Chapter 249: What A Fight

The force of the gale that the Wyvern whipped up with its wings was strong enough to physically force me back multiple steps, and when I almost lost my footing it threatened to fling me into the air and back against a tree.

It was powerful, but the worst part about it was being pelted by all the various bits of debris on the ground that all happened to be rather deadly in their own right; the twigs were zipping through the air like arrows while jagged rocks and pebbles pelted the trunks around us, cracking against the bark and leaving little to the imagination in terms of power.

What was hitting us all though were the various leaves and needles on the ground, their thinness turning them into the perfect projectiles that sliced at whatever bits of flesh were exposed, and one had gotten dangerously close to my eye, leaving a thin cut right beside my eyebrow.

Even though it was doing something that was far more dangerous than what it had been doing earlier, the Wyvern eventually stopped flapping its wings and instead gathered another gout of flame between its jaws, swinging its head around as it searched for the right target.

All of the embers from before gradually died down as the abundance of oxygen faded, no longer allowing them to feast and grow larger to threaten both us and the forest; they were still there though, illuminating the area somewhat and creating small areas that were to be avoided since those flames were hungry.

Darting behind a trunk and gathering my breath, I tried to steady myself again only to realize that the amount of adrenaline pumping through my veins was insane, and thanks to that everything seemed far sharper to me.

The acrid tang of burning vegetation, the orange and yellow flickers of light illuminating the various shrubs and whatnot around me, the warmth of the air as it brushed against my face... everything was just heightened, but with those heightened senses came an overwhelming rush of energy that needed a direction.

My hands quivered incessantly around my bow, my breathing was shaky and the pounding of my heart inside of my chest refused to slow down no matter what I tried, and yet... this rush... it was so addicting...

This felt so good even though I knew that the situation I was in was rather horrible, but there wasn’t anything that I could do to stop myself from grinning as I peeked around the trunk to see the Wyvern attempting to bathe Kha’Miero in electrified flames.

Even as a slight bit of panic crept in as I saw her get wreathed in those crackling flames I still felt so... great, so alive, and that made it all the easier to lay another arrow on the string and pump it full of some volatile Fire Mana.

With hands as shaky as this I knew that accuracy wasn’t something I could rely on, so instead of hoping to somehow take down this big beast all on my own I instead opted for something more... supportive, which came in the form of a whistling arrow streaking straight for the Wyvern’s neck.

The moment that the arrow punched through those thick green scales all of the Fire Mana whirling around it was released, resulting in a thunderous bang that shook the foliage beside the Wyvern while the beast itself let out a pained roar as it stepped back.

Its neck had cracked slightly to the side from the force of that blow, forcing the flames to be moved away from Kha’Miero and giving the black scaled Draconian some precious seconds to rush away from her current spot and behind another tree.

The others were all quick to take advantage of this moment as well, with the reptilian Professor shooting an explosive bolt of her own at her previous spots to tear away more scales, revealing the wet flesh below. 𝓯𝙧𝙚𝒆𝙬𝙚𝒃𝙣𝙤𝒗𝓮𝓵.𝙘𝙤𝙢

Taji was the first to reach the Wyvern, her blades sinking deep into the now exposed flesh before they sparked to life, pumping quite a lot of volts into the beast and earning herself an enraged - and very pained - roar.

Yet before it could try and smack her with one of its wings Bo’Katari came from the side, swinging her blade and cracking a few of the scales off with just the sheer force of her strike; she jumped away immediately after, avoiding the retaliatory attack and creating another opening for Lu’Shaki to use.

The two Orcs worked in tandem to whale away at the one side of the Wyvern, while Kha’Miero rushed to the other side and began to attack the base of the wing, damaging the joint and attempting to prevent it from unleashing another gale.

During that time I launched another few heavy earthen arrows straight at the beast’s skull, trying my luck with some higher damage shots and managing to land most of them despite my current state, further fueling my ecstasy.

We weren’t even slowly chipping at the Wyvern’s health anymore; we were just tearing straight chunks out of it and overwhelming it with our numbers, securing ourselves a victory rather ’easily’ after we were surprised by its arrival.

When the green scaled menace finally was felled I could already feel the crash coming, my adrenaline not humming as much as it had been as soon as I realized that things were over with this fight.

Hearing it thud to the ground and let out a pathetic whimper before Bo’Katari plunged her blade into its neck was somewhat sad, but I dealt with that easily as I glanced at the embers around us as well as the charred bits of my armor that I was going to have to repair.

I had gotten far luckier than everyone else when it came to avoiding most of the attacks, so where I looked mildly burnt and mostly alright, everyone else... that was another story, especially for Kha’Miero.

Her scales being black meant we couldn’t really tell what part of her had been really burnt, but considering she was quick to uncork a vial of healing potion and drink the entire thing I imagine that earlier ’shower’ she got hadn’t been entirely avoided...
