Overpowered Resident Doctor
Chapter 316 - 315: Cost
The Yan siblings returned to their home at Zuimo Court and found that, in addition to the young Tian Yu, Song Yi was there as well.
Hearing the reason for Song Yi’s visit, Yan Feifan asked in surprise, "The infusion controller prototype is already designed and built? That was fast."
The smartly-dressed Song Yi said, "Three weeks isn’t exactly a short amount of time."
"The product’s functions aren’t complex and are easy to implement. The outsourced design team spent most of their time on feature integration, cost control, and exterior design."
"Of course, this is just a prototype. The design team can still scrap it and start from scratch or continue making improvements based on our feedback."
After this brief explanation, Song Yi asked, "Where’s Su Ye?"
"She’s on the night shift at the hospital tonight."
Yan Feifan replied, then added an invitation, "Song Yi, you haven’t had dinner yet, have you?"
"Let’s eat first, and we can talk about the product afterward."
Dinner had been prepared in advance by Du Qiu before she went home to look after her own child, who was back from boarding school.
Six dishes and a soup were laid out on the dining table—quite a bountiful meal.
The four of them sat down around the dining table.
Yan Feifan looked at Tian Yu, who was eagerly eyeing the dishes, and asked, "Your high school entrance exams are just a month away. Why have you come over again?"
Tian Yu giggled. "Mr. Yan, after visiting last week, I feel like I’ve been fully recharged."
"My mind has been clear at school these past few days, I’m not dozing off in class anymore, and I can understand the problems the teacher explains at a single glance."
Yan Feifan snorted. "Keep up the sweet talk," he warned. "If you don’t do well on your entrance exams, you’ll have more than enough to cry about."
Tian Yu’s playful smile vanished, replaced by a timid and pitiful expression.
"Mr. Yan, I get it. I have been working really hard."
Yan Ziruo couldn’t watch this any longer. "Xiaoyu," she said, "no matter what your score is, we’ll still be here for you."
"Besides, we girls have our own strengths. Getting into a prestigious school isn’t the only path in life."
Yan Feifan shot his sister a displeased glare. "Sis, saying that is highly irresponsible..."
Song Yi couldn’t help but smile. "How about we discuss Xiaoyu’s education after we finish eating?"
"To be honest, I didn’t eat much for lunch, and I’m starving now."
Yan Feifan said no more and picked up his chopsticks to eat.
A moment later, however, he heard the three women chattering away about beauty treatments and plastic surgery.
"Feifan, tell me, how do I get rid of my dull skin tone, acne, and these blemishes?"
Yan Feifan glanced at Song Yi’s face. "Your issues are mainly caused by a hormonal imbalance."
"Keep a regular sleep schedule, maintain a balanced diet, use less makeup, and you should see a significant improvement in two or three months."
Song Yi sighed. "That’s the hard part. My work habits are already ingrained; they’re not so easy to change."
"You can always do it if you really want to."
Yan Feifan offered a casual piece of advice before asking, "Is your brother still as busy as he used to be?"
The smile on Song Yi’s face widened. "He’s changed a lot. For one, several of the R&D projects he was leading have been completed."
"And two, someone who can finally rein him in has appeared." 𝑓𝓇𝘦ℯ𝘸𝘦𝑏𝓃𝑜𝘷ℯ𝑙.𝑐𝑜𝓂
"Otherwise, I wouldn’t have been able to free up so much time to start a company with you."
"Someone who can rein him in?"
Yan Ziruo asked gossipily, "Did your brother find a girlfriend?"
Song Yi affirmed, "Mhm. She’s also a doctor at your Affiliated Hospital. My brother knew her from back when they were in the United States."
"They got back in touch a while ago."
"Somehow that tech-obsessed brother of mine had a breakthrough, and one thing led to another... now they’re a couple."
"Which doctor is it?" Even Yan Feifan couldn’t suppress his curiosity.
"The psychologist, Tan Xiao."
"It’s her!" Yan Feifan was genuinely surprised.
However, the two of them were indeed a good match: one a genius in communications technology and a prodigy of the business world, the other a prized recruit with both beauty and brains.
