Chapter 1486: Watching You
He was very close to her.
Close enough to see her distinct eyelashes.
Long and curled, they matched her round eyes well.
"Are you sleeping?"
She asked again, looking into his eyes.
His eyes were truly beautiful.
The young man shook his head, his lips a shade paler, "No."
"Oh." She nodded, placing both hands on her knees, stacking her fingers one on top of the other.
She gazed at him intently, as if she could do so all day.
Finally, the boy couldn’t suppress his curiosity and asked her, "Why are you always looking at me?"
"I’m not looking at you." Hannah shook her head, her eyes curving into a smile, "I’m looking at your eyes."
The boy found this statement a bit odd.
But it also seemed right.
He didn’t continue to think about it, "Can you let me go now?"
Hannah thought about it seriously.
Then she shook her head, "No."
Those three words again.
Her voice was soft and sweet, almost like she was cooing.
This time, the boy didn’t ask why.
He just repeated, "I won’t run away."
Because he no longer had anywhere to go.
Hannah did not reply but stood up and returned to her own seat.
She was rummaging through her backpack.
The one that was almost bigger than her.
Her backpack had everything in it.
Rations, water, an iron rod, a knife blade sharpened to a fine edge, and a pink comforter and pillow. 𝙛𝒓𝓮𝙚𝔀𝒆𝒃𝓷𝒐𝓿𝙚𝓵.𝙘𝒐𝒎
The contents of her backpack were almost scattered on the ground.
The boy felt a bit uncomfortable, his fingertips twitching.
Wanting to help her tidy up.
Hannah didn’t mind the mess on the floor, happily clutching her pink blanket and pillow as she ran back over.
She was like a child eager to show off her beloved toy, "I brought a comforter and a pillow."
Both were pink.
It was a very gentle color.
The boy thought she must have intended them for her own use.
"It’s okay if I don’t use them."
He spoke up proactively, to save her from feeling awkward.
But when he finished speaking, Hannah looked at him strangely.
As if she didn’t understand.
She thought those beautiful eyes might want to talk to her.
But she was very sleepy now and just wanted to sleep, "You’re lying on my sleeping spot, can you move aside?"
The boy looked down.
That’s when he noticed that there was a wooden board and a mattress where he was sitting.
After a moment of silence, the boy realized he had been presumptuous and felt warmth creeping over his face, so he silently moved to the side, "I’m sorry."
Hannah said it was okay.
She was easygoing.
Hannah hummed a tune, cheerfully arranging her pillow and blanket before slipping out of her jacket and diving in.
Her face was turned toward the boy, "Good night."
The boy leaned against the cold wall and nodded in response, "Good night."
She then turned away, covering her head so that only her fuzzy top was visible.
A long time passed, and it was deep into the night.
The night was very still; even the wind had ceased.
The boy stared at the fire, tugging at his bound hands behind him. The rope around his body became loose and fell to the ground in a straight drop.
He instinctively turned his head to glance at Hannah, sleeping beside him.
She was sleeping soundly, undisturbed, merely turning over.
He stood up.
"Don’t move!"
The girl’s voice suddenly came from behind him.
He froze instinctively, explaining, "I wasn’t planning to escape..."
"Give me the roasted meat in your hands."
The boy was stunned.
He turned his head to see the girl’s peaceful sleeping face.
She was just talking in her sleep.
He breathed a sigh of relief, bent down, and carefully tidied up the items scattered on the ground, meticulously putting each one back into the large backpack.
