Isn't It Love?
Chapter 42: Half Empty Glass
The sun had set, the glow of orange light already replaced by deepening indigo mixed with the artificial lights made by humans. It’s truly ashamed that all lamp block the nice view of the stars from afar, that once Ren adore to look.
The later it got, this city didn’t grow quiet—instead it was as if the city had just woken from its sleep. Neon lights decorated the sidewalks along the road Ren took to go home.
Looking left and right, everything looked the same no matter what happened. Across various timelines, nothing changed, they only created new branches.
Just like his life right now, which had experienced the same things several times until it made him completely bored. However, seeing how the one who was supposed to share a destiny with him rejected him, it seemed that in this timeline that girl would lean toward that ’foreign’ soul, the anomaly.
Everything is so different... if this keeps up, all routes must already be closed by Kai.
Ren sighed. As someone always called a ’destiny bringer’ and a ’complement’ to others, Ren’s heart was actually quite pleased.
Because for him, what’s the meaning of happiness built on someone else’s misfortune. Even though everything is of his own choosing, was he right? Or wrong?
After all, things always comes and goes around and around and around and around.
Ren laughed to himself. This place is everything, and it doesn’t matter if a goddess changes the plot to move in such a way that it all becomes this messy.
For Ren, it no longer mattered where he would ’go home’. Even if he had to part ways and stop being the sun, becoming the moon wasn’t as bad as he thought.
Night was a role he would enjoy from now on.
Ren kept walking past several housing complexes until he reached the house where he lived. "I’m home. Reva you there?"
No greeting like usual. That stupid woman must be in her room or maybe she was showering because he could hear humming from the bathroom.
Entering the house, Ren walked to the bathroom and opened it to find Reva in the bathtub with cucumbers on her eyes. Her body was covered in soap bubbles that did nothing to hide her curves.
Moving the cucumber from her eyes, Reva wasn’t surprised to see Ren slipping in and taking off his clothes to join her.
"So how was Ryan? Hmm? What score did you give him?"
Ren turned on the shower and let the water flow from above his head down. Reva certainly saw that and even whistled, even though it was a normal sight and meant nothing, Reva always commented on whatever Ren did.
Turning off the tap, Ren kicked Reva a little to make room for him to join her in the tub. The bathtub was a bit cramped because it was forced to fit two people, making a lot of soapy water spill out.
"Ahh! What are you doing, you idiot! That soap is worth two hours of my working day."
"Haa... not that important, besides, even if you stole it, no one would notice," Ren said, sounding apathetic. "You’re not even human... why try so hard to be human with the name ’Reva Rhoeas’?"
Reva leaned back after poking Ren’s chest with her big toe. "You haven’t answered my question... what score for Ryan."
"Maybe 9.1 out of 10."
"Wow, You really gave him a pretty high score. Why?"
"No particular reason." Ren leaned back too, his eyes staring toward Reva’s. "But I’ll just let it be for now... he’s still irrelevant."
Reva closed her eyes, enjoying the warm bubble bath. Same with Ren who enjoyed the peace in this house.
"You know... at first I wanted move his soul into your body." Reva opened her eyes and grinned at Ren. "You’re the one who said you didn’t want to play anymore... but yeah, I think I found a suitable role for him as ’Kai Clove’... and it seems you’re quite interested in playing again."
"I don’t really care either way... in the end I’ll be the one winning again."
"Hmm... too overconfident, that’s disgusting. Didn’t I ever tell you to learn jealousy?"
Ren stayed silent, not responding to any of Reva’s provocations. Because he was sure. Even if all paths were closed... in the end he would take everything.
If it weren’t for him, this world wouldn’t exist and Reva’s fun would end.
"Hmm, not answering, huh... you’re really, truly boring. I don’t know why I always have to be with you..."
"You’re neutral, right?" Ren asked.
"No... I lean toward you, even though deep down I’m rooting for Ryan, though. Are you jealous~"
"No, but I don’t like how you’re speeding up all the progress."
Reva laughed, leaned forward, traced Ren’s jaw. Her fingers plucked at his cheeks as she moved closer. Her chest touched Ren’s chest as she circled her arms around Ren’s neck.
Reva then buried her face into Ren’s neck. Her lips moved, kissing, leaving dark marks like mosquito bites on Ren’s neck.
"You know... if someone saw this, you’d go to jail for doing that to a minor."
"Hmm... want me to change into a teenage girl... or a little kid? You know the appearance I’m wearing now is Ryan’s favorite... he has a clear type, not like you..."
"I can’t say anything about that..."
"Ha... obviously... you’re such a boring guy. But I can’t wait... to see you cause havoc when school starts in few months I think... I’ll be looking forward to it... Ren."
A few more months, the new school year. Everything would change faster. Whether for better or worse. Everything is true in the name of love.
But for now, maybe enjoying summer before the fall is the most important thing. Let all those doors stay tightly shut for now, because when he opens them, Ren knows he’ll be the one to win this all love game again.
