The Seven Realms Sacred Mansion’s square was filled to the brim, be it the seats below or the sky above it. Juniors and elders alike had worried looks on their faces.

“Young master Ling Xiao, when did you return?” a sweet voice echoed.

Those words drew countless gazes and caused a stir.

The Seven Realms Sacred Mansion followed a strict hierarchy. Only those of a higher stature were permitted to take a seat in the square. They were either nobles, powerful experts, or had strong backing.

And Ling Xiao was the most famous prodigy of the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion before Jie Tian’s rise to prominence. He had once fought alongside Chu Feng in the Nine Heavens’ Zenith, and the two of them carried admiration for each other.

“I just returned,” Ling Xiao replied politely, but he was feeling troubled.

“Ling Xiao, I heard you have reached rank five True Dragon World Spiritist?” an elder asked with a smile. He addressed Ling Xiao politely despite being a highly-respected elder.

“Yes, elder. I have recently made a breakthrough,” Ling Xiao replied.

“I’d expect no less from our Seven Realms Sacred Mansion’s renowned prodigy.”

The crowd was awed. Despite having heard rumors about his breakthrough, it still astonished them to hear him speak it aloud.

“I wouldn’t have been able to grow so fast if not for the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion’s resources,” Ling Xiao replied humbly.

“You can’t say that. The Sacred Mansion does have ample resources, but we can’t discount your talent. You’re the most talented prodigy among us aside from young master Jie Tian,” the elder said.

The crowd voiced their agreement.

“I dare not take on that title. Even Jie Baobao’s spirit power has surpassed me,” Ling Xiao said.

“Jie Baobao? Has she reached rank six True Dragon World Spiritist? Did she recently emerge from her closed-door training?”

The crowd was taken aback. Jie Baobao had been known to be a prodigy on par with Ling Xiao, but no one expected her to surpass Ling Xiao.

“She emerged from her closed-door training shortly before I returned,” Ling Xiao said.

The crowd was overjoyed.

Having such prodigies in their ranks was good news for the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion.

While the crowd was conversing, Jie Tianran had already arrived at the square, just that he had decided against revealing himself. He entered a hidden floating palace and watched the crowd from there.

Even though Jie Nianqing was bound, Jie Tianran still settled her down in a chair.

“The show is about to begin, Nianqing,” Jie Tianran said.

His palm emanated a brilliant glow before a person toppled out from within.

“Jie Tianran, why did you capture her?” Jie Nianqing asked nervously.

The person who had dropped out from Jie Tianran’s palm was none other than Shuang Xue, one of Jie Nianqing’s aides. She had tasked Shuang Xue to protect Chu Feng, and Shuang Xue did reach out to Chu Feng, but Chu Feng rejected her protection.

Jie Nianqing had tried contacting Shuang Xue after emerging from her closed-door training, but she was unable to reach the latter. The same went for many of her old aides as well.

But the reason was apparent to her now. Jie Tianran must have picked her aides off.

“Why did I capture her? She, despite being a member of the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion, sided with a fugitive and secretly aided Chu Feng. Isn’t that more than enough reason for me to apprehend her? There are many more guilty of that crime as well, but I have already executed them,” Jie Tianran said.

“I was the one who issued the order. It has nothing to do with them. Release them!” Jie Nianqing shouted.

“I know that they are working for you, Nianqing, and that Shuang Xue is your aide. It’s on your account that she’s still unharmed now. I did consider sparing her, but you refused to listen to my advice and insisted on fighting me. She could have lived, but Nianqing, you doomed her.

“Don’t bother pleading for her mercy. Your time is better spent on saying farewell to her,” Jie Tianran said.

“Jie Tianran, come at me instead. Let her go!” Jie Nianqing became increasingly agitated, knowing that Jie Tianran wouldn’t hesitate to kill Shuang Xue.

Shuang Xue was not bound, but she made no attempt to escape. Instead, she walked up to Jie Nianqing and kneeled to her. “Lord Nianqing, I was useless. I couldn’t protect young master Chu Feng.”

“Don’t say that, Shuang Xue... Isn’t it the same for me as well?”

Jie Nianqing looked at Shuang Xue with melancholic eyes. She didn’t blame Shuang Xue; even she had stumbled upon Jie Tianran, after all.

Shuang Xue lost control of her emotions and cried.

“It’s about time.” Jie Tianran grabbed Shuang Xue.

“Lord Nianqing, I’m willing to continue serving you if there is an afterworld,” Shuang Xue’s voice echoed in the palace, but she had already been dragged down to the square.

She was forced to kneel at the center of the square as a sinner.

“Lord Shuang Xue?”

The crowd was taken aback, knowing that Shuang Xue was Jie Nianqing’s aide.

“I have called you here today to judge two traitors,” Jie Tianran declared. He proceeded to list Shuang Xue’s crime of secretly protecting Chu Feng.

No one dared to utter a word, considering Shuang Xue’s high stature.

“The punishment for traitors is death. Does anyone object to it?” Jie Tianran shouted.

Only then did the crowd realize what Jie Tianran was up to. They immediately roared in agreement to his verdict.

“Those who betray the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion deserve death, and this is especially true for those who have received the Seven Realms Sacred Mansion’s grace but still chose to turn their back on us. How should we punish Shuang Xue?”

“Strip her of her cultivation!”

“Grind her bones into powder!”

“Skin her alive and rip out her tendons!”

“We should gouge out her heart to see if it is black!”

“Throw her into a pill cauldron and burn her into ashes!”

All kinds of vicious suggestions and insulting curses were hurled at Shuang Xue.
