Possessive & Addicted: The CEO Could Never Let Her Go
Chapter 857: Chasing Her Husband Through the Flames of Regret
Firebird never would’ve expected Mu Anhan to bring up the matter of Xue Xiangtong returning to the team to work.
"Mrs. Gu, I might as well be straight with you. I’m not going to let her take part in team operations again, mainly for her own safety."
This criminal was way too cunning and highly capable. If anything happened to Xue Xiangtong, how was he supposed to answer to Mu Anhan?
Firebird of course knew that Xue Xiangtong was Mu Anhan’s good friend.
Mu Anhan nodded. "What I’m worried about is that even if she’s no longer in the team, she might still go off and do this on her own. The consequences of that could be even more serious."
When Firebird heard this, his expression changed slightly as well.
If it were him on unpaid leave, he might also be unwilling to accept it and go investigate the case on his own.
"Thank you for the heads-up, Mrs. Gu. I’ll keep an eye on this and handle it as appropriate." Firebird got ready to leave. "Mrs. Gu, anything else?"
"Nope, thanks for making the trip." Mu Anhan walked him to the office door.
Firebird’s tone was calm and distant. "Mrs. Gu, you can stop here. I’m off."
Mu Anhan watched his departing back, and it actually looked a bit like Pei Zhe’s.
But Firebird’s face was completely different from Pei Zhe’s.
Mu Anhan couldn’t help sinking into thought. What on earth had happened? How could one person’s facial features be completely different?
It wasn’t until her phone rang that Mu Anhan snapped out of it.
She glanced at the screen. It was a call from Miao Feishuang. "Han Han, how are things on your end?"
"Everything’s fine on my side," Mu Anhan said. "What about you? After I took you out for a drive last night, did Vice Marshal Lu change at all?"
Miao Feishuang sounded a bit embarrassed. "Can’t really tell yet. He just said he’d be spending more time at home."
"That’s good too. Feelings grow over time between husband and wife." Mu Anhan still felt there was hope.
"Grow... over time?" Miao Feishuang snorted. "We haven’t even shared a bed yet!"
Mu Anhan: "..."
"But I did get to watch quite a show. Someone once swore up and down they’d never in this lifetime fall for a certain person, and now they’re slapping their own face and loving every minute of it!" Miao Feishuang was laughing so hard on the other end she couldn’t stop. "Is this what they call growing feelings over time? You probably went home last night and ceded territory and paid reparations, right? Why do I get the feeling you’ve entered the ’chasing husband after crematorium’ stage?"
Mu Anhan laughed too. She snorted proudly. "My husband is not someone I need to chase."
"By the way, you still going out ’fishing’ these days?" Miao Feishuang asked her.
"Not anymore." Even if she did go, Mu Anhan wouldn’t bring Miao Feishuang along.
After all, Miao Feishuang was her blood cousin. She didn’t want to see Miao Feishuang put herself in danger.
Miao Feishuang grew a bit anxious. "But the criminal hasn’t been caught yet. I think he’ll strike again."
"My husband’s keeping a close watch. I can’t get out these days," Mu Anhan told her.
Miao Feishuang: "..."
"And you don’t go acting on your own either. I’ve crossed paths with that guy. He’s tough." Mu Anhan warned her.
"I’m not that stupid, I’m not about to walk right into his hands," Miao Feishuang sighed.
She just wanted to help Firebird.
But for the moment, she couldn’t think of any good way to do it.
"Don’t dwell on it. Just focus on living happily with Vice Marshal Lu," Mu Anhan said with a smile. "After all, catching bad guys is the police’s job. And dealing with Pei Wei isn’t something that can be done in a short time."
