Chapter 111: Chapter 111: Wu Jing’s Invitation

Wei Feng smiled apologetically and said, "President Wu, this was all rather sudden. We contacted Wu Jing this morning, and I didn’t expect him to decide to fly straight to Modu. He wants to host a dinner for us to discuss the investment."

Wei Feng continued, "According to our recent investigation, Wu Jing approached thirty different investors to fund *Wolf Warrior*, but not one was willing. Only his good friend Lü Jianming, the owner of Spring and Autumn Era Film Company, invested fifty million, but that’s nowhere near enough to cover the filming costs. Now that he’s heard someone is willing to invest in his movie, he couldn’t wait to fly over."

Wei Feng refilled Wu Yun’s cup with fresh tea before asking, "President Wu, how much do you think we should invest?"

Wu Yun looked down at the script in his hands, but his mind began to wander.

’He recalled how in his past life, Wu Jing had mortgaged his eighty-million-yuan mansion to fund the movie. On top of that, mortgage loans were usually capped at eighty percent of a property’s value.’

’Calculating at eighty percent, that’s sixty-four million.’

’After that, there was no news of any other major capital injection for *Wolf Warrior*. So, putting other factors aside, fifty million is the most suitable investment amount for now. If more is needed later, we can add to it, but even then, it probably won’t be much more.’

"President Wei, I reckon an investment of around fifty million should be enough," Wu Yun said after a moment of thought.

Wei Feng’s expression remained unchanged, but he was thoroughly impressed. The fifty million investment figure was almost exactly what he had estimated.

’It took me years of experience and a multi-faceted assessment to arrive at that number,’ he thought. ’I have no idea how Wu Yun came up with it.’

"Alright! We’ll go with what President Wu says, then. Oh, by the way, President Wu, would you like to come with me tonight? You could bring your girlfriend along, too. It’s a good chance to build some connections! The only thing is, there will probably be some drinking involved," Wei Feng asked with a smile.

The mere mention of drinking gave Wu Yun a headache. He’d only just recovered from his last blackout. Still, he considered the opportunity to build connections for Qi Fei, not to mention his own curiosity about seeing a movie star in a private setting.

Wu Yun said with a wry smile, "This Wu Jing sure knows how to pick his moments!"

Wei Feng was a little confused. "Why? Does President Wu have something else scheduled for tonight?"

Wu Yun shook his head and then recounted the story of how he was drunk under the table by the branch manager of Little Red Car the previous night.

"What a talent! Our company needs people like that!" Wei Feng joked. "President Wu, can we get that branch manager from Little Red Car to transfer over? That kind of talent is a rare commodity!"

Wu Yun laughed and said, "Don’t even think about it! If President Li Qiuliang of Little Red Car found out I was encouraging you to poach his staff, he’d probably fly to Modu to kill me. Little Red Car’s plans in Modu are about to launch, so Phoenix Entertainment might even be able to cooperate with them in the future."

Something suddenly occurred to Wu Yun. "By the way, President Wei, I hear Wu Jing can really drink?"

Wei Feng nodded as if it were a matter of course and said seriously, "When it comes to the drinking tolerance of celebrities in the entertainment industry, Wu Jing is at least in the top three. That’s the word on the street, anyway. I’ve never witnessed it myself, though."

Hearing this, Wu Yun bought some hangover prevention medicine from the System Store. While its effects wouldn’t exactly let him drink a thousand cups without falling, it would at least allow him to down a liter or two without any problems, and with no harm to his body.

This was a private dinner, after all. It would be improper to bring along someone from PR.

"Alright, President Wei. Where’s it at tonight? I’ll give Qi Fei a call and let her know."

Wei Feng picked up his phone, scrolled through his notes, and said, "We’ve booked a spot at Vase Banquet. The address is 281, Building 1, West Gate 1, Yu Cui Garden, on Fangdian Road. It’s one of the top private kitchens in Modu. I’ve already sent the address to your phone, President Wu!"

Wu Yun nodded and held up his phone, indicating he was about to make the call.

In a small, tiered lecture hall at the Modu Drama Academy, a play was being performed on the stage. As one of the actors, Qi Fei delivered her lines naturally, her expressions and movements perfectly matching the character she was portraying, earning nods of approval from her instructor.

Just then, the phone in Qi Fei’s bag on her front-row seat began to vibrate. It kept buzzing, and as soon as it stopped, it started right up again.

Song Qin, sitting next to her, was getting annoyed by the distraction and couldn’t focus on the performance. So, she reached over, grabbed Qi Fei’s bag, and took out the phone for her.

Seeing the caller ID "Xiaoyunzi," Song Qin’s expression softened. She tapped a "Busy now" auto-reply for Qi Fei and put the phone back.

A few minutes later, Qi Fei came down from the stage and returned to her seat.

Song Qin whispered, "Feifei, your Xiaoyunzi called you twice in a row. It must be something important. I declined the call and sent a reply for you."

Qi Fei was taken aback for a moment, then took out her phone. Sure enough, there were two missed calls.

’Wu Yun usually only calls me around noon or in the evening,’ she thought. ’He wouldn’t interrupt my classes unless it was something important.’

Qi Fei quietly slipped out of the classroom through the back door and called Wu Yun back. "Xiaoyunzi, what’s up?"

Although Wu Yun’s voice sounded calm, Qi Fei could still detect a hint of excitement. "I need you to come with me to a private banquet tonight. Wu Jing is hosting. I want to introduce you around. I’m preparing to invest in his film and want to see if I can get you a suitable role."

On the other end of the line, Wu Yun felt a headache coming on. ’I’m not sure if Qi Fei’s temperament is a match for a military-themed war movie. I’ve never seen her perform that style, and while her acting skills are solid, some actors are just like that—great in modern dramas, but they just feel... slightly off in period pieces. I don’t want her to be miscast.’

Hearing Wu Yun’s words, Qi Fei couldn’t help but beam with joy.

She was serious about her acting, so when she heard Wu Yun say she could meet an industry veteran, get a chance at a role—and a big-screen role at that—Qi Fei wished she could be by his side that very instant to reward him with a couple of big kisses.

’Okay, that’s it,’ she decided. ’I have no desire to sit through the rest of this acting class. Rather than watch my classmates’ mediocre performances, I’d much rather leave early, find Wu Yun, and go meet an industry veteran with him to broaden my horizons.’

After chatting with Wu Yun for a few more moments and asking for the basic details, Qi Fei returned to her seat and began to pack her books and bag.

Song Qin, who was sitting next to her, asked curiously, "Feifei, what happened? Are you leaving early?"

Qi Fei leaned in and whispered in Song Qin’s ear, "Xiaoyunzi asked me to go with him tonight to meet an industry veteran. I saw the address is pretty far, so I’d better head to his company early."

’Qi Fei understood the need for discretion. Before Wu Yun and the others had finalized their deal, anything could happen. If she ran her mouth and bragged about it, not only would she be leaking a trade secret, but if she didn’t end up getting the role, she’d become a laughingstock. One should never underestimate the jealousy of the little bitches in her class.’
