Our Family Has Fallen
Chapter 1056 - 587: Bay 9_2
She was now both their queen and their slave, the hideous ruler in the lightless abyss, the fallen Siren—Queen Siren.
Simply put, the ancestor offered the little fangirl as a sacrifice to the Deep Diver, becoming a vessel for the Deep Sea Force.
And Siren’s role for the Deep Diver was to lure more humans to be transformed into more Deep Divers with her Enchanting Voice.
That’s why Siren was both a queen and a slave controlled by the Deep Diver.
For Lance, it was just another tragedy sparked by the ancestor.
The witch of the wilds, the Pigmen in the Beast Lair, the Siren in the bay... Hamlet’s territory was full of the mess made by the old thing.
It was only hard on him, the heir, who had to clean up the old thing’s mess.
Looking at the Siren, already weak and on the brink of death, Lance couldn’t help but curse under his breath.
"Damn old ancestor!"
The Siren couldn’t be seen by anyone else; it could only die here to ease Lance’s mind.
Lance approached with his sword in hand, ready to end her suffering.
But he didn’t expect that creature to be playing dead. As Lance got close, she suddenly blew the Siren’s Conch one last time.
It was then that Lance realized why it had a pouch in its throat like a toad; it was the source of the long breath when blowing the conch.
However, at this moment, the pouch swelled and deflated quickly. Even more bizarre, instead of sound, several deformed, twisted worms shot out of the conch, attacking Lance with swift movements.
Devourer Feast!
Lance, however, stood still, allowing the creatures to bite onto his Black Armor. They were like sea maggots, faceless, yet with a mouth full of long, sharp needles; being bitten would make any wound hard to sew up.
Even more strangely, the back halves of these sea maggots were connected, and their bodies had irregular blue spheres, possibly organs or parts of their bodies.
In the end, their bodies receded into the conch, making it appear as if the conch was a living organism, or perhaps a marine creature parasitizing the conch.
But it didn’t matter; the Siren’s last-ditch effort with the conch hadn’t even scratched Lance’s armor. Their sharp teeth shattered on his Black Armor, reducing the attack to a joke.
In ritualistic fashion, Lance unsheathed Wolf Fang, whispered softly to it.
"Let this be the end of your feud with the ancestor."
With that, Wolf Fang swung out at a speed too fast to react to. One couldn’t even see the blade touching the Siren’s body, only Lance’s sheathing motion.
The Siren’s body stood still for two seconds before collapsing with a thud. Only then did he see the rolling head. In a way, Lance had given it a quick end with the sharpness of Wolf Fang.
Old entanglements severed with one stroke.
As the Siren died, the Deep Divers in the bay were wiped out as well.
At this moment, Lance finally removed his Black Armor, revealing skin like charred flesh, which recovered in an instant.
Donning shorts, Lance raised his hand and offered the Siren as a sacrifice.
The Void swallowed the Siren’s corpse, yet it showed resistance, showing no response for now.
Lance picked up a slightly thinner whale bone from the ground and put it away, showing little concern.
He was tired anyway. Even if no equipment dropped, it wasn’t a surprise. After all, no gear had dropped from the Shamans; instead, the Fishmen warriors dropped about ten scales. Though consumables, they were hard currency.
A faint illusion of deep-sea waves shattered easily, shortly followed by a stream of light flowing into Lance.
The surprise rejuvenated Lance’s numb heart, and he had not expected the sacrifice of the Siren to grant him an ability!
When he focused back on himself to feel the gift, he realized it was actually the Siren’s ability, the Enchanting Voice.
This ability gave his voice a magical power; as long as the opponent’s will wasn’t strong enough, they would be controlled, like how those Deep Divers were lured by the Siren’s call.
Understanding this ability even shocked Lance a bit, for it was truly outrageous.
He could potentially shout for an enemy to stop in combat, and if their will failed, they’d stop. Even if they resisted, a moment of distraction in a high-stakes duel could decide the victory.
This was just the tip of the iceberg of this ability. Push it further, and his voice could make enemies fight for him.
For instance, in today’s battle, he could have commanded the Deep Divers to fight amongst themselves with a shout.
Bewitchment, motivation, brainwashing... Simply put, his voice carried an irresistible charm, regardless of gender or species.
The adventure didn’t end there; the void also returned the conch it swallowed. It seemed as though it had been cleansed, looking exquisite, and the barnacles clinging to it before were gone.
Taking the conch in hand and studying it, Lance realized it could amplify the Enchanting Voice and was a complementary piece of equipment. Little wonder it was returned as part of the gift.
Of course, this Siren’s Conch itself was an Extraordinary Equipment and a tool for spellcasters. Augments aside, its most important feature was to stabilize Spiritual Essence.
Though it didn’t benefit Lance much—his Sanctuary was unrivaled!
Examining it, Lance found that the sea maggots inside seemed to have been devoured by the void, leaving a simple magical conch.
"Woo—!"
Lance, like a child with a new toy, couldn’t resist blowing into it.
However, he couldn’t reproduce Siren’s rhythm, coming out as chaotic and bizarre.
Yet Lance relished it, playing with the conch while beginning to clear the battlefield.
The Deep Divers were all dead, but their tamed marine creatures, like the Stinging Jellyfish.
Without the support of the Shamans’ Supernatural Power, the jellyfish all fell back into the water.
The water had risen to the calves initially due to the Shamans, but with their death, the water level quickly receded.
The jellyfish ended up stranded on the ground at various spots.
Lance approached without much effort, sacrificed them; these creatures were brainless.
The Stinging Jellyfish stranded, yet those Sea Snails, after losing the Shaman’s control, still didn’t stop, continuing their assault as commanded by the Shamans.
Except their target wasn’t Lance, but the hapless Giant Pincer Tidestealer.
The battle scene was chaotic, showing a few purple-black limbs severed and some cracked shells of the snails; seemingly, the shells weren’t as hard as the Giant Pincers.
But the number of Sea Snails was overwhelming, losing a few didn’t matter. Conversely, the Giant Pincer Tidestealer fared worse off.
When water levels were high, its lower body wouldn’t be coated with mucus, and its powerful pincers had the strength to resist the slime.
However, as water levels dropped, the pointed feet of its lower limbs quickly became stuck in the mucus, severely restricting its movement.
Yet the sea snails couldn’t manage much against the Giant Pincer Tidestealer. All they did was cover it in spittle, submerging it, and now the pincer crab was just blowing bubbles inside.
Lance picked up a warhammer and shattered the shells of the Sea Snails as if opening a box. The cracking sound was surprisingly relieving.
After clearing away the Sea Snails, Lance hesitated while looking at the Giant Pincer Tidestealer, but eventually put down the warhammer, even used something to clear the slime from its head, freeing it.
He wanted to test if his Enchanting Voice was truly effective, trying to communicate with it.
"Don’t move, I’m here to save you."
Big eyes stared at smaller eyes; the Tidestealer, entangled by the Sea Snails for who knows how long, had no strength left. Otherwise, it wouldn’t have been blowing bubbles.
But it wasn’t like the lowly sea snails; it hadn’t forgotten its command.
After hearing Lance’s voice, it grew agitated; if not covered in slime, it might have lifted its pincers at him.
"Hey, can you understand?"
Lance was a little confused, this didn’t feel right!
