Make France Great Again
Chapter 1017 - 1009: Heading to Turin
Jerome Bonaparte walked from the bedroom to the corridor under the guidance of a servant and arrived at the washroom, where the servant attentively helped him wash his face.
After drying his face and leaving the washroom, Jerome Bonaparte turned his head and asked the servant, "Where is your master now?"
"Your Majesty, my master has already gone to the bank to work!" the servant immediately replied to Jerome Bonaparte, "Before leaving, he specifically instructed me to take good care of you! If you need anything, I can go to the bank to fetch him!"
"Never mind!" Jerome Bonaparte shook his head and replied to the servant, then continued to ask, "By the way! Nie’er, where are they?"
"Your Majesty, Chief of Staff Nie’er left here an hour ago to head to the camp!" the servant responded once again.
"I see!" Jerome Bonaparte nodded to the servant in acknowledgment.
Then, the servant asked if Jerome Bonaparte would be willing to go to the dining room for breakfast.
Jerome Bonaparte nodded in agreement with the servant’s suggestion, and the servant led him to another dining room.
This dining room was nearly half the size of the one Jerome Bonaparte used for dinner the previous day and was furnished with a small round table that could only accommodate 4-5 people dining together, rather than a long rectangular table.
Moreover, the entire dining room was more simply decorated compared to the one from the previous evening.
"This should be where your master usually eats, right?" Jerome Bonaparte asked the servant.
"Your Majesty, you are correct!" the servant nodded and replied to Jerome Bonaparte, "This is where Master Wilson dines alone or entertains a small number of close guests!"
"Hmm!" Jerome Bonaparte responded simply, then asked the servant what was on the breakfast menu.
The servant immediately took five minutes to report the dish names to Jerome Bonaparte, who was slightly surprised at how plentiful Wilson’s meals were.
"Just bring me a simple soup, two or three pieces of bread, and a fried egg," Jerome Bonaparte instructed the servant.
The servant nodded and said to Jerome Bonaparte, "Your Majesty, please wait here for a moment, and I will head to the kitchen to have them prepare it for you right away!"
"Alright!" Jerome Bonaparte replied to the servant, then watched him leave the dining room.
After about half an hour, the dining room doors slowly opened, and the servant reappeared before Jerome Bonaparte, followed by other servants, each carrying a dining tray, making a total of five trays.
They then placed all the trays on the table and left.
The servant began introducing the dishes to Jerome Bonaparte, "Your Majesty, this is lobster soup, and this is caviar..."
After the servant finished introducing the five dishes, Jerome Bonaparte asked, "This meal must be quite expensive, right?"
"Your Majesty, compared to your noble status, this meal is not expensive at all!" the servant complimented Jerome Bonaparte.
Jerome Bonaparte smiled slightly, feeling quite comforted by the servant’s flattery, and praised, "You all have quite a way with words!"
"Your Majesty, these are truly our sincere words!" the servant earnestly replied to Jerome Bonaparte.
Jerome Bonaparte chuckled, then shook his head and said, "I should finish eating soon and then leave!"
Upon hearing that Jerome Bonaparte planned to leave after breakfast, the servant’s expression changed dramatically. He asked Jerome Bonaparte in a trembling voice, "Your Majesty, did I do something wrong?"
Jerome Bonaparte was taken aback for a moment, then shook his head and said to the servant, "No, you did very well!"
"Then why are you leaving so soon?" the servant asked, "Master specifically instructed me to serve you well!"
"You’ve misunderstood!" Jerome Bonaparte gestured with his hand in explanation, "I’m not leaving because of that; I need to head to the Turin Royal Palace promptly!
Victor Emmanuel II is still waiting for my arrival in Turin, so I cannot afford to delay here for long!"
"Understood!" the servant replied, with a trace of anxiety in his voice, "Your Majesty, please allow me to leave your side briefly!"
"Go ahead!" Jerome Bonaparte said while lightly stirring the soup with a spoon and responded casually.
He knew that the servant would certainly report his departure to his master, Wilson, at the bank, and since Jerome Bonaparte had no intention of concealing it from Wilson, he allowed the servant to leave.
The servant breathed a sigh of relief, bowed to Jerome Bonaparte, and left the dining room. A while later, another servant entered the room, saying he was instructed by the previous servant to attend to Jerome Bonaparte.
