Chapter 1118: Immortality
Anthony could be seen sleeping like a baby, his chest rising and falling steadily as he lay covered underneath a red duvet, his breathing calm and rhythmic as though the world itself had momentarily lost all meaning to him in this fleeting state of rest, a few moments later, his eyes fluttered open slowly, his mouth opening as he yawned as though he were just a normal person, and not some abnormally strong Human with the ability to fell Planets and Constellations with inconceivable ease if he so wished.
After a bit of stretching, his limbs extending outward as though testing the limits of his own body, he sat upright on his bed, his sky-blue eyes shifting lazily to the side, but the moment his eyes landed in that direction, his expression remained unchanged as he found a man standing calmly as though waiting patiently for him to wake up without the slightest trace of impatience. The man stood in a sharp butler uniform, refined and immaculate, with a white towel layered neatly over one arm in a professional manner.
It was the Null family butler, Patrick.
"Uncle Patrick, what are you doing here?" Anthony asked, surprised at the man’s presence despite maintaining a composed demeanor. It wasn’t that Anthony hadn’t sensed the man, he had, his perception far surpassing ordinary limits, but his senses had never bothered to wake him up at the butler’s presence since he trusted the man completely.
If it had been some sort of assassin or any hostile entity, before they could even step foot within the Null family Estate, Anthony would have already been awake and calmly awaiting their arrival with a steady and unreadable gaze.
"Good morning, Young Master, I hope you had a good rest," Butler Patrick asked as he bowed, his movements precise and filled with habitual refinement.
Anthony stayed silent for a moment before he replied, "Indeed, it seems no matter how strong one becomes, at the end of the day, they cannot defeat sleep," he spoke as he swung his foot to the side of the bed, his tone thoughtful and composed.
Of course, sleep hadn’t claimed him, but rather he had surrendered to it willingly, yet the fact that sleep could still affect them even at this level spoke of how mysterious the phenomenon truly was, something that could not be easily understood despite their overwhelming strength.
’I wonder if the Dream Realm is an actual place that can be visited,’ Anthony fell into his thoughts, his mind drifting toward abstract curiosity, ’should I visit it?’ after a moment of contemplation, he shook his head lightly, dismissing the thought for now. His thoughts then shifted back to the butler standing before him.
"What are you doing here, Uncle Patrick, how did you even know I was here?" Anthony asked, as he had suppressed his presence almost entirely.
"Nothing, Young Master. Besides, I didn’t know you were here, I simply clean each room each morning without missing a day, so I simply found you here when I entered, and I decided to wait until you woke up as I was sure you would vanish before I could return again," Butler Patrick replied calmly.
Anthony nodded his head, then got off the bed as he started making his way to the bathroom without further words.
"Care for breakfast, Young Master?" Butler Patrick asked in a respectful tone.
"I do actually," Anthony answered, as throughout his time with Bryan and the rest, they hadn’t eaten anything, they had all forgotten about it as they could go that long without nutrition, relying solely on mana to sustain themselves.
Butler Patrick bowed and left to prepare the food, readying to serve it when Anthony was done with his bath.
Within a few minutes, Anthony was out of the bathroom, with a towel around his waist, he admired himself in the mirror briefly before choosing to put on clothes. Butler Patrick immediately served the food the next moment as though he could tell when Anthony was finally dressed, his timing impeccable.
"So, why are you here, Uncle Patrick?" Anthony asked, "don’t you have anywhere else to be, like friends, family, near my parents and all that," his question genuine, as the man seemed to spend all year round within the Null Estate.
"I don’t have friends, Young Master, as for my family, they all died of old age," Butler Patrick replied, his tone calm, and from the nature of his voice, one could tell that the death of all his family members wasn’t something recent but something that had likely occurred centuries ago, if not more.
"I’m sorry to hear that," Anthony spoke, his eyes shifting from his plate to Butler Patrick with a faint hint of empathy.
"No need to be sorry, Young Master," Butler Patrick replied, a small smile appearing across his lips as though he was reassuring Anthony that he was truly fine.
Anthony’s thoughts couldn’t help but wander toward his own parents, his grandparents, would he ever come to find himself in Uncle Patrick’s shoes, standing alone after outliving everyone he once knew, would there be any meaning to existence then? All these questions swirled within Anthony’s mind, but he showed none of it on the surface, he simply ate calmly as Butler Patrick stood at the side attentively.
Anthony couldn’t help but open his OP System Shop to check the price of Immortality, as that was the easiest solution, yet Anthony felt as though his heart was about to explode outward with the price he was seeing. There were different types of Immortality, and each one bore its own ridiculous price tag.
’What if I use the Authority Of Severance to sever the concept of aging,’ Anthony thought to himself, but at the same time, he knew his control hadn’t gotten to the level where he could sever a concept on that scale so easily, a concept that was deeply linked to Life and Death themselves.
But at the end of the day, it didn’t matter, he would increase his mastery over the Authority Of Severance or, when rich enough, buy all types of Immortality at once, giving each package deal to each parent and grandparent without hesitation.
But a thought couldn’t help but occur to Anthony; what if they rejected Immortality? Of course, he couldn’t fully say if they would accept it or not, but what if they chose otherwise?
’I should stop worrying about the future, it’s not as though I can grant them immortality today or tomorrow,’ Anthony mused to himself as he shook his head lightly.
