My System Forces Me to Live off Women
Chapter 378 - 288: Petting the Cat (Part 3)
He Yimeng: "If I try to contact you at night, you wouldn’t be able to come out. Perfect timing, the fifth batch of supplies is about to arrive soon, every volunteer group needs to come out and work, and you’ll have an excuse."
Li Peifeng: "I’m not going, after work, I still need to go home and type."
He Yimeng: "Just chatting, nothing else to do. Yesterday I adopted a Ragdoll cat from a visitor, it’s very well-behaved, just a few months old. Aren’t you coming to take a look?"
Li Peifeng: "Consultants aren’t supposed to accept gifts from visitors, is this okay?"
He Yimeng: "It’s not a gift. Come over and I’ll explain."
"Ding~"
The volunteers’ WeChat group in the community was summoning people to gather again. Li Peifeng replied with a message, "See you at the property office." Then he quickly changed clothes and went downstairs to work.
In just twenty minutes, the volunteers swarmed together to unload the supplies from the truck and distributed them to the residents of each apartment building.
With so many people working, it was quick, and everyone’s experience had improved significantly compared to before. This kind of routine work was done in no time.
Li Peifeng finished up and was about to head home with his share of supplies, but as he passed Building No. 1, he saw He Yimeng wave at him.
"Come on, let’s go to my place."
Li Peifeng stopped, recalling their earlier WeChat conversation, he frowned and said, "Why are you raising a cat under these circumstances? Are you bored? Do you have cat food, cat litter, or anything?"
"That’s not for you to worry about." He Yimeng’s eyes were smiling: "I just have one question, don’t you want to pet a cat?"
Most people can’t resist their affection for fluffy animals like cats, especially Ragdoll cats, known as the fairy of cats, admired for their looks!
It’s strange, since ancient times, both domestic and international writers and poets have had a unique affection for cats; numerous writers are also avid cat lovers. For instance, Hemingway, Borges, Jack Kerouac, Herman Hesse, and so on. There was even a conflict between Qian Zhongshu and Lin Huiyin because of cats fighting at home.
Nowadays, an increasing number of online writers keep cats, perhaps because the aloof, independent yet naturally cute nature of cats resonates with or inspires many creators of literature and art.
Originally, Li Peifeng wanted to keep a cat too, but after much consideration, he decided it was too much trouble, thinking cats and dogs, those little pets, are always adorable when they belong to others, but at home, they’re just poop machines...
"Just chatting and looking at the cat?"
Li Peifeng was intrigued but clearly had reservations. After all, Wu Wenyue and the others were in the same community. If he frequently interacted with He Yimeng, it would be discovered sooner or later, causing trouble.
"Come if you want."
He Yimeng rolled her eyes, seemingly no longer interested in talking, turned around, and left.
"Then let’s look at the cat. I’ll pet it for a while, then leave."
After a moment’s thought, Li Peifeng decided to follow.
In just a few steps, they entered the corridor and reached He Yimeng’s home.
"Snap~"
Li Peifeng put down the box of supplies in his hand and glanced around the unchanged living room, suddenly realizing something was off.
"Where’s the cat? There’s not even a cat food bowl, where are you keeping it?"
He Yimeng also put down her supplies, slightly tossed her head, removed her mask, and her white hair floated gently. She looked at Li Peifeng with a smiling face and softly uttered a sound: "Meow~"
Sweet and gentle.
Li Peifeng’s expression froze, like he had touched a live wire, his eyebrows twitching: "Mengmeng, what trick are you playing..."
He understood, there was never a cat! Or perhaps the woman in front of him was the cat?!!
He Yimeng’s smile grew stronger, as she approached Li Peifeng. Her eyes sparkled with a warm yet faint light as she held her hands with fingers out as if mimicking a cat’s whiskers, then pouted cutely: "Meow? Meow! Meow~"

Seeing Li Peifeng unmoved, He Yimeng seemed a bit dissatisfied, she reached out and gently brushed his cheek with her fingertips, commanding: "Quickly, pet the cat, meow~~"
