Chapter 2252: Chapter 2228: Props

Gao Yang arrived in Germany and met with Eileen and Yake. He needed to meet a military enthusiast group that was highly likely to attend the commemorative ceremony, but before meeting them, Gao Yang had to wait for some items.

Besides guns, there was one very, very important prop: clothing.

In a war reenactment, the guns must be historically accurate, and of course, the clothing must also match the historical reality. This is a reenactment of the Normandy landing, and if the participants were to wear British tropical standard uniforms, it would be a joke.

The clothing, especially items like armbands, must also be historically authentic and fit the circumstances of the time.

The Normandy landing was a large-scale battle, with an extensive frontline. Sword Beach was primarily managed by the British 3rd Infantry Division and the 27th Armoured Brigade, so the British must at least wear appropriate attire, adorned with the armbands of the 3rd Infantry Division or the 27th Armoured Brigade, to look the part.

As for the German Army, the clothing issue is easier to solve, but the armbands are a bit tricky. The defense during the Battle of Sword Beach primarily involved the 21st Panzer Division, but the 21st Panzer Division engaged in combat after the British completed their landing, at a slightly rearward position. The actual combat on the beach involved a lightly equipped infantry unit, which proved to be ineffective.

After studying the history for some time, Gao Yang decided to get himself a set of infantry division gear. The reason is that the 21st Panzer Division is an armored unit, and it would be illogical for him, a lightly equipped infantry sniper on the beachhead, to wear armored troops’ clothing. Even though the 711th Infantry Division was stationed somewhat behind, their position was adjacent to Caen and Sword Beach, so wearing an armband from a unit under the 711th Infantry Division would be suitable.

These details require meticulous effort and should not be taken lightly, as military enthusiasts form a very meticulous and extravagant community. Gao Yang had to painstakingly blend in, but if he messed up the uniforms and armbands, it would be easy to be looked down upon, and he wouldn’t be included in their activities.

Gao Yang was not a German Army fan; he neither had World War II German uniforms nor armbands, so once he decided to get a German Army outfit, he had to quickly find one.

Because of the disgraceful history of the German Army during World War II, their uniforms are quite hard to find, especially in Germany, where selling anything more Nazi-related is illegal. Such items as clothing and armbands can only be used in film production. Even acquiring them from collectors is unlikely.

When a strong influence is present worldwide and possesses abundant wealth, Gao Yang’s will can easily become a reality. As long as the money is in place, and someone is seeking these items crazily and at an unreasonably high price, if they indeed exist, no matter how rare, they can be found quickly.

Ultimately, a complete set of clothing was purchased at a high price from a German film prop company. Additionally, items like mess kits, canteens, Y-shaped load-bearing suspenders, gas masks, ammo pouches, and more were all included, and they were all original pieces.

The full set of authentic armbands and badges was found in the United Kingdom and wasn’t cheap, as the 711th Division became gradually third-rate after the onset of World War II, leaving behind very few items, making it difficult to find a complete set.

When Gao Yang received all the items and immediately tidied them up meticulously, he and Eileen drove to Berlin. They were going to meet a leader of a military enthusiast group there to have a discussion.

Eileen dressed very seductively. She rarely showed her feminine side, but now, with a wig and a dress, she did have a bit of feminine charm—provided she didn’t use foul language or wave her fists around.

"Germans are very xenophobic. They are courteous on the surface, but their coldness and distrust are ingrained. They are anti-American, anti-Jewish, anti-Huaxia, anti-Europe, and even anti-themselves, though they disguise it well."

Eileen smiled at Gao Yang, blinked, and said with a laugh, "So the Germans aren’t targeting any specific country or race. They resent everyone in the world, including their compatriots; they just don’t show it."

Gao Yang nodded and said, "You mean my Oriental face might cause some issues, right?"

Eileen sighed slightly, with a hint of helplessness, and said, "If I went to Huaxia and participated in your World War II reenactments, do you think I’d be welcomed? This kind of thing doesn’t care about nationality or region, does it?"

Gao Yang shook his head and said, "You’re wrong. If you went to participate in Huaxia’s World War II reenactments, you’d be extremely welcome."

Eileen frowned and said, "That’s impossible; no one would welcome a strange foreigner playing as their ally. Playing as an enemy is more likely."

Gao Yang shrugged and said, "As long as you’re a woman, you’d definitely be welcome. In fact, women are so rare in the military enthusiast community that they’d treasure you as a gem."

Eileen smiled happily and said, "Are you saying that I’m very charming?"

Gao Yang chuckled, waved his hand, and said, "As long as you’re female, you’d be welcome. Even if you’re ugly, you’d be welcome. But if a beauty like you were to go, they’d go mad."

Gao Yang was secretly grateful. Fortunately, he was clever and turned the conversation around before Eileen lost her temper and realized he had said something foolish. The outcome would have been uncertain.

It was just as well that Gao Yang noticed early. Eileen’s face shifted from sunny to overcast and then to cloudy. She glared disapprovingly at Gao Yang, snorted, and said, "You’re smart."

Gao Yang uneasily twisted his body and asked, "How did your contact go?"

Eileen waved her hand, helplessly saying, "Getting those fools to accept an Oriental person is tough, but our conditions should persuade them."

Gao Yang rubbed his forehead wearily and said, "With my disguised identity, it shouldn’t be too much of a problem. If it still doesn’t work, we’ll have to let Number Thirteen or Yake intervene. If inducement fails, we’ll resort to coercion. There are always means to make them comply."

Eileen sighed and said softly, "Stubborn and arrogant Germans! Damn them!"

Gao Yang shook his head and said, "If we let Number Thirteen intervene, the consequences will be severe, and exposure is inevitable. So, Number Thirteen might have to kill them to silence them, which I dislike. I truly hope they’ll be sensible."

Eileen said softly, "If we can’t reach an agreement, we’ll find another way. I absolutely oppose using coercive measures; it’s too dangerous and poses a high risk of exposure for you. Trust me; I’ll find a way to make them accept you."
