Monstrous Allure: Reborn as the Abyss Empress
Chapter 6 — ABYSSAL METAMORPHOSIS
The Guardian's roar shook the ancient prison.
Stone rained from the ceiling.
Its massive axe carved another scar through the chamber floor as Vespera twisted away at the last possible moment.
Too slow.
Too strong.
She couldn't win.
Not yet.
"Lirael!"
The elf was already studying the glowing chains surrounding her prison.
"They aren't just sealing me," she shouted. "They're connected to the Guardian!"
Vespera blinked.
"What?"
"The Guardian isn't protecting the prison..."
Another chain flashed with blue light.
"...it's being powered by it!"
Understanding struck instantly.
The Guardian wasn't the prison's master.
It was its jailer.
And Lirael's prison was feeding it.
The monster charged again.
Vespera slid beneath its sweeping axe.
Instead of attacking the Guardian...
She struck the nearest glowing chain.
Clang!
The chain trembled but held.
The Guardian stumbled.
Only for an instant.
But it stumbled.
"Lirael!"
"It worked!"
"Again!"
The Guardian recovered with an enraged roar.
Black mist exploded from its armor.
Vespera felt her scales burn where the darkness touched them.
Corrosion.
She retreated, searching desperately for another opening.
The Guardian raised its axe overhead.
The entire chamber seemed to freeze.
Then—
Lirael threw her broken sword.
The shattered blade spun through the air and struck the Guardian's helmet.
It barely dealt any damage.
But it made the creature look away.
That was enough.
Vespera surged forward.
Her tail coiled around another glowing chain.
With a scream born of instinct and determination, she pulled with every ounce of strength she possessed.
Crack.
The rune-covered chain snapped.
The chamber erupted with light.
The Guardian staggered.
One crimson eye flickered.
Its movements became noticeably slower.
"It's weakening!" Lirael cried.
"Three more!"
Vespera nodded.
One by one, they worked together.
Lirael distracted the Guardian whenever she could, throwing broken stones, shouting warnings, reading the monster's movements.
Vespera became the blade.
Each shattered chain drained more of her Essence.
Each strike brought her closer to collapse.
Finally—
The fourth chain broke.
A shockwave blasted through the prison.
The Guardian froze.
Cracks spread across its armor.
The crimson glow inside its helmet dimmed.
"No..."
Its voice no longer sounded like rage.
It sounded...
Afraid.
"The prison..."
"...must remain sealed..."
The floor beneath the Guardian collapsed.
Ancient mechanisms hidden beneath the chamber activated for the first time in centuries.
Massive stone pillars rose from below.
Runes wrapped around the Guardian's limbs.
The prison reclaimed its own warden.
The creature struggled.
Roared.
Then the pillars dragged it into the darkness beneath the temple.
Its screams echoed for several long seconds.
Then...
Silence.
Only the sound of falling dust remained.
Vespera collapsed onto one knee.
Her body trembled violently.
The System appeared.

Vespera stared at the choices.
Power...
Or possibility.
She smiled.
"There are monsters stronger than venom."
Her finger touched the second option.
"I choose..."
"Abyssal Metamorphosis."
Darkness swallowed her.
The transformation was unlike death.
It was rebirth all over again.
Her massive serpentine tail dissolved into black mist.
Scales melted into smooth skin.
Her claws shortened.
Bones shifted.
Muscles rearranged.
The pain lasted only seconds.
Then...
Silence.
She opened her eyes.
Two human feet stood upon the ancient stone.
She raised trembling hands before her face.
Five fingers.
Smooth skin.
A heartbeat.
She touched her own cheek.
Warm.
Soft.
Human.
Almost.
Long midnight-black hair fell over her shoulders.
Golden eyes reflected in a broken piece of polished metal nearby.
Small obsidian horns curved discreetly through her hair.
She looked...
Beautiful.
Unnaturally so.
Not Priya.
Not Vespera's monster form.
Something between them.
Something entirely new.
Lirael simply stared.
"I..."
The elf struggled to find words.
"You were a naga."
"I still am."
Vespera smiled gently.
"I just have another form now."
She took one uncertain step.
Then another.
Walking on two legs again felt strangely unfamiliar.
Like remembering a forgotten dream.
Lirael laughed softly.
"You're walking like a newborn deer."
Vespera sighed.
"I suppose I am."
For the first time since awakening in the dungeon...
She felt a small piece of Priya return.
Not enough to erase the monster she had become.
But enough to remind her who she had once been.
The System chimed one final time.

Vespera read the notification.
"...That sounds troublesome."
Lirael tilted her head.
"What does?"
Vespera smiled.
"I'll explain later."
Neither of them noticed the final rune hidden beneath the prison floor.
It flickered once.
Far below the dungeon...
Something ancient opened its eyes.
It had felt the birth of an Abyss Empress.
