My Seed Gives Systems In The Apocalypse
Chapter 14: Protection?
"If you don’t mind me asking, where are you from? Like, where is your family at?" Andrea asked lightly, keeping up the conversation.
However, little did she know, that simple question was becoming the bane of Fredrinn’s existence.
In his mind there were two ways to respond.
First was the simple one, telling her a random place and dropping the topic, but that was the most fruitless and quite frankly stupid way to respond.
There was simply no point of lying about it when his goal was to find the answer to that very question.
So he sighed and turned to look at Andrea, seriousness visible in his eyes as even Rhea was intrigued to find the answer to that question.
"I don’t know."
Fredrinn’s first words threw Andrea and Rhea both off guard completely.
How could someone not know where they were from?!
That was the most bullshit response that both the sisters had heard in a long while.
And yet, one look at Fredrinn’s face told them that he was not kidding.
"What do you even mean?" Rhea couldn’t hold back her surprise, interjecting the conversation swiftly.
"I... don’t remember anything about my family or my past." Fredrinn didn’t mind Rhea joining in, hell, he welcomed it.
As they say, one more mind at the puzzle or something?
"Uh..." Andrea was speechless hearing about the poor man’s woes, "Like... nothing? Not a single thing?"
"Kind of. It’s hazy. I remember that I had a father, mother, a baby and a small dog in my family. But I don’t remember much."
"Try to!" Rhea urged, "Close your eyes and imagine them or something! Also, was that baby yours?"
Fredrinn blinked.
"Mine?" He looked down at himself, checking the state of his skin and hands as he thought his lifespan expansion magic had stopped working or something.
Before he could reply more on the claim, Andrea bonked Rhea over the head, "Of course not, you idiot. It was his little brother or sister, maybe a cousin!"
But then she instantly turned to Fredrinn and blinked innocently, "Right?"
He chuckled. "Yes. Obviously."
Andrea smirked proudly for a second before looking at him worriedly, "I can’t even comprehend how hard it must be to not remember anything. Is it sort of a condition? Like dementia?"
"I don’t know." Fredrinn shook his head, "Hell, I don’t even remember how I got to the beach. I just had the sword with me and all around me there were zombies eating humans or roaming blindly."
"Could it be... a side effect of the awakening?" Rhea pointed out softly, still embarrassed about getting bonked on the head by her elder sister.
But then again, she realized that she was asking for a beating by questioning an obvious thing as opposed to the important questions.
’Side effect...’
If this was an anime, a light bulb would’ve surely glowed atop Fredrinn’s head as he had just found a perfect excuse for his lack of knowledge!
Confidently, he nodded to Rhea, "That’s what I think too! In exchange for strength to survive, I lost all the memories prior to that. A cruel fate, but it is what it is."
"No, it is not what it is!" Andrea scolded from the side, no longer just being flirty but actually getting interested in the stranger’s story.
Fredrinn chuckled in response.
And to break off the somber mood, Andrea promptly pointed out that the noodles were getting cold and they should eat first.
Rhea and Fredrinn still had their chopsticks, so they allowed Andrea to have the spork that comes inside the packaging, sharing it with her as well.
It got a little messy, but the girls didn’t mind and Fredrinn obviously had no issues. He only wanted to eat for the taste anyway since he could survive easily without food for a decent while.
[ <LUST> feels that the host is having a lot of fun. ]
’Well, you should try eating a single cup of noodles with two beauties too. Maybe it would be fun for you as well.’ Fredrinn laughed as he replied in his mind.
[ <LUST> replies that it has better ways of entertainment. ]
’Like what? Actually, you’re a sin, aren’t you? You must be in hell, it must be so fun there, heh.’
[ <LUST> points out that almost 95% of the humans end up in hell, as the host calls it. ]
’So what?’ Fredrinn intentionally picked the noodles up from the place where Andrea was trying to grab, making her grumble cutely.
[ <LUST> says it will wait for the host’s mother to arrive in its domain. ]
’You motherfuc***’
[ <LUST> replies not yet. Still waiting. ]
Fredrinn was speechless. He thought he was the one bullying his holographic system panel, but he never realized that the bastard was simply baiting him.
However Fredrinn was a master at finding the silver lining.
’So at least my mother’s still alive. Right?’
[ <LUST> has issued a quest. ]
[ Requirement: Collect 5 zombie cores and gain 3 Voluntary Thralls.
Reward: Location of the host’s family.
Time Limit: Nil. ]
[ <LUST> wishes best of luck. ]
’You... bastard! You know their location and not telling me?!’
[ <LUST> replies that information is invaluable. Be glad. ]
Fredrinn wanted to curse a lot more at the infuriating sin, but he had a feeling that it was enjoying it.
Pissing other people and making them lose their marbles was exactly the kind of fun that Fredrinn would expect from a sin, after all.
So he took a deep breath and poked his chopsticks into the cup only to find out that it had already been emptied.
He glanced at the two sisters, and Rhea averted her eyes like the usual while Andrea simply smiled sheepishly, like she made a small oopsie.
"You seemed too unfocused so we thought you were full already." Andrea reasoned with a small teasing smile that suggested she didn’t believe the excuse herself.
"As if." Fredrinn chuckled but let the matter go, leaning back onto his seat as he stretched his sore muscles.
It was probably a day or two left till his magic circuits returned back to normal.
If luck favoured him, it could happen by the night, but he himself knew that the luck never favoured him so he didn’t have much hope.
"So how are we going to handle the sleeping issue?" He asked both the sisters but it was obvious who would respond first.
"We???" Andrea glanced up at him questioningly with a beautiful and teasing smile.
Initially Fredrinn intended it to be a normal question but after Andrea’s reply, he had better responses on his mind.
"Indeed." He looked around casually, "There are so many men here, and there are zombies knocking on the metallic shutters up ahead, don’t you girls want some protection?"
Rhea’s face got flushed as if someone had forcefully applied blush on both her cheeks, while Andrea simply giggled.
"Protection? Who’s to say that we aren’t in need of protection from you, mister?" She shot back.
