Little Sorcerer, Divine Doctor
Chapter 1178 - 4: The Thief
After the conflict at the town entrance, Yun Sheng and Bo Bo entered the small town with much more ease. Perhaps because everyone knew that those entering the town were not ordinary people, none of the Half-Beast townspeople troubled Yun Sheng further.
Yun Sheng found a place to fill their stomachs with Bo Bo.
Though the Eight Desolates Continent differs somewhat from the Wuji Continent, in terms of food, the difference is not too vast, with no cases of raw meat or blood eating.
Yun Sheng also took the opportunity to inquire about the state of the Eight Desolates Continent.
Through this inquiry, Yun Sheng gained a rough understanding of the Eight Desolates Continent.
The Eight Desolates Continent did not originally bear its current name; it was only after the Eight Desolate Beast Clan invaded and occupied the entire continent that it was renamed as the Eight Desolates.
The continent is vast in territory, with an area about two to three times the size of the Wuji Continent. It is inhabited mainly by the Human Clan, mixed-blood Half-Beasts, and the Eight Desolate Beast Clan, among other races.
Amongst them, the Human Clan is the most numerous and is the native people of the continent. However, due to their lack of strength, their status is very low. Apart from a handful of free people, most of them are enslaved by either Half-Beasts or Beastmen, given a status even lower than Demon Beasts.
Free people of the Human Clan do not even have the right to live in the town; they can only reside in the outskirts, in areas called civilian caves.
The Half-Beasts are the second most populous, with a slightly higher status than the Human Clan. Most are free people, and some with the Eight Desolate Bloodline can hold certain official positions in the eight great tribes.
The Town Mayor of Moon-shaped Spring Town, for instance, is a Sky Fox Half-Beast who has served as mayor here for over ten years.
Among these races, it is the Eight Great Tribes and the Beast God Altar that hold the strongest power.
When the Eight Disolate Beast Clan invaded the Eight Desolates Continent back then, they divided the entire continent into nine major parts, with eight of them belonging to the Eight Desolates Tribe, known as the Eight Great Tribes.
Additionally, there’s one territory located in the very center of the Eight Desolates Continent, controlled by the Beast God Altar.
The Clan Leader of each tribe receives the first priest of the Beast God Altar as if they are the emperor of their respective domains.
The small town where Yun Sheng and Bo Bo are currently located is the northernmost territory of the Sky Fox Tribe, named Moon-shaped Spring Town. This small town has nothing but a Crescent Well as its resource, making it a typical poor town.
Most of the towns under the Sky Fox Tribe are similar to Moon-shaped Spring Town in condition.
This is because the Sky Fox Tribe has repeatedly lost in competitions over the centuries, causing their territory to shrink continuously.
Moreover, most of the land given to the Sky Fox Tribe is remote and barren desert or wasteland, with only a few towns being relatively wealthy and prosperous.
It takes about a month’s journey from Crescent Spring to the Hu capital, where the Sky Fox Tribe is located. However, entrance to Hu capital requires a special token, otherwise, it is not allowed.
Yun Sheng might be able to deceive those guards without much vision but has no certainty of sneaking past the Sky Fox Nobles.
She thought about it and decided not to rush to Hu capital, choosing to stay in Moon-shaped Spring Town for a few days to see if she could find other ways to enter Hu capital.
Yun Sheng also noticed that in recent days, there were always a few stealthy eyes watching her from the shadows.
She roughly guessed that these people must have been sent by the Sky Fox Half-Beast Town Mayor of this town.
But since she did not want to stir up trouble, she had no intention of tangling with those people and simply tended to her own matters.
For three consecutive days, Yun Sheng just wandered around the town idly, doing nothing.
As a result, Hu Yixue became all the more puzzled, becoming increasingly uncertain of Yun Sheng’s purpose in coming to the town.
About the third day, Yun Sheng felt she had almost gathered enough information and was preparing to leave Moon-shaped Spring Town when an incident disrupted her original plan.
Early in the morning, as usual, Yun Sheng wandered around the small town.
From behind, there came the rumble of carts and horses.
Several sturdy horses charged in from the town entrance, with carts full of various fresh medicinal herbs.
They were the herb carts of the Half-Beast Mayor’s clinic, dedicated to procuring herbs from outside the town.
Whether on the Eight Desolates Continent or the Wuji Continent, the status of a doctor is equally noble.
However, on the Eight Desolates Continent, Beast and Half-Beast doctors do not use Light Magic for treatment. They use a healing method called witchcraft.
As the cart and horses passed by Yun Sheng, a glint appeared in her eyes.
She saw a small hand clutching the shaft beneath the cart and horses.
"Dear master, someone is hiding under the cart," Bo Bo also sniffed out the Human Clan’s scent.
It seemed that since the town’s guards would not allow the Human Clan inside, someone had hidden under the herb cart to sneak in.
If this person were discovered by the town’s Half-Beasts, they would surely be beaten to a pulp.
"No need to meddle; it’s almost time for us to leave as well," Yun Sheng merely glanced before choosing not to intervene.
At this time, the herb cart stopped.
A Half-Beast dismounted and entered the clinic.
Underneath the cart, a young girl crawled out.
The girl seemed only six or seven years old, small in stature, clad in tattered clothes, with her hair tied into a messy braid, clearly from a poor family.
After getting off the herb cart, the little girl hunched over, gathering several herbs from the cart.
From her appearance, she was clearly there to steal the herbs.
Yun Sheng watched her select several herbs, and her steps that were about to leave stopped uncontrollably.
Just then, a Half-Beast doctor and several people from the clinic walked out.
They immediately saw the little girl stealing the herbs.
"Thief, someone come quickly and catch the thief who dared to hide under the cart and sneak into the town, catch her!"
The Half-Beast doctor instantly erupted in rage upon seeing this and, without a word, ordered the girl to be seized.
The young girl was clearly stealing for the first time, and upon discovery, she was utterly petrified.
Onlookers gathered around, punching and kicking the Human Clan girl.
"Doctor, I am not a thief; I just wanted to borrow some herbs to save my mother," the Human Clan girl protected her weak spots with both hands, continuously shouting, but she was merely a child who knew neither martial arts nor magic, hardly capable of withstanding the strength of these Half-Beasts.
The Human Clan, let alone stealing things, is not even allowed to enter the clinic or the small town.
The girl’s family had someone fall ill, preventing them from seeking medical help in town, so they could only take the risk of hiding under the cart to steal herbs.
"Stop hitting her; let this doctor have a look," the Half-Beast doctor from the clinic said spitefully, stepping forward to look at the girl.
Seeing her dressed in rags yet with delicate features, it was clear she would grow into a beautiful female slave.
"Hmm, looking not too bad, it would be a pity to beat her to death. Just throw her into the slave market, sell her for a few coins to repay the stolen herbs," the Half-Beast doctor said malevolently.
