My Stubborn Soul Card Follower
Chapter 808 - 485: War God Puppet Body Bargas
The paired slaughter of the death game had finally reached its conclusion.
Vivian walked up to her last opponent.
According to what Keynes said at the very beginning, as long as she defeated this opponent, she could challenge Keynes.
Vivian had only used the candle flame to control Keynes’ body; she hadn’t killed him.
Which meant that right now, Keynes was actually still alive.
Vivian had no intention of writing and acting out the final Duel by herself.
Just as Keynes had toyed with other people’s lives through Duels, Vivian planned to give Keynes a chance—a chance to live, as long as he could defeat her in a Duel.
The expression a villain shows in this kind of desperate situation is always delightful to watch.
From Shen Sui’s point of view, though, this whole thing stopped being scary the moment Vivian turned everyone from the Descent Association into candle flames.
Of course, even if Vivian hadn’t done that, this whole thing didn’t seem to have anything particularly scary about it to Shen Sui anyway.
But from everyone else’s perspective, this death game really was going to kill people—especially those who hadn’t yet been called by name to join it.
Naturally, that included Louise.
Louise felt like her mental state was on the verge of collapse.
This situation had already moved beyond a simple attack.
Once Fujimoto Kyosuke died, this "attack" turned subtle in a fucked‑up way.
The people who’d been content to watch from the sidelines started panicking one after another.
When one of the contestants was called out by Keynes, his psyche collapsed on the spot; he pulled out the handgun he carried for self‑defense, pointed it at Keynes, and emptied the magazine.
Yet all that resistance didn’t seem to have any effect. Keynes was indeed hit, but his body had long since turned into a black shadowy phantom; all the bullets struck him without causing the slightest harm.
As punishment for his resistance, that contestant who’d fired the gun was swallowed up by countless shadows.
His shrill screams of agony chilled everyone to the bone.
And it was precisely because of this scene that everyone else calmed down, obediently accepting the assignments for the life‑and‑death Duels.
If you joined a Duel, you at least still had a sliver of hope to live. If you tried to resist, who knew what these lunatics from the Descent Association would do.
As the death game went on, the contestants taking part in it died off one after another.
"Don’t be afraid." Shen Sui saw how pale Louise’s face was and smiled as he comforted her. "You’re not even on the roster for the death game."
"Damn it." Louise raised her head and glanced at Keynes, lowering her voice to almost a whisper. "Someone who can start a death game like this is obviously just a pure thrill‑seeker. No one can guarantee he won’t suddenly change his mind. And these games don’t have any outside guarantees at all."
"You seem really scared of getting dragged into a life‑and‑death Duel?" Shen Sui lifted his brows and said with a smile.
"No shit." Louise couldn’t help rolling her eyes. "I don’t want to die."
"In that case..." Shen Sui flashed his Dueling Device. "You can Duel with me first. As long as we’re in a Duel state, even if they want to use a life‑and‑death Duel to come after us, they won’t be able to."
Louise’s eyes lit up. "Right! And once the Duel Realm is deployed, it doesn’t seem to be affected by any outside factors either."
Ever since the Extraordinary Invasion, the Duel Realm in this world seemed to have quietly undergone some changes as well.
The priority of Duels had been raised to the highest level in this world.
Once a Duel began, no external factor outside the two Duelists could interfere with that Duel.
This was first discovered in the States: two Life Card Masters happened to run into a group of black Card Hunters while they were Dueling. Those Card Hunters emptied their magazines toward the Duel Realm, yet still couldn’t cause any damage to either Duelist.
Even though that earlier case had only occurred on the physical level, it might very well have a similar effect when it came to Extraordinary Power.
As long as she and Shen Sui opened a Duel, the Descent Association might not be able to force her into the death game.
But soon, as something else occurred to her, Louise quickly deflated again.
Even if she used a Duel to get through this first death game, the fact that she and the others were still on the Saint Yimiti wouldn’t change. As long as this ship remained under the control of the Descent Association, there could always be a second or third death game.
After all, they’d never said there would only be one death game, nor had they promised that the winner of the death game could walk away alive.
Louise was born into a family of capitalists; when there’s enough profit on the table, even a black‑and‑white written contract can be torn up, let alone something with not even a verbal assurance.
"No matter what, just getting through this period is good enough, isn’t it?" Shen Sui made a gesture at Louise.
Louise stared at Shen Sui speechlessly, but she had to admit what he said did make sense. After making sure no one was paying attention to their side, she hurriedly nodded.
"See? Since your opponent’s agreed, doesn’t that mean the finals can restart?" Shen Sui was delighted that Louise had agreed; he quickly grabbed a nearby referee and asked with a grin.
Louise, whose nerves were taut from watching her surroundings, nearly collapsed to the floor when she heard Shen Sui’s words.
She stared at Shen Sui in shock, mouth opening as if to say something, but then she remembered their current situation. She didn’t dare act as fearless as Shen Sui, tugging at the people nearby to chat. What if she caught the eyes of these vicious bastards?
