INTERSTELLAR ERA: MY MIND IS A LIBRARY
Chapter 79: FINALLY, PEACE
"Rion, call Lilura again," Silas said once more, still floating in the air.
"Hello," the cheerful voice came from the other side.
"Why didn’t you pick up earlier?" Silas asked, already descending.
"Michael asked me to stay quiet no matter what, so I didn’t have a choice," Lilura’s gentle voice came from the other side.
"Ohh," Silas nodded in understanding. "So, how is it going?"
"He found clues already, but won’t say anything until he meets you," Lilura said.
Silas smiled. "Okay, return. That’s enough for today."
"Yes."
The call hung up and Silas looked to the side, at Miller and Billie.
There was the hostage, still rooted in the position he had been held.
In his hand was a walking stick which he used to balance himself.
He walked to the trio and bowed.
"Thank you for saving me," he said.
A normal person would have been scared, but in a world where cultivators roamed, everyone had been trained to get accustomed to death and blood.
They nodded.
"If only he knew we were the cause," Miller thought.
After the man left, they all looked at each other. For a while there was only silence, then Silas spoke.
"What happened?" He asked.
Billie was the first to speak.
"His aether is kind of special, like Governor Max’s and Alfred’s," she said.
"I don’t know the full scope of its power, but it allows him to phase through materials and somehow resurrect after dying."
She emphasized the word dying, in an attempt to make Silas grasp the full weight of the skill.
Silas caught on quickly, then could not help but raise an eyebrow.
"If he can resurrect, doesn’t that mean?" He held back his words as he turned to where the corpse still lay, fresh and blood soaked.
"No, Billie used one of her skills to disable his aether," Miller said from the side.
Silas furrowed his brows. "So she has used her skill on herself too," he thought.
"But why did he need a hostage?" Silas asked, still not finding any connection between the hostage and the scene.
"He heard Billie talk about the time limit on her skill, so he was using the hostage to buy time."
Silas looked at Billie, then blinked.
Again.
"Who says that in a battle?" He asked, as if this was the most ridiculous thing he had ever heard.
Billie shrugged.
"We learn every day."
Silas smiled. "So woman-like," he muttered.
The tension in the air eased as they burst into laughter.
Then both of them lost the light in their eyes.
Their bodies began to fall.
Silas was there in a flash, catching them before they could hit the floor. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝒆𝔀𝒆𝙗𝓷𝒐𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝓸𝓶
The after effect of the Transcension Potion had kicked in.
"But they should be fine within a few hours. I am sure they did not push themselves to a degree as insane as when I fought Han."
He began to ascend into the sky slowly.
Miller was held in his left arm and Billie in his right.
Flying through the air gently, he reached the house within 10 minutes.
Thankfully, this base was in the same city as their house.
Otherwise, Silas would have had to make a few stops along the way.
After flying such long distances between cities to save the others, he was also tired.
The elevator doors chimed open and Silas stepped in.
As they reached the floor and the doors opened, maids were already there, waiting to receive them.
At the forefront was Aiden, as calm as ever.
When he saw Billie’s battered body, he raised a brow.
Without hesitation, he ordered the maids to collect Miller and Billie from Silas’s arms.
They heeded, quickly taking both of them in.
Silas only watched as the maids carried them to a certain room. He did not know the exact place.
"Excuse me, Master Silas, I would like permission to leave and take care of both of them," Aiden said with a bow.
Silas nodded as he stepped out of the elevator fully.
"Okay."
"Not like he needed my permission to take them before," Silas thought dryly.
He walked toward his elevator, where he saw Clara.
"Welcome home, Master Silas. I hope your mission was smooth sailing?" She asked with a bow, only rising when she finished her sentence.
Silas nodded. "Yes, it was fine."
As he reached the elevator, he turned to look at her again.
"Is anyone back yet?" He asked.
"Lady Mira is back," she replied. "She is currently in her room."
Silas nodded, then stepped into the elevator.
He entered his room and jumped into the bed like it was a long lost treasure he was finally finding after years of searching.
He was tired, both physically and mentally.
Mainly because he had rushed to save the others.
Although his own fight had been simple, the same could not be said for theirs.
"Thank goodness though, no one died," he muttered as he stood up again, this time heading for the bathroom.
The sound of water crashing against tiles reverberated through the room, killing the silence.
After a few minutes, it stopped.
Silas stepped out with a white towel tightly wrapped around his waist.
He took out a set of clothes and wore them.
"We would talk tomorrow. I should just sleep for now," he said as he lay on the bed.
He covered himself with the duvet and soon drifted off.
Time passed, but Silas was sure it was not morning yet. He could have sworn he had only slept for an hour.
"So, why are you disturbing me?" He yelled at the person ringing the elevator bell.
"Master Silas, there seems to be a problem," Clara said through the door, her words slow.
"And you think it can’t wait till tomorrow?" He groaned.
"I fear not, sir. But if you don’t want to answer, I can relay your message to them."
"No, don’t worry," Silas said, swinging his legs down.
"This had better be worth my time," he mumbled as he entered the elevator.
