Chapter 140: Chapter 140: Monster Inside

"Ginro Musashi... I haven’t heard that name for a long time." Carter said.

"Who is he?" Chiaki said.

"He’s my sect brother." Carter said. There was a Toad Poison Sect so he just made up a new Sect of his own. "Heavenly Sky Sect."

The three gasped hearing the name. Not many sect dared to use such a divine name.

Tenmaru frowned, "Wait a minute... If you two are in the same sect, why doesn’t he know your name or your appearance?"

’Ah, shit! Forgot about that plot hole!’

When he gave Tenmaru the quest, he didn’t have a good idea about the relationship of Ginro Musashi and Shinto Mikoto yet. He just gave Tenmaru a very vague idea of what he needed to do.

’Time to bullshit!’

"He left before I became a Shrine Maiden. I was a nobody back then." Carter said.

"Hmm..." Tenmaru rubbed his chin in deep thoughts.

’Welp. I hope he buys it.’ Carter thought.

Tenmaru was actually thinking about something else entirely.

’There are many Shrine Maidens? How many disciples are in this sect?’ Tenmaru thought.

"I am here to assist you in building a Shrine. Please use me."

"May I ask why my sect brother told you to do this?" Carter asked.

"I want to become his student. His challenge for me was to help you build a Shrine." Tenmaru said.

"Ah, I see. Musashi is a Master of his own so he does have the right to accept students." Carter nodded, adding more lore to his characters. "Chiaki and her clan are currently helping me with this. But there is one thing I need you to do."

"Please tell me!"

"I need obsidian. It’s a rare type of black rock. It has the power to rebel evil. I need it to build a statue of the Unnamed."

"The Unnamed?" Koji raised an eyebrow.

"That’s who you just met. The black swordsman."

"You know? I’m sorry. What am I even talking about? Of course, you know. You told me about this before."

"Precisely."

"A statue for him? He’s very strong, I admit that." Tenmaru said. "But he’s no where near an actual god."

"That is only his human form. He won’t show his true self unless it is absolutely necessary. The Unnamed... can destroy an entire city with one strike if he wants to."

Carter wasn’t lying. If he used Zeneros Blackburn and all of his stackable abilities, he could easily wipe everything out. He had done that back in the Holy City of Manaca.

Now, he had even more destructive power because the Eldritch Knight was now a Champion.

Tenmaru nodded, "I understand. I will accomplish this task. If I do, I hope you can contact Master Ginro and tell him I complete the task."

"Don’t worry. He knows. All disciples of Heavenly Sky can sense the shift of Fate." Carter continued to lie his way through.

"Kazou." Carter said.

The Land Spirit appeared in the room. "Yes, my lady?"

"Please guide Tenmaru here to a place with obsidian."

"Yes, my lady."

"Remember. This is an individual task. You must not ask anyone for help and you must complete it alone. Kazou is only there to witness everything."

"I understand!"

Carter already had a good idea on how he could test this young man. He still had a Werewolf skin that he hadn’t test yet. It was the perfect skin to put as an obstacle in front of Tenmaru.

That night, Kazou led Tenmaru into the mountain range.

"There’s a cave system under the foot of the mountains. If you’re lucky, you’ll find obsidian."

"That’s easy enough. I thought this would be harder." Tenmaru shrugged.

"An honest advice for you." Kazou said. "Lady Mikoto. The Unnamed. These are not ordinary Awakens. They’re different. I saw the Unnamed fight. He could already be called a god. That man slaughtered an entire city of Yokais by himself. And that isn’t his true form. And nothing goes past Lady Mikoto’s eyes. She could see everything.

If she said there would be a challenge in front of you, it would be there. So I would take this matter more seriously if I were you."

Tenmaru’s expression turned serious. He nodded. "Thank you. I will."

The man and the spirit went inside the cave.

Carter watched everything as a small Terror Bat from afar.

’It’s time to play the bad guy!’

The bat flew into the cave system via another entrance. His Sonar Echolocation allowed him to learn the complex pathways easily.

He managed to find obsidian easily.

Carter didn’t know if obsidian had the ability to rebel evil or not. But it was black. And black was a good color to carve Zeneros’s Dark Angel form.

[SILVER INVOKER EQUIPPED]

’Let’s prepare the scene!’

Carter used Silver Invoker’s Twin Formation to create a cell within the cave, just in front of the obsidian mine. He used his ability to shape element to make the prison cell look ancient and terrify.

Then he put on five words at the entrance to the passageway. ’DO. NOT. COME. MONSTER. INSIDE.’

’That should be eerie enough’

Carter wrote it in this world’s language for a more believable vibe.

[CURSED JOHN COLLINS EQUIPPED]

’Show time!’

Carter used Ghost Clothes to make himself look pathetic. He had a prisoner outfit on him.

He had also prepared a few cuffs and chains. He put them on himself and lay down, waiting for his scene partner to arrive.

With Sonar Echolocation, he knew exactly where Tenmaru was each time.

The young man went around in circles for a few hours, before finding the passageway.

"Do not come, monster inside." Tenmaru read the letters. He gently touched the words. "These words are faded. It must be here for decades already."

"Why do I have a feeling what you need is inside?" Kazou said.

"Should I turn back? Find a different area?" Tenmaru asked a very sensible question.

"Maybe. But wouldn’t that make this entire task pointless?" Kazou answered.

The Maiden could have fetched the obsidian herself. She must knew something was here. With her power and the Green Serpent, she wouldn’t be afraid of whatever monster inside.

But she gave him this task. It was a test. And if Tenmaru chose an easier solution, he might not pass.

"Here we go." Tenmaru braced himself and walked inside.
