I Stepped Aside for Her, Now They Beg My Forgiveness Every Night
Chapter 142: Don’t Be Afraid of Offending Him, We Must Sue
Yesterday afternoon, with Tristan Lawson there, Noelle Sutton hadn’t had a chance to discuss the specific details of their work with Mr. Smith.
So, she was still standing at the hospital entrance, needing to arrange a meeting place with Mr. Smith before catching a ride.
At that moment, she was on the phone with Mr. Smith.
Wyatt Yates ran out after her. Spotting her familiar figure, he jogged over.
Noelle Sutton had just hung up.
"The Little Mute."
Noelle Sutton turned around. Seeing Wyatt Yates, she smiled and signed, "Why did you come out again?"
"I don’t have anything to do today, so let me take you to Mr. Smith. I didn’t even know he was in Glenwater. He’s leaving tomorrow, so I’ll go catch up with him."
Wyatt Yates had just mentioned that he knew Mr. Smith, having once invested in one of his films through a friend.
So, Noelle Sutton didn’t refuse his offer.
After getting into the car, Noelle Sutton took out her phone and sent a message to Attorney Miller.
[Attorney Miller, hello. My husband is taking our son and Sophie Hughes to a children’s paper-cutting event today. In a public setting, our son is telling people that Sophie Hughes is his mother. If my husband doesn’t deny it, this should be very strong evidence. Please go and secure it.]
Tristan Lawson had no idea Noelle Sutton would be gathering evidence this way. He had never seen her meet with Attorney Miller, so he couldn’t possibly know that was the lawyer she had hired.
Hugo Sterling had been helping her, and she trusted he wouldn’t tell Tristan Lawson about any of this. If Tristan found out ahead of time, he could hire his own lawyer and come up with countermeasures, which could prevent the divorce from going smoothly.
She figured that gathering evidence today would go very smoothly.
If evidence for all the points she provided could be successfully gathered, it should be enough for a judge to rule that Tristan Lawson’s actions had severely damaged their marital relationship.
Hugo Sterling had gotten drunk last night and hadn’t met with Attorney Miller. But this morning, the first thing he did upon arriving at his company was call Attorney Miller into his office.
Yesterday, Attorney Miller had organized the points for evidence collection that Noelle Sutton provided. He attached existing evidence to the file and clearly marked the points that still needed proof. As long as Hugo Sterling confirmed he was willing to risk offending Tristan Lawson by taking the case, Miller would go gather the evidence as quickly as possible.
For a lawyer like him, winning a divorce case against Tristan Lawson—with powerful backing—would be an incredible, high-profile victory for his career.
Just then, he received Noelle Sutton’s message.
Attorney Miller couldn’t help but exclaim, "CEO Sterling, CEO Lawson has gone too far! Today, he’s actually taking Sophie Hughes to the Lawson family’s young master’s paper-cutting competition. And that kid... he’s a real handful, openly calling Sophie Hughes his mother!"
Attorney Miller showed the message to Hugo Sterling, whose brow furrowed deeply.
Then, he read through the rest of the information Noelle Sutton had given Attorney Miller, and it made him so furious he felt he could cough up blood.
Last night, he had said Kyle Sawyer probably refused to join them for dinner because he thought Tristan Lawson was a scumbag. That had been an understatement.
The fact that Noelle Sutton had put up with him for seven years was a testament to her patience.
Seven years in a secret marriage, disliked by her in-laws, and even treated this way by her own son... One could only imagine how horribly Tristan Lawson must treat her. 𝙛𝒓𝒆𝙚𝒘𝒆𝓫𝙣𝓸𝙫𝓮𝒍.𝒄𝒐𝓶
’Children are simple creatures. They learn their behavior and way of thinking from the adults around them. If Tristan Lawson had shown Noelle Sutton even a shred of respect, Joshua wouldn’t dare treat her like this.’
’That little brat is just despicable!’
’He even told a nurse at the hospital that Noelle was their family’s nanny.’
Hugo Sterling clenched his fists. "We absolutely have to win this case for her," he told Attorney Miller in a low, firm voice. "Don’t worry about offending Tristan Lawson!"
What made him even angrier was an incident in Cygnus. Noelle Sutton had called Tristan Lawson for help, and he had clearly understood her distress but did nothing.
Hugo had seen news reports about the thunderstorm in Cygnus that day. Noelle had been so frightened she’d gone into shock and fallen unconscious. If the police and hotel staff hadn’t rushed her to the hospital immediately, she might have died.
Tristan Lawson treated her so callously. ’If she really died one day,’ Hugo thought, ’it’s possible no one would even know.’
’She’s all alone and can’t speak, completely unable to express her feelings properly. If even I won’t help her, and she can’t get this divorce... how helpless must she feel!’
"Alright, I’ll head to the children’s paper-cutting competition now to get the evidence. I’ve already drafted the complaint, and I’ll have my assistant file it with the court immediately."
This was time-sensitive evidence; it had to be collected right away.
The other pieces of evidence could be dealt with after this one was secured.
"We’ll go together."
Hugo Sterling wanted to see with his own eyes just how far Tristan Lawson and Joshua Lawson would go.
They were really taking advantage of the fact that Noelle Sutton couldn’t speak.
’None of those Lawsons are any good!’
On the way to meet Mr. Smith, Wyatt Yates, worried that Smith might become a rival for Noelle Sutton’s affection, said, "Smith has some Asian ancestry, he’s mixed-race. His daughter is absolutely beautiful. I’ve seen her a few times—she’s adorable, and she’s already six years old."
Previously, whenever Noelle Sutton was in Wyatt Yates’s car, they couldn’t really chat.
He had to focus on the road and couldn’t watch her sign. The sound-emitting necklace made things much more convenient.
Noelle Sutton typed on her phone, letting the necklace speak for her.
"I didn’t realize he had a daughter. I thought he wasn’t married. I’ve never seen anything online about him being married."
"He’s in the entertainment industry, so of course he’s protective of his child and hasn’t made it public. Besides, he’s not married."
Wyatt Yates didn’t mention that the child was born out of wedlock.
’The adults’ affairs have nothing to do with the child.’
’Of course, he also had a slight ulterior motive. If The Little Mute knew Smith had a child, then after her divorce, should she ever decide to remarry, Smith would definitely be out of the running.’
’One rival down, more to go.’
’He’d been waiting in line his whole life; he absolutely couldn’t give anyone else a chance.’
When they arrived at the hotel, Mr. Smith saw Noelle Sutton and moved in for a hug.
After all, they were quite familiar with each other.
She was not only Tristan’s wife but also Wyatt’s childhood friend.
Wyatt Yates stepped forward, causing Mr. Smith to embrace him instead.
After letting him go, Mr. Smith was about to hug Noelle Sutton, but Wyatt Yates coughed twice and cleared his throat. "Smith, we don’t really do hugs as a greeting around here. A simple hello is fine."
Smith just smiled, well aware of Wyatt Yates’s petty possessiveness.
’She wasn’t even divorced yet, and here he was, acting as if Noelle Sutton were already Mrs. Yates.’
After the three of them sat down, communicating with Mr. Smith was much easier for Noelle Sutton, thanks to her sound-emitting necklace.
"Mr. Smith, are we booking our plane tickets together?"
Mr. Smith heard a pleasant female voice and looked around for a moment before realizing it was coming from her necklace.
He thought for a moment before answering Noelle Sutton. "Tristan seemed very unhappy yesterday. And he didn’t seem to want you to go abroad. Have you two talked it over?"
