Chapter 806 - 484: Alice’s Twilight Expedition
Alice had actually been planning to kill Harms.
Although Harms’ strength far surpassed her own, it was still possible for her to accomplish this with Arianna’s help.
She even felt that she didn’t actually need to join forces with Arianna; she only had to exploit Harms’ fanatical devotion to Vivian to get it done.
For someone whose brain has been eaten away by such fanaticism, a little guidance is all it takes to lead them to offer their life to a supreme being.
But in the course of her exchanges with Arianna, Alice conceived a new idea: she planned to use Harms to turn the War God Church into the Death God Church.
From Arianna’s attitude, the Goddess of Death was without doubt the most faithful supporter of Claude and Vivian. Alice couldn’t quite understand why a god would hold such an attitude toward the leaders of the Twilight of the Gods, but for the time being, the Goddess of Death clearly belonged to the camp that could be allied with.
After several years of tempering, Alice had become extremely smooth and adept in handling affairs, clearly distinguishing who could be united with and who had to be killed.
The Goddess of Death gradually converting the War God Church into her own church was an enormous boon for Alice. It meant one less enemy on this continent, and with high probability, one more ally.
As Alice’s status rose, her dream had gradually shifted from merely overthrowing the rule of the Thunder Church to overthrowing the rule of the Gods themselves.
As for whether the Death God Church would eventually become her enemy, judging from Arianna’s current attitude, that was unlikely.
In fact, if Claude hadn’t forced Her to disguise Herself as the War God, Arianna would most likely have remained in a state of feigned death, unwilling to show Herself.
Form a church?
If Shen Sui hadn’t given his approval, Arianna wouldn’t have had the nerve.
As for how to quietly transform the existing War God Church into the Death God Church, Alice already had a plan:
War.
Under the current continental pattern, Thunder, Daylight, and the War God formed a three-way standoff, while the many other Gods all lay in wait in the shadows for an opportunity.
Because of the divine war between those two Gods, Thunder and Daylight would almost certainly launch a war.
Harms’ assault had in fact left both sides dumbfounded. Their first reaction was to wonder if the War God had gone mad.
But Harms’ actions were, after all, only individual actions, at most the will of the War God Church as a whole. War God Balgas had not come forth to make any statement, so the priests on both sides couldn’t get a read on Harms’ intentions. Nor did they dare to rashly call him to account and thereby push the whole War God Church into the enemy camp.
Thus, in the War God Temple, the fierce battle that had been raging fell once more into an eerie calm as Harms withdrew from the field. Not a single Thunder Priest or Daylight Priest who had been attacked dared to step forward first to question him; everyone’s gaze turned to the two Popes standing at the very front.
Meanwhile, elsewhere, Alice had used a Puppet to strike a deal with Arianna: the War God Church would seize the opportunity, as Daylight and Thunder entered a state of war, to launch crusades against the other churches and divine faith organizations on the Dawn Continent.
With the outbreak of that war, the deaths of大量 Extraordinary were inevitable. Arianna could then harvest the souls of the dead on the battlefield in great numbers, thereby creating believers of the Death God.
In this moment, war would signify death; the War God would become the Death God.
In the process, the Goddess of Death, Arianna, would gain a vast number of genuine believers, while Alice would use the War God Church’s hand to sweep away all divine factions other than Daylight and Thunder.
If this plan truly came to fruition, then by that time only three divine factions would remain on the entire continent.
The Death God Church, the Daylight Church, and the Thunder Church.
Arianna seemed to foresee the explosive growth of Her own power in the future, and in order to avoid provoking Claude’s suspicion, She took the initiative to suggest that Alice’s organization should lead the future Death God Church. This was also why Alice restructured the Pseudo-Dusk Council to establish the new Twilight Council.
On the Thunder Church’s side, Alice was already the Pope of the Thunder Church, and the Twilight Legion’s infiltration of the Thunder Church had begun. With the outbreak of divine war between the Thunder and Daylight Churches, Alice could, under the Pope’s name, deliberately send priests originally loyal to the Master of Thunder to the front lines as trench-filling cannon fodder, then continuously place members of the Twilight Legion into the key positions left vacant, completing a scheme of "returning the soul in a borrowed corpse."
Last came the Daylight Church. Historically, the original Twilight Council had already merged into the Daylight Church, and Baris’ Candlelight Illusion, Aivia, was even the Pope of the Daylight Church. Once matters on this side were settled, she would go to Sun City, the headquarters of the Daylight Church, in her original identity to fulfill the agreement between Baris and Claude.
In other words, if the War God Church truly managed, through this opportunity, to wipe out all divine factions other than Thunder and Daylight, Alice would have replicated ninety percent of the Twilight of the Gods’ achievements of that year.
Unlike Vivian’s decapitation strike back then, Alice this time was dismantling the Gods’ system of faith first, cutting off at the root any foundation for their resurrection. By the time Shen Sui turned all those Gods into Life Cards, the Gods of the entire Dawn Continent would be swept away without a trace.
