Chapter 2258: Chapter 2234: Relay Guidance

Gao Yang was positioned side-back towards the spectators, meaning he couldn’t see Mario unless he left his current position to go to the back door of the fortress, lift his binoculars, find the location of the Italian delegation, and then pinpoint Mario from the crowd.

Gao Yang couldn’t directly search for Mario, so he needed someone to guide him to the target, and the only person who could do that was Tarta, because he could only see Tarta.

Tarta appeared quickly, mingled among a group of British Army, wearing a beret instead of the standard British helm, but what instantly distinguished him was not Tarta himself, but Jansen beside him.

Jansen was clothed in a Scottish tweed kilt, holding a bagpipe, standing alongside Tarta. As they landed with the first wave of infantry, Gao Yang immediately located their position.

Tarta managed to blend into the British Army thanks to Jansen, for Jansen was a bagpiper.

During a charge, leading the way in front to boost morale was a British tradition. After World War II, the position of bagpiper disappeared from the army, but doing so added a swagger.

So Gao Yang was definitely focused on Jansen.

Jansen’s bagpipe had a long chanter, adorned with a flag of the United Kingdom, which was what Gao Yang was intently watching.

In the reenactment of World War II battles, radios weren’t an option, and the distance was somewhat far, so even if Tarta communicated some signals to Gao Yang using hand gestures, Gao Yang might not see them. But Gao Yang could clearly see a small flag, even through binoculars or with the naked eye.

Tarta was holding binoculars, observing the state of the fortress, and of course, focusing more on the conditions among the spectators.

In the spectator area, likewise, there were many people holding small national flags.

Yarebin, Cui Bo, Phoenix, and Vasily were among them.

Jansen played the bagpipe as he paced forward, while Tarta used his genuine London accent to command the troops’ advance, occasionally raising his binoculars to inspect.

Jansen’s flag hadn’t moved, causing Gao Yang some anxiety because it implied that Mario hadn’t been found.

The task of discovering Mario was assigned to several individuals blending into the crowd.

Yarebin and the others strained to get close to the Italians’ position. Since the show started, they had been searching for Mario until finally, Vasily raised and started waving the four small national flags he held.

England, France, Canada, America, Vasily lifted two small flags in each hand and began to wave them, indicating he had pinpointed Mario within the Italian delegation of dozens.

Mario was seated on the tiered stands, laughing and chatting with people nearby, while Vasily and Yarebin were in the regular spectator area, approximately a hundred meters away from Mario, and they were the closest.

Seeing Vasily start to wave four national flags, Tarta shouted loudly, "Warriors, advance!"

Upon hearing Tarta’s shout, Jansen paused for a moment, then began to sway his bagpipe, though the music continued without interruption, the flag on his bagpipe began swinging rhythmically. The swaying wasn’t large, but it was enough to convey signals.

Seeing Jansen’s flag sway, Gao Yang exhaled lightly, casually yelled twice, and continued focusing on Jansen.

Jansen and Tarta were positioned more at the front, making Gao Yang’s view even clearer, but at this point, only the basic information had been transmitted.

Gao Yang kept a close eye on Jansen, while Tarta continued using binoculars to survey the spectators. He knew Vasily had discovered Mario, but not Mario’s exact location yet.

Vasily raised a French flag with his right hand, a United Kingdom flag with his left, and then slowly waved his left hand three small times, followed by a large swing, then Vasily picked up a Canadian flag with his right hand and waved it forward twice.

Tarta immediately discerned Mario’s approximate location, 130 meters right of Vasily, and 20 meters forward.

Quickly shifting the binoculars, Tarta soon identified Mario.

After triple-checking, confirming the person matched Mario in the photos perfectly, Tarta glanced at Gao Yang’s position, knowing Gao Yang should be at that shooting hole.

"Position! Fifty-two minutes, distance, four hundred and thirty meters."

With the direction the fortress door faced as the twelve o’clock baseline, Gao Yang was positioned back-to, equating him to being at the clock’s central axis, facing the six o’clock direction, while Mario’s position was approximately ten o’clock on the baseline direction.

Using clock directions is typically sufficient, but Gao Yang required precision now, yet Tarta possessed an exceptionally precise ability to estimate directions, allowing him to use minute positions for guidance.

Jansen’s flag moved, requiring precise expressions; some complex flag or hand signaling needed two people in cooperation, so Tarta gestured with his arm, indicating to Gao Yang they were guiding both position and distance.

Gao Yang had a map in mind and understood Mario’s position immediately without much contemplation.

Blending with the crowd but at the edge, Phoenix raised her flag without waving it but observed its movement caused by the wind, then after a moment, raised another flag, waving it like a regular spectator.

Most spectators didn’t have flags, yet those with flags were many. However, to prevent Tarta from being unable to distinguish amid the flag crowd, Phoenix, Vasily, and the others carried distinctive markers. Nevertheless, the current situation rendered marker distinction unnecessary, as Tarta easily differentiated them.

"Wind speed less than 0.5 meters per second."

Jansen immediately halted his steps, rhythmically adjusted his body slightly, and waved his flag.

Gao Yang silently noted the data transmitted by Jansen.

Weather was good, wind speed below one meter per second, virtually no impact.

Basic data was available, getting close to firing, yet Gao Yang couldn’t shoot just yet.

To ensure a hit with one shot, to slightly improve accuracy, Gao Yang needed a reference point to swiftly discern Mario among the crowd through the scope on his rifle.

Considering a fourfold magnification scope at over four hundred meters is definitely insufficient to see a face clearly unless Gao Yang used binoculars to precisely observe and identify, or someone offered him a hint.

Cui Bo kept watching through binoculars; given the distance, many in the crowd were utilizing binoculars as well, and Cui Bo continuously focused on Tarta and Jansen.

Tarta whispered to Jansen, "Get the reference point ready!"

Cui Bo’s binoculars had no limitations; he could use an old-style lens, and certainly a latest high-magnification binocular.

Upon seeing Jansen provide Gao Yang with the flag signal indicating the imminent readiness of the reference point, along with Tarta’s directives for reference placement, Cui Bo immediately rose.