Jerome Bonaparte merely nodded and scooped up a spoonful of soup into his mouth, then took some bread, spread caviar on it, and took a bite...
When Jerome Bonaparte finished breakfast, about 20 minutes had passed. He stood up and said to the servant beside him, "Alright! I’m full!"
The attendant beside Jerome Bonaparte advised him, "Your Majesty, would you like to eat a bit more?"
"I can’t eat anymore!"
Jerome Bonaparte slowly left the dining room and then strolled into the hall.
At that moment, Wilson appeared at the doorway, drenched in sweat, followed by the departing attendant.
"Wilson, you’ve returned!" Looking at Wilson panting in the distance, Jerome Bonaparte said blandly.
"Your Majesty, I... huff... made you wait!" Wilson responded to Jerome Bonaparte while gasping for air.
Jerome Bonaparte shook his head and replied to Wilson, "Actually, there was no need for you to come over!"
"Your Majesty, you are my most esteemed guest!" Wilson resolutely answered Jerome Bonaparte, "Since you chose to leave, I must send you off!"
"Alright then!" Jerome Bonaparte shrugged his shoulders, and Wilson promptly commanded his attendants to bring over the most magnificent carriage from his residence.
The attendant quickly sprang into action, and after a while, returned to Wilson saying, "Master, I’ve prepared the carriage you asked for!"
Wilson turned his gaze to Jerome Bonaparte and said flatteringly, "Your Majesty, the carriage is ready! Please come with me!"
Jerome Bonaparte left the palace with Wilson, and then saw the carriage and the Empire Guard Cavalry surrounding it in the small square in front of the palace.
Several Guard Cavalry members, upon seeing Jerome Bonaparte, quickly saluted on horseback, and Jerome Bonaparte also nodded solemnly to them. Wilson attentively opened the carriage door for Jerome Bonaparte, who then entered the carriage, and Wilson closed the door again.
"Let’s depart!" Jerome Bonaparte inside the carriage ordered the coachman.
The coachman hurriedly inquired, "Your Majesty, where are you headed?"
"To the French Camp, you should know where that is!" Jerome Bonaparte replied to the coachman.
"Your Majesty, leave it to me!" The coachman responded cheerfully.
Under the skilled technique of the coachman, the carriage underwent a brief acceleration and then quickly headed towards the French Camp, escorted by the Empire Guard Cavalry.
Since the camp is located in the southwest of Chambéry city and Wilson’s residence is in the north, it took a long time to reach the vicinity of the camp.
Later, Jerome Bonaparte commanded the coachman to stop about 100 meters from the camp.
The coachman slowly stopped, and the cavalry accompanying Jerome Bonaparte also slowed down and stopped.
Once the carriage had completely stopped, Jerome Bonaparte got off the carriage, "This is as far as I’ll be sent!"
"But Mr. Wilson instructed me to ensure you arrive safely at the camp!" The coachman responded to Jerome Bonaparte.
"We are not too far from the camp here!" Jerome Bonaparte pointed to the camp in the distance in response to the coachman.
The coachman could only obey Jerome Bonaparte’s order and leave, while Jerome Bonaparte walked into the camp.
After entering the camp and looking at the tents scattered like stars, he quickly pulled over an officer to inquire about the location of the command headquarters.
"Your Majesty, please follow me!" Led by the officer, Jerome Bonaparte arrived at the location of the largest tent in the camp, the command headquarters.
After entering the command headquarters, Nie’er and Trocch appeared before Jerome Bonaparte and said in unison, "Your Majesty!"
"Hmm!" Jerome Bonaparte nodded and stood with his hands behind him, "Nie’er... would you be willing to come with me to Turin!"
"Of course!" Nie’er decisively replied to Jerome Bonaparte.
"Then let’s go!" Jerome Bonaparte responded to Nie’er.
"Your Majesty, what should become of the command headquarters?" Trocch hurriedly asked Jerome Bonaparte.
"Trocch, you and the headquarters, General Staff should remain here and wait for a while! Just be ready to receive my orders at any time!" Jerome Bonaparte first said blandly, then solemnly instructed, "Also, make sure those soldiers under you all keep their pants zipped up, don’t let people here become hostile towards us!"
"Your Majesty, rest assured! I will strictly enforce discipline!" Trocch naturally understood how poor the military discipline of the Italian Army could be (left unchecked) and quickly assured Jerome Bonaparte.
"That’s all I have to say, you handle the rest yourself!"
