Reborn as a Landlord
Chapter 1755 - 895: The Stay-at-Home Dad and Little Uncle
Lian Manman glanced at Wu Jiaxing, then smiled at Lian Zhizhi. Lian Zhizhi was naturally very affectionate and doting towards her son, and Wu Jiaxing is a very responsible young "stay-at-home dad." Whenever he’s home, he eagerly handles all of Dabao’s needs, like changing clothes, coaxing him to play or sleep, and even happily washing his diapers. Although there are servants at home, these tasks don’t require him to do them personally.
Every time Dabao goes out, he carries a basket filled with all his essentials. If Wu Jiaxing is with him, no one else carries the basket; Wu Jiaxing does it himself. Just like today, the servants, Xiao Mei and Xiao Lan, are only in charge of holding Lian Zhizhi and Wu Jiaxing’s clothing packages.
In short, anything related to Dabao, Wu Jiaxing is very willing to handle himself. As people gossip, everything about Dabao is delightful to his father, Wu Jiaxing.
"Manman, don’t keep holding him," Lian Zhizhi said smilingly to Lian Manman. "Don’t be fooled by his small size; he’s quite heavy. We’re all accustomed to holding him, and now he’s gotten used to it. Let him lie on the bed for a while."
"It’s okay, I’ll hold him; he doesn’t feel heavy," Lian Manman said, playing with Dabao.
"What’s wrong with him not wanting to be alone," Lady Zhang, hearing Lian Zhizhi’s words, turned around and said, "We have so many people, it’s not like we’re short-handed, unable to find the time. If Dabao likes to be held, then hold him."
Lady Zhang was completely the kind of grandmother who spoils her grandchildren without principles. Lian Zhizhi and Lian Manman exchanged a glance and both burst into smiles.
"When Wu Lang gets married and has kids, just imagine how our mother will spoil them," Lian Zhizhi whispered to Lian Manman.
"I can definitely imagine it," Lian Manman nodded with a smile.
After playing with Dabao for a while, Lian Manman laid a small mattress on the bed, placed a little pillow, and put Dabao down, only gently shaking a rattle to entertain him. The chubby baby’s dark eyes followed the rattle, giggling, with his small hands and feet wildly dancing, wanting to grab the rattle to play himself.
At once, the sound of the rattle, Dabao’s laughter, and the ringing of the silver bells on his ankle bracelet blended into a joyful noise.
Lian Zhizhi asked Wu Jiaxing to bring over another basket, which contained some fresh fruits, a small jar of Jinhua Wine, two packs of delicate pastries, along with a pair of shoes Lian Zhizhi had made for Lian Shouxin and Lady Zhang, and embroidery gifts for Lian Manman, Wu Lang, Xiao Qi, Xiao Long, and Xiao Hu.
"We live so close, yet you bring things every time you visit. The Mid-Autumn Festival is just around the corner," Lady Zhang remarked, implying that with the festival approaching, Lian Zhizhi would need to prepare gifts again, so there was no need to bring so much now.
The two families lived nearby, and when Lian Zhizhi had free time, she often returned home to visit. Every time she did, regardless of the quantity, she’d bring some gifts, often coordinated by Lady Wu Wang and Wu Jiaxing.
Of course, Lian Manman’s family frequently sent gifts to the Wu family as well, including fresh fruits and vegetables, fresh fish and shrimp, and items bought from County City and Prefecture City, such as fabric, food, and toys, always ensuring Lian Zhizhi received a portion.
This truly embodies the saying "two goodnesses make one happiness."
"It’s not anything particularly special," Lian Zhizhi said, "Let’s talk about the Mid-Autumn Festival when it arrives."
Hearing this, Lady Zhang did not pursue the topic further. The two mothers then continued their casual conversation.
"Has there been any news from Jiayu lately? Will she be able to come and stay a bit longer during the festival?" Lian Manman asked Wu Jiaxing and Lian Zhizhi while entertaining Dabao.
Earlier this year, Wu Jiayu got married. Wu Jiayu’s marriage was arranged long before by Wu Yugui and Lady Wu Wang with a family in Lady Wu Wang’s native village, a family named Li, with some distant relation to Lady Wu Wang’s own kin. The Li family is also wealthy locally, and both families had agreed that after Wu Jiaxing’s wedding, Wu Jiayu would be married off.
When Wu Jiayu got married, Dabao had already been born and was in his adorably soft stage. Wu Jiayu was very reluctant to leave her nephew.
The Wu family prepared a generous dowry for Wu Jiayu. Lady Wu Wang, following her previous words, gave some bottom-of-the-chest jewelry to Wu Jiayu as part of the dowry, perhaps due to a mindset shift with the arrival of a grandson. The jewelry given was far less than what had been originally promised to Lian Zhizhi.
Wu Jiayu didn’t contest it. Instead, feeling bad, Lian Zhizhi selected some fabric and jewelry from her own savings to supplement Wu Jiayu’s dowry.
Wu Jiayu was naturally grateful to Lian Zhizhi, and the joy and gratitude from Wu Yugui, Lady Wu Wang, and Wu Jiaxing went without saying.
"Wu Jiayu sent word yesterday, saying she might try to come stay for a couple of days after the festival," Wu Jiaxing replied with a smile. "That Jinhua Wine was sent over by her; she sent two jars, one my father kept, and this one she asked me to bring to my father-in-law to try, saying it’s quite good."
"I miss Jiayu a bit too," Lian Zhizhi said. "There’s really nothing to criticize about Jiayu’s marriage, except it’s a bit far, and we can’t see each other often."
