"So, Natsukawa-san, do you still have any objections to my rejection?" Renz didnât forget to twist the knife for Masuzu Natsukawa. With the facts laid bare, what objections could she possibly have?
"I wonât bother you again," Masuzu Natsukawa stated firmly. Being harassed by male students had annoyed her, prompting her to seek a "fake boyfriend" to ward off those persistent admirers. Now, she found herself in the same position as those boys. After understanding the situation fully, she couldnât bring herself to be that shameless.
"But why didnât you tell me this that day?" she asked, curiosity getting the better of her.
"Because I wasnât married yet," Renz explained.
"Eh, eh, eh? So, Renz-kun went straight to the district office to sign the certificate right after confessing yesterday?" Chika Fujiwara exclaimed, her voice rising in shock. A public confession? A marriage certificate signed on the spot? Kaguya Shinomiyaâs mind immediately conjured up the scene. This couple was intense! So decisive?
"Thatâs right," Renz nodded. "Signed the certificate on the spot."
"So, were you two already a couple for many years before getting married?" Masuzu Natsukawa couldnât help but ask. Her question was sharp, aimed at confirming her suspicions. She had noticed Renzâs disciplined behavior at schoolâhe avoided girls. If her observation proved correct, it would suggest that Renzâs actions werenât due to "gynephobia" or anything similar, but rather a desire to maintain distance from girls.
"Childhood sweethearts?" Chika Fujiwara mused, recalling the trope from romance manga.
"No," Renz shook his head. "But weâve known each other for a long time.
"Then itâs a fated encounter!" Chika Fujiwara interjected, throwing out another professional term. "But if youâre not childhood sweethearts, you could only have known each other for a year or two at most. If you married that quickly, isnât the progress a bit too fast?"
"By the way, Renz-kun, how many children are you planning to have?" Fujiwaraâs mind jumped to another topic.
"As for children, at least four," Renz held up four fingers. "More than that isnât out of the question either."
"Youâve already discussed having children? This progression is completely off!" Miyuki Shirogane added, bewildered.
"Speaking of which, I think I heard something quite shocking on the phone just now," Masuzu Natsukawa recalled a phrase from the conversation. Feigning "shock," she asked, "Are you two already living together?!"
As a schemer, Masuzu believed this phrase was just Renzâs partner asserting her ownership with "fierce words." Actually living together so soon was too early. Many couples enjoyed the honeymoon phase, but cohabitation was the true test. Living together sparked countless problemsâunfamiliar eating habits, differing routines. It was said that the breakup rate for couples living together was alarmingly high. Those who couldnât handle it were eliminated.
Masuzu Natsukawaâs stance as an anti-romance advocate was rooted in her upbringing. Her father, a successful entrepreneur, had abandoned her mother for another woman, a woman who married him solely for his wealth. Her stepmother and father were both fully aware of their transactional relationship but tacitly agreed to it. Raised in such an environment and educated in elite institutions, Masuzu, while outwardly gentle, secretly loathed morally corrupt men. She absolutely disapproved of any couple.
She was a devout member of the FFF Brigade. Pure to the extreme! She had approached Renz because he rejected the "peeping plan" and maintained a good image at schoolâideal to fend off external interference. But now, this guy was the ultimate demon lord, the strongest high school student, eclipsing all "normies."
"Weâve been living together for quite a while," Renz casually revealed, noticing the doubt in Masuzuâs voice. After a brief pause, he understood the situation.
In the previous call, Renz had been passive, allowing Erina to control the conversation, which made it seem like a one-sided declaration of love. In truth, Renz was annoyed by Erinaâs bold and "embarrassing" words. Despite knowing those flirtatious remarks shouldnât be spoken aloud, she insisted. After speaking, she probably couldnât handle the embarrassment and hid under a blanket, leaving Renz no chance to respond.
"Renz-kun, I could hear the affection in your wifeâs voice on the phone," Masuzu commented meaningfully. "Donât betray your wifeâs love. Donât be a two-timer." Her words were sharp and aimed to provoke. If she were confronting a true two-timer, heâd likely be flustered, looking around nervously. It was a targeted remark.
But Renz, unfazed, remained calm.
Little girl,
Who are you trying to mess with?
Renz mused, knowing full well he was someone who stood in the sunlight. Petty "sarcasm" held no weight for him. "On my wedding day, Iâll send you an invitation."
"After all, weâre classmates."
"And when my childâs full-month celebration comes around, Iâll send you an invitation too."
He wasnât afraid. Their silent battle continued.
Kaguya Shinomiya, caught in the crossfire, couldnât help but think about weddings and children. She truly loved innocent children, and if they were her own, she would cherish them even more. The idea made Kaguya both envious and hopeful. Would anyone ever confess to her? Would anyone ever sign a marriage certificate with her?
Masuzu Natsukawa, facing this counterattack, found herself once again unable to make sense of the situation. The phone call had painted Renz as a "scumbag" who reveled in ambiguity, accepting othersâ affections without reciprocating, unpredictable and elusive. But after the call, he had transformed into a champion of justice. This contradiction piqued Masuzuâs curiosity.
Just what kind of relationship did Renz and his partner have?
Masuzu Natsukawa had a bad feeling. Could these two be a couple specialized in annihilating the FFF Brigade?
