Chapter 194

Don Morgan’s Point of View

I was sitting in my plush leather chair, sipping some wine slowly while racking my brain to figure out where Robert might have hidden "The Snake." I must find his weakness quickly, and when I do, I will crush him entirely and make him regret challenging the Don.

The provocative words of Thomas flashed back in my mind. I gripped the glass in my hand so hard my knuckles turned white, the glass nearly shattering under the intensity of my hold. That bastard! Bragging that Violet chose him. Damn him, and damn Violet! I never expected to love her this way, with such madness.

Despite all these long years, my cursed heart still beats for her alone, notwithstanding everything she did to me.

My memory drifted back to that day, when I went to her house the day after we rescued her. I waited outside with a restless heart until she emerged; she was wearing a white skirt and a black t-shirt, her hair blowing in the breeze... she looked so enchanting it took my breath away.

I stepped toward her with confident strides. "Hello, Violet."

She looked at me strangely, as if she had never seen me before. "Who are you?" she asked.

"I’m Morgan," I said with a faint smile. "Don’t you remember me? When Thomas and I rescued you from that bastard?"

Her features changed immediately, and annoyance clouded her face. "Hmm... I remember you now."

"Did you forget me in just one day?" I asked, feeling a small pang in my chest.

"No, no," she said, looking away. "But my mind was confused."

"It’s fine," I said, trying to lighten the mood. "Can we talk for a bit?"

"Yes, of course," she replied hesitantly.

"Come, get in the car," I said, opening the door for her gallantly.

She got in, and I sat behind the wheel, driving the car calmly. "Are you okay now?" I asked.

"Yes," she answered curtly.

"That’s good."

She looked at me suddenly and said, "So, you killed that bastard."

"Yes," I replied coldly. "What’s wrong, Violet? You’re acting as if you’ve lost your memory."

"No," she said anxiously. "But I heard that a man went to prison, and they said he’s the killer."

"Who is he? I don’t know," I replied in surprise.

"His name is Stuart Michael," she said with a burning intensity. "He’s an innocent man! Why is he going to prison when I’m the one who killed him?"

My body stiffened slightly. "Violet, I didn’t know this, but don’t worry at all... I’ll get him out of prison."

She looked at me in disbelief, her beautiful eyes widening. "Really? You’ll do that?"

"I certainly will," I said, drowning in her gaze. Then I asked, watching her reaction, "Did Thomas speak with you?"

"Who is Thomas?" she asked innocently.

"My friend Thomas, who was with us."

"Ah yes, Thomas... no, he hasn’t spoken to me."

"He’s married, Violet, and has two children," I warned her in a serious tone. "If he tries to talk to you, stay away from him."

"Married with two children?" she asked in astonishment. "And why would he talk to me?"

"I don’t know, but he might try to get close to you."

"Oh, I see."

We arrived at a restaurant overlooking the sea, where the waves were gently crashing. "We’re here," I said.

We got out of the car and entered the restaurant, sitting at a table facing the sea. I looked at her deeply. "You are very beautiful today."

Violet grew tense, and her cheeks flushed pink. "Thank you," she said softly. She placed her hands on the table in front of me, and I noticed a bracelet wrapped around her delicate wrist, engraved with the name "Meredith."

"Meredith..." I muttered absentmindedly.

She flinched and looked at me. "What?"

"I mean the name written on your bracelet," I replied, my eyes still fixed on it.

She became flustered and quickly pulled her hand back to hide it under the table. "Oh... it’s my sister’s name."

"You must love her very much," I said, trying to break the tension of her confusion.

"Yes... very much," she replied in a strange tone.

"What would you like to drink or eat? Let’s order something."

"Just juice," she said.

"Fine."

We sat in the restaurant for some time, her gaze lost in the horizon. Then she suddenly said, "I have to go now, Morgan."

"Alright, I’ll take you home," I said, standing up.

I drove her back, and before she could open the car door to get out, I gently caught her arm, making her turn toward me with a stiff body. "I’m attracted to you, Violet... I won’t hide this from you," I said in a low voice.

She didn’t answer, only looking at me with stunned eyes and slightly parted lips. I continued, feeling a heat surging through my chest: "When I saw you, something moved inside me... I don’t know how to explain it to you, but I like you very much."

I leaned closer until I felt her rapid breaths. I cupped her face with my hands, and she didn’t pull away... she showed no resistance. I brought my lips to hers and kissed her a long, deep kiss. I felt a shiver run through my body when she began to return the kiss as well.

After what felt like an eternity, I slowly pulled my lips away and looked into her hazy eyes. "Can I see you again?" I asked in a husky voice.

She didn’t utter a word; instead, she scrambled out of the car with shaky steps. I watched her with a pounding heart as she entered the house and closed the door behind her.
