Reborn with Nothing but My Farm and Vengeance in the Apocalypse
Chapter 346: Epiphany
’If I can be reborn, then why can’t Sylvia Lancaster?’
At the thought, a chill ran down Melody Summers’ spine—
If Sylvia Lancaster really was reborn, then everything that didn’t make sense until now could be explained.
’No wonder...’
’No wonder Sylvia Lancaster came to my door before, crying and begging to have apartment 1606 back.’
’She was reborn. She knew that after the extreme cold of the blizzard would come the flood. The south and east districts of the city would be submerged, which is why she was in such a hurry to get this apartment back!’
As Melody Summers thought about all the things Sylvia Lancaster had done to her in their past life, her gaze turned icy—the Sylvia Lancaster of today was the one who had truly gotten her killed before!
Meanwhile, after sending her message to Melody Summers, Lucy White stared at her phone’s screen and sighed silently.
Her phone was filled with messages from Joanne White’s father and mother.
After Joanne White’s miscarriage last night, she hadn’t even had a chance to rest before security guards forcibly removed her from The Nimbus Hotel and sent her back to the White Family’s home.
In truth, Lucy White knew this was the best possible outcome.
The Simmons Family was rich and powerful, and Paige Walsh was a core research scientist who had just been commended by the state. For Joanne White to dare pull something like this in the Simmonses’ territory, to dare add an allergen to Paige Walsh’s food, was unbelievably audacious. 𝐟𝗿𝐞𝚎𝚠𝐞𝚋𝕟𝐨𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝕔𝕠𝚖
If Zane Simmons had been more ruthless, he would have called the police directly. In that case, Joanne White probably wouldn’t have made it home at all.
The only reason Zane Simmons showed her mercy was likely out of consideration for the fact that Joanne White had borne him a child.
But Joanne White’s parents simply couldn’t accept this result.
Even though Lucy White had called and explained the situation to them yesterday, they were still sending a constant stream of messages.
First were the messages from Mr. White:
"Lucy, please ask Mr. Simmons to investigate again. Your cousin has been so well-behaved ever since she got with him. There’s no way she would do the things you said!"
"Lucy, are you hiding something from us? Your cousin was fine before. This wasn’t her first time having a baby, so why would she suddenly have a miscarriage?"
"Lucy, Joanne is back home now, so why did Mr. Simmons have you stay at The Nimbus Hotel by yourself? Tell your uncle the truth, has Mr. Simmons taken a liking to you?"
"Lucy, if that’s the case, could you talk to Mr. Simmons? For the sake of the son Joanne bore him, ask him to send those two bodyguards back."
"Ever since those two bodyguards Mr. Simmons sent left, some of the neighbors in our complex have been eyeing us like prey. I’m afraid they’ll break in and steal our supplies!"
"Lucy, for the sake of your uncle and aunt who have always been pretty good to you, please help the family think of something! Your uncle can’t even close his eyes to sleep right now!"
"..."
Then there were the messages from Mrs. White:
"You damn girl, how the hell were you taking care of your cousin? She was perfectly fine, so how did she suddenly have a miscarriage? Did you do it on purpose?"
"You damn girl, your cousin is already home, what are you still doing over at Mr. Simmons’s place?! Get your ass back here now! Your cousin needs someone to take care of her, so you come back and do it!"
"You damn girl, don’t tell me you actually seduced Mr. Simmons? ...So that’s how it is... You little slut! I knew you were no good from the start!"
"You little slut, was it you who incited your cousin to do those things? You were just jealous she found a good man, weren’t you? Did you deliberately set her up so you could take her place?"
"You animal! Our family was kind enough to take you in, but you bit the hand that feeds you! If there’s any justice in this world, a bolt of lightning should strike you dead, you heartless creature!"
"You little beast, you’re the one who ruined my Joanne! Just you wait. If I ever see you again, I’ll beat you to death and avenge my unborn grandson!"
"..."
Reading these messages, Lucy White’s head began to throb.
She knew it. No matter how she tried to explain, her uncle and aunt would inevitably blame her for what happened to Joanne White.
Now she couldn’t even go back to the White Family home. Her only option was to stay at The Nimbus Hotel for the time being.
Given her current status, she wasn’t one of the Simmonss, nor could she be considered a guest of the Simmons Family. Staying here like this was incredibly awkward for her.
Besides, now that Joanne White was gone, would Zane Simmons bring another one of his flings here? Her situation would only become more awkward then...
Thinking about this, Lucy White wiped her face, her mind a mess.
She felt like her thoughts were a tangled mess, and she couldn’t make sense of anything.
Suddenly, a pang of hunger interrupted her thoughts. She realized she hadn’t eaten anything since last night.
Lucy White stood up, opened her door, and decided to go to the kitchen to find something to fill her stomach.
But just as she stepped out of her room, she saw Zane Simmons slouched on a sofa in the adjacent tea lounge, drinking.
When Zane Simmons saw Lucy White come out of her room, he glanced up at her before lowering his head to drink again.
The instant their eyes met, Lucy White felt her scalp tighten!
After a moment’s thought, she forced herself to walk over and said to Zane Simmons, "Mr. Simmons, about last night, I’m so sorry..."
Zane Simmons was sprawled on the sofa, swirling a glass in his hand. Two empty bottles sat on the table in front of him; he’d clearly been drinking a lot.
Hearing Lucy White speak, he looked up at her again, his eyes hazy with drunkenness.
Seeing the guilt and awkwardness written all over Lucy White’s face, Zane Simmons chuckled lightly. He then waved his hand dismissively and said, "It’s fine... I know your cousin did everything. It has nothing to do with you."
Seeing Lucy White still standing there hesitantly, Zane Simmons sighed and added, "Alright, my mom isn’t the type to blame innocent people. Don’t worry about it. And don’t just lock yourself up in your room. You can relax a bit."
"...At the end of the day, you’re my child’s aunt. Just stay here for now. After the blizzard ends, I’ll help you find a new place to live."
When Lucy White heard him say this, the weight that had been pressing on her heart finally lifted.
’Since Zane Simmons acknowledges me as the child’s aunt, that means I have a family connection to the Simmonses now. My situation will naturally be better from now on...’
Lucy White was just about to excuse herself and go find food in the kitchen when she heard Zane Simmons speak again. "Yesterday... my mom said I was dirty... Lucy White, do all you women despise men like me, who get tangled up with so many women..."
Paige Walsh’s slap last night seemed to have woken Zane Simmons up. He suddenly realized he’d always been a rotten person, just like his father.
He had always used "not getting married" as a shield, believing that as long as he stayed single, as long as all his relationships were consensual transactions of pleasure, then he wasn’t being irresponsible when it came to romance.
But Paige Walsh’s words yesterday had brutally ripped away Zane Simmons’s facade.
Zane Simmons realized with a touch of despair that he had indeed inherited his father’s genes completely. He was starting to get tangled up with many women, just like his father, Bernard Simmons.
Zane Simmons suddenly remembered when he was young, his mother had once held his hand and told him to treat his future wife well, not to become like his father, not to chase after woman after woman like his father, and not to become an animal ruled by arrogance and desire.
So, what must Paige Walsh have been feeling all these years, watching him turn into the same kind of man as his father?
Zane Simmons thought for a long time. In the end, he decided to break up with all his lovers.
He gave them generous severance packages and supplies, and told them not to contact him again.
Zane Simmons’s voice was low, soft, and tinged with drunkenness, but it carried clearly to Lucy White’s ears.
