Jilted by Day, Cuddled At Night
Chapter 564: I’m Not Old Right Now, Am I?
Su Wan had suffered from an arranged engagement when she was a child.
Not to mention, she actually never restricted her children or forced them to do anything, and to a great extent, she allowed them considerable freedom.
Therefore, even when some relatives and friends half-jokingly and half-seriously talked about arranging child betrothals for her children, they were all rejected by Su Wan.
The three children had never been arranged in any child betrothals from young to old.
Moreover, in the matter of marriage, Gu Jue and Su Wan would not interfere in their children’s lives, even though Xiaochen had already taken that position.
Gu Yan, "You and dad haven’t asked him to do anything, so what’s bothering him?"
Su Wan, "It’s not exactly bothersome, it’s more like he’s not in the best of spirits, after all, you can ignore them but their repeated remarks can still be quite annoying."
Gu Yan gave it some thought and realized that those people couldn’t be beaten up, and since they were just talking without taking any action, there was no way to deal with them except to listen.
It was indeed quite vexing.
She said, "Then I’ll go see big brother."
"Go ahead."
Su Wan had already talked with her son Gu Chen, and she knew that he had his own ideas. As for his current mood, he probably was just annoyed.
It would pass soon.
But the children had always been very close, and Su Wan was even happier to see their sibling bond grow stronger, so they would support each other in the future if anything happened.
Nowadays, Su Wan’s relationship with her two brothers had improved a bit from before, but that was as far as it went. Compared to that, Su Wan had a better relationship with Su Xiaoge, her brother with no blood relation.
The brother-sister bond that supports each other as they grow up, once missed, is missed forever.
Su Wan did not want the events that happened to her to recur with her children.
As for Xiaochen being pressured into marriage, she wasn’t worried at all; that kid had his own mind.
Gu Chen currently had no desire to marry. Gu Family men were devoted, and he would absolutely not accept any arranged marriage until he met the other half that truly moved his heart.
He, Gu Chen, also did not need an arranged marriage to solidify his throne.
After Gu Chen felt a bit irritated, he quickly calmed down. What he needed to do now was to take note of those aggressive old fellows in the council.
It appeared that again, someone had their own ulterior motives, merely wanting to use their daughters to seek more benefits.
Perhaps there were those who colluded with powers from other planets, hoping to send spies to his side?
Such cases could not be tolerated.
Gu Chen, who was busy dealing with this matter, was slightly startled by a knock on the door.
Gu Yan peeked in from the doorway, "Big brother, I’m not disturbing you, am I?"
Seeing it was his little sister, Gu Chen immediately shook his head, "Not at all, not at all, come in. Whenever you or mom need to see me, it’s never a disturbance."
As for dad, oh, little Gu Chen had always respected him at first. If dad came to him, it must be for serious matters.
As for his brother, well, that’s another story.
Xiaoyan came in, glanced around, and seeing that her brother was indeed busy with official business on the virtual screen, she breathed a sigh of relief, "I thought you might be in a bad mood, because of the marriage they’re forcing on you."
"They can’t force me into this, but I’m going to take this opportunity to find out what exactly those who are so enthusiastic about it are up to. Don’t worry, Xiaoyan, when I look for a sister-in-law for you, I’ll definitely find someone who gets along with you. And of course, Mom has to agree too."
If his future wife couldn’t get along well with his mother and sister, what was the point of marrying her?
It wasn’t that Gu Chen was particularly obedient to his mother and sister; rather, he believed that both his mother and sister had very good natures, so if his future wife couldn’t get along with them, then there must be a flaw in her character.
Gu Chen changed the subject, "Xiaoyan, how did you feel about the first day back at school today?"
"It’s been great, I even made new friends!"
Gu Yan repeated the story she had told her mother, and of course, she didn’t forget to tease her little brother. After talking for a while, the domestic robot came to call them for dinner, and they went downstairs.
The meal was prepared by Su Wan and her son Gu Yu and was very sumptuous; the family of five were all well fed.
During the meal, Su Wan looked at the children, noticing their relaxed expressions, and knew they had no worries on their minds, which made her also sigh with relief.
That night, after returning to their rooms, Su Wan talked to Gu Jue about the children’s day, "Little Gu Yu’s worries are nothing serious. If he doesn’t care, he can just wear a mask later on, uh, but then again, that would make him resemble you when you were younger."
The Commander’s dog ears on top of his head moved slightly, showing a bit of discontent, "Wanwan, I’m not old now, am I?"
Su Wan was about to say something when her lower leg got entangled with a furry tail, and her words were effectively silenced.
Her body then aptly demonstrated that he was still not old, even now.
For Gu Jue, who was two hundred years old, he wasn’t really considered old, especially since he was not even a hundred years old yet. But what could he do, being so much older than his young wife, even if just in a certain sense, made this man feel a profound sense of insecurity.
So, he kept on expressing his presence, over and over again.
Soon, the night deepened, and the Gu Family all fell into slumber, except Xiaoyan, who hadn’t fallen asleep yet. She had already sent the day’s events at school to Brother Little Mushroom, but he hadn’t replied at all.
"Could something have happened to Brother Little Mushroom?"
In fact, the Insect God hadn’t encountered any troubles; so far, no one capable of causing him trouble had appeared.
It was the Insect Nest that had encountered problems, so the Insect God had to return there. The nest was no longer the thriving sight that Gu Jue and Su Wan had once seen. An already poor planet had become even more pockmarked and barren.
Doris, standing nearby, also sighed lightly, "It seems that what thrives must eventually decline, a theory that applies not only to planets but to the Insect Nest as well."
Xi Le felt the same.
They finally understood why, over the past several years, the Insect God had been moving Insectoids and Insect Beasts from one universe to another.
They had been expanding the Insectoids’ planetary bases, occasionally engaging in localized wars, but those were not invasions; rather, they were conflicts with the Universe Alliance and Plantmen.
Of course, neither had the Combat Power to match up to the Insectoids, and eventually, the Insectoids emerged victorious every time.
The Insect God spoke softly, "Move all the remaining people today. From now on, there will be no need to come back here."
There were only a few people left. Doris immediately nodded in acknowledgment.
When the spatial transition occurred, the Insect God could sense that the old Insect Nest suddenly collapsed with a loud bang.
After he returned to the new Insectoid Base, his communication devices, like his neuro-computer, restored connection.
Only then did the Insect God see the message from Xiaoyan.