Lian Zhizhi and Wu Jiayu had a great sister-in-law relationship, known even beyond their village as exemplary. Lian Zhizhi was accommodating, and Wu Jiayu was gentle; they had never had a fight.
Lady Zhang didn’t say anything, but her heart was full of gratitude. Comparison makes these things apparent, and she felt the marriage with Lian Zhizhi was indeed a good match.
After chatting for a while, Lady Zhang once again cradled Dabao in her arms. Lian Yeye also teased Dabao for a bit, then noticing it was late according to the Chinese hour, decided to leave. Not long after Lian Yeye left, Lian Shouxin returned from outside.
Lian Zhizhi and Wu Jiaxing greeted him, paying their respects and offering regards.
Lian Shouxin, with a cheerful expression, briskly entered the house, heading straight for Dabao.
"...You should wash and change your clothes first," Lady Zhang said teasingly, using her arm to stop Lian Shouxin from rushing to hold his grandson.
Dabao recognized Lian Shouxin as his grandfather, bubbling with giggles while reaching his small hands out towards Lian Shouxin.
```
"Dear grandson..." Lian Shouxin chuckled as he went to wash up and changed his clothes, then came back to hug Dabao, "Haven’t seen you for a few days, my dear grandson seems to have gotten chubbier... chubby is good... haha..."
Lian Shouxin used the stubble on his chin to poke Dabao’s face, and Dabao giggled while flailing about in Lian Shouxin’s arms.
"Don’t go back later, just eat here," Lady Zhang discussed with Lian Zhizhi, "Didn’t Jiaxing just say your father-in-law probably won’t make it back for lunch, and your mother-in-law has to stay for a meal at that house."
"Yeah, we’re not going back," Lian Zhizhi nodded.
Lady Zhang happily called Han Zhong’s wife, who manages the kitchen, and instructed her to prepare a sumptuous lunch, specifically mentioning a few dishes that Lian Zhizhi and Wu Jiaxing love, asking the kitchen to prepare them.
"...Prepare a few more dishes that go well with wine, Jiaxing is free today, we, father and son, will have a drink," Lian Shouxin said.
"Right, Jiaxing brought you a jar of wine, you two can drink it at lunch," Lady Zhang replied.
As noon approached, Xiao Qi, Xiao Long, and Xiao Hu returned from school. Xiao Qi had already learned outside that Wu Jiaxing and Lian Zhizhi had brought Dabao back, so he ran in from outside the yard. At this moment, Dabao had been passed to Lady Zhang. The little child had sharp ears and heard Xiao Qi’s voice in the yard, so he looked out the window and babbled.
"Uncle... uncle... little uncle..."
Xiao Qi heard Dabao calling him from the outer room and responded joyfully, running into the room.
"Dabao..." Xiao Qi jumped in front of Lady Zhang, smiling at Dabao.
"Little... uncle..." Dabao’s dark eyes were filled with laughter, and his little body struggled to break free from Lady Zhang, lunging towards Xiao Qi.
"They’re the closest," Lady Zhang laughed, carefully handing Dabao to Xiao Qi, cautioning him to hold him properly.
Dabao nestled into Xiao Qi’s arms, grabbed onto Xiao Qi’s neck, and drooled all over Xiao Qi’s face. Xiao Qi laughed heartily, Dabao giggled, both uncle and nephew were incredibly happy.
Afterwards, Xiao Long and Xiao Hu also entered the room, making it even more lively.
Dabao strolled around on the ground with Xiao Qi holding him for a while, then suddenly showed a somewhat strange expression on his little delighted face, and Xiao Qi immediately felt warmth in his arms.
"Well... Dabao seems to have... peed," Xiao Qi said with a twitch in his mouth.
"He did, he did," Xiao Long and Xiao Hu approached to check, and instantly burst into laughter.
"Quickly, bring him over," Lady Zhang exclaimed, while instructing Xiao Long and Xiao Hu, "As uncles, you can’t laugh at him, can’t you see he’s pouting?"
Lian Manman looked, and indeed, though Dabao had peed, it wasn’t a big deal, but once Xiao Long and Xiao Hu laughed, the little guy began to feel a bit aggrieved.
Xiao Qi hurriedly brought Dabao over and handed him to Lian Zhizhi, then looked at his own clothes and found a large patch had indeed gotten wet. 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
"Haha," Lian Manman laughed, "Dabao seems to pick Xiao Qi to pee on, haha, how many times has it been?"
"The third time," Xiao Qi said helplessly.
"Dabao likes his little uncle the best," Lady Zhang also laughed, urging Xiao Qi to quickly change clothes.
"...After a couple of days, when sister has some free time, she’ll make you a new robe," Lian Zhizhi had deftly removed the wet diaper from Dabao and used a cloth dipped in warm water to wipe Dabao’s little bottom, then changed him into a clean diaper.
Throughout the process, Wu Jiaxing was assisting nearby, handing over cloths and diapers, and in the end, was even holding the wet diaper to go wash it in a basin.
Seeing him act so naturally and skillfully, it was clear he had done it more than once before.
"Put it down, put it down, there’s someone to wash it," Lady Zhang quickly smiled and intervened.
After peeing, Dabao got hungry. Although Lian Zhizhi had become a mother, she still retained a bit of bashfulness, so she took Dabao to Lian Manman’s room to nurse him. Lian Manman wanted to follow her, but Xiao Qi had already changed his clothes and returned.
"Dad, I want to tell you something."