Yan Ziruo exclaimed, "Dr. Tan! Of course, I know her! She’s widely considered one of the most captivating beauties in our hospital."
"Feifan has mentioned her a few times, too. He said she’s brilliant in her field."
She then asked, a curious look on her face, "Song Yi, uhm... let me ask something I probably shouldn’t."
"This Dr. Tan is a very skilled psychologist, you know."
"Aren’t you worried that she might have used hypnotic suggestion or something to make your brother fall in love with her?"
Yan Feifan quickly interjected, "Sis, don’t be so childish. A psychologist’s abilities aren’t as mysterious as you imagine."
"No matter how powerful the hypnosis or suggestion, it can only work along the lines of a person’s fundamental beliefs."
"For example, you can’t hypnotize someone into committing murder. It violates their core principles, so it would never succeed."
Tian Yu piped up, "But Mr. Yan, I’ve seen movies and TV shows where the psychologists were super, super powerful."
"That’s just artistic exaggeration," Yan Feifan explained.
Once the others had fallen silent, Song Yi spoke slowly. "Even if my brother really was hypnotized, I’d accept it."
"He still prioritizes his work, but now he’s also started paying more attention to his health and taking care of himself."
"I don’t have to nag him all day anymore."
Song Yi chuckled. "And I have some more news for you all. At the end of the month, my brother and I are moving in here."
"It’ll be much more convenient for us to meet up, and for my brother to go on dates with Dr. Tan..."
After dinner, Tian Yu was left to grudgingly clean the dining room and wash the dishes while the Yan siblings and Song Yi went into the master bedroom.
Yan Feifan finally saw the infusion controller prototypes.
There were two of them.
One looked like a rectangular power bank, while the other was shaped like a fist-sized goose egg.
Yan Feifan picked one up, weighing it in his hand. It had some heft to it, around three hundred grams.
"The continuous heating function consumes a lot of power, so the battery is a bit heavy."
Song Yi explained, then picked up the rectangular prototype and unlatched it, opening it into two halves.
Yan Feifan saw a winding groove inside.
Song Yi explained, "This groove is for seating the infusion tube."
"This is the heating element; the temperature can be freely adjusted between thirty-five and forty degrees."
"This is an optical sensor that measures the infusion speed in real time."
"This is a clamp. If it detects any blood backflow, it activates immediately and pinches the infusion tube shut."
"The control chip is in here."
"This large block here is the battery."
"On a full charge, it can operate continuously for sixteen hours while heating at forty degrees."
After explaining the internal components of the controller, Song Yi pointed to the LCD touchscreen on its exterior.
"The screen displays the infusion speed, temperature, and a dynamic countdown timer for the estimated completion time."
"You can also set a desired total infusion time, and it will automatically adjust the drip rate to match."
Song Yi continued, "The controller also has a built-in Bluetooth module that can connect to an app on a computer or smartphone."
"Patients can use a touch button to send an alert to the nursing staff."
"When the infusion is nearly finished, the controller will automatically sound an alert and also send a notification via Bluetooth to the nursing staff’s computers or phones..."
Yan Feifan nodded repeatedly. Once Song Yi had finished explaining all the features, he asked, "Song Yi, these functions are excellent. What about the cost?"
Song Yi countered with a question, "Why don’t you two take a guess?"
Yan Feifan shook his head. "How could I possibly guess? Just tell me."
Song Yi chuckled. "Feifan, Ruoruo, the cost is closely tied to the production volume."
"The cost for just these two prototypes was over a million."
"Once we finalize all the specifications for the prototype and have an OEM factory handle mass production..."
"I’ve run some preliminary calculations. For a first batch of one million units, we can get the combined R&D and manufacturing cost down to under sixty yuan per unit."
"Sixty yuan... that’s not expensive. The cost is acceptable."
Yan Feifan said, a little worried, "Song Yi, a million units... isn’t that a bit too many for the first run?"
Song Yi explained with a helpless expression, "Feifan, it’s our first collaboration, and it’s a new product. One million is the minimum order quantity for a large-scale OEM factory with a quality guarantee."
"If we were to build our own factory, it would take a long time and a lot of effort, not to mention the costs would be even higher..."
