

Hugo read the message and replied with a smile, "It’s not just because of that. There’s something I haven’t had a chance to tell you. When I brought your art home the other day, my grandfather recognized your grandmother’s style immediately. Your grandmother... she was my grandfather’s first love."

Hugo relayed all the stories Old Master Sterling would always reminisce about to Noelle.

Noelle never would have expected that.

For as long as she could remember, she had never met her maternal grandfather. Her mother had passed away early, and her father had disappeared. She hadn’t seen him in all these years.

She knew almost nothing about her grandmother’s life when she was young.

Noelle typed another message on her phone. "Since that’s the case, I don’t think it’s necessary for him to make me his god-granddaughter. I’ll still visit Grandpa Sterling often in the future. Mr. Sterling, as you know, I’m just a very ordinary person. Marrying Tristan Lawson was an accident, and we’ll be divorcing soon. I don’t want to get too involved in the circles he moves in. I hope you can understand."

’What a silly girl,’ he thought. ’Becoming a part of the Sterling Family would only help her standing with the Lawsons.’

’Any other woman would have probably jumped at the chance.’

But Hugo could understand where she was coming from.

She had been married to Tristan for years, but he had never taken her to a single public event.

Without a powerful family background of her own, she was naturally out of place in Tristan’s world.

It seemed she really was determined to get a divorce.

"Noelle, Kyle Sawyer has always run his mouth. That day at The Carmine Club, when he was talking about you, Tristan got really angry. It doesn’t seem like he’s completely indifferent to you. Besides, you two have a six-year-old son. I don’t quite understand... why are you so set on getting a divorce?"
