Reborn with Nothing but My Farm and Vengeance in the Apocalypse
Chapter 367
Seeing the fanatical stubbornness in Mrs. Sutton’s eyes, Mr. Sutton fell silent.
He knew his wife had suffered one major blow after another in recent months. And hadn’t he, too?
First, the death of their younger son, Elias Sutton. Then the miscarriage of their "grandson," only to later discover the "grandson" wasn’t even of the Sutton bloodline. And now, this had happened to their older son, Ethan Sutton...
Losing a son and a grandson one after the other was enough to break anyone, to cause a complete mental collapse. And when a person’s mind is unstable, they subconsciously seek something to cling to for spiritual support.
That was why she had grown to trust the so-called Mr. Caelus more and more, clutching his words like a lifeline.
Mr. Sutton could understand his wife’s perspective, but...
Still, he couldn’t accept letting a strange woman just move into their home.
He hesitated for a moment before asking, "We only bought so much food. It might not even be enough for the three of us..."
"...There’s a blizzard raging outside, so it’s too late to buy more. If we just let her move in... what if we run out of food?"
Since Sutton Enterprises went bankrupt, the Sutton family had lost all its former glory. They were now just living off their savings.
A while ago, they sold their villa in a prime downtown location and moved to The Metropolis Residences. Although they still had some savings, they were quickly draining their reserves.
To prepare for the blizzard, they had to use a large portion of their savings to hoard enough food and fuel, finally stocking up on enough supplies for the three of them to last half a year.
Seeing their savings dwindle, Mr. Sutton was growing truly panicked.
There was no telling how long this blizzard would last. The supplies they had stockpiled might not even be enough for the three of them. Now, with Joanne White added to the mix, it was just making a bad situation worse.
Hearing this, Mrs. Sutton replied nonchalantly, "It’s fine. The Goddess is just one girl, and she’s so thin. How much could she possibly eat? A couple of bowls of rice a day will be more than enough!"
Mr. Sutton still sounded hesitant. "...It’s not just the food. She’ll be in her own room, which means our heating costs will suddenly jump by fifty percent... The coal we bought might not be enough..."
Mr. Sutton’s worries were justified. With Joanne White occupying the spare guest room, the number of rooms needing heat jumped from two to three. The energy consumption would increase drastically, and the fuel they had stored might not be sufficient.
But Mrs. Sutton was in no mood to listen to any of this.
Right now, all she could think about was Ethan finally being able to have a child!
She was a mother. She couldn’t just stand by and watch her son remain so dejected!
Looking at Mr. Sutton trying to talk her down, Mrs. Sutton’s brow furrowed. She demanded, "Sean Sutton, what are you trying to say?! I braved the snow and traveled a long way to personally bring the Goddess back here today!"
"Who am I doing all this for? Isn’t it for the Sutton family line? Isn’t it to give your son an heir? And now you’re standing here making all these excuses... Are you blaming me?!"
Mrs. Sutton’s eyebrows shot up in anger as she said resentfully, "Fine, fine! Since you don’t care about the Sutton family line, why should I, an outsider, care at all!"
"I’ll send the Goddess away right now, and from now on, I won’t get involved in any of the Sutton family’s business! Once this disaster is over, I’m going back to my parents’ house! I won’t stay here and be an eyesore to you!"
With that, she stormed toward the bedroom door.
Seeing this, Mr. Sutton quickly stepped forward to block her path. "Hey, hey, don’t be so rash! That’s not what I meant!"
Mrs. Sutton looked up at her husband, snorted coldly, and asked, "Weren’t you blaming me for bringing the Goddess here without asking? Now I’m going to send her away, and you’re not happy about it?"
Mr. Sutton thought for a moment before finally sighing. "Alright, she’s already here. Don’t send her back..."
Mr. Sutton was now half-believing and half-doubting this Mr. Caelus.
Although he subconsciously felt he shouldn’t be superstitious, Mr. Caelus had simply predicted too many things successfully. Whether it was the time and place of the volcanic eruption in the country or the exact dates it would be sunny or start snowing, he had foretold it all down to the minute.
If this so-called "Goddess" could truly bring about a "miracle," give Ethan a son, and allow the Sutton family line to continue, then Mr. Sutton was willing to let her stay.
Seeing Mr. Sutton nod, Mrs. Sutton snorted again. "Good, as long as you understand! Let me tell you, this Goddess is our only chance to have a grandchild. Don’t you go and do something foolish..."
"Alright, stop blocking the way. Move. I’m going to make the Goddess a bowl of chicken noodle soup. She needs to build up her strength. Look how weak she is. If we don’t get her healthy, how is she supposed to give us a grandson..."
After speaking, Mrs. Sutton picked up another down jacket, left the bedroom, and went to the kitchen.
The Suttons had set up three storage racks in the kitchen, piled high with all sorts of ingredients. Bags of meat, rice, and flour were stacked together, each one as precious as Gold.
To preserve the food, the kitchen was kept very cold. Mrs. Sutton quickly put on her down jacket, then took a chicken from the rack and began to CHOP-CHOP-CHOP it on the cutting board...
Once the fragrant bowl of chicken noodle soup was ready, Mrs. Sutton clapped her hands in satisfaction, preparing to take it to Joanne White.
But just as she turned around, she saw her son, Ethan Sutton, standing silently at the kitchen doorway. 𝒇𝓻𝓮𝓮𝙬𝙚𝒃𝒏𝓸𝙫𝒆𝙡.𝓬𝓸𝒎
Seeing him, Mrs. Sutton quickly pointed to the chicken noodle soup on the table and said to Ethan, "Perfect timing! Quick, take this bowl of noodles to Miss White!"
’Joanne White is going to have Ethan’s child anyway,’ Mrs. Sutton thought. ’It’s not a bad idea for them to start building a connection now.’
But to her surprise, Ethan frowned, shook his head, and said, "I’m not going! Mom, why did you suddenly bring a strange woman home? Where do we have the spare resources to support someone else right now?"
After speaking, Ethan glanced at the bowl of noodles on the table.
His frown deepened when he saw the large chunks of chicken inside. "You’re giving her a whole chicken?! ...Yesterday, I said I wanted to eat chicken, and you told me our stockpiled supplies were barely enough and we had to be frugal. Why are you giving chicken to an outsider now?!"
Hearing this, Mrs. Sutton pursed her lips and said to Ethan, "You silly boy, Mom is doing all of this for you..."
With that, Mrs. Sutton pulled Ethan close and whispered the whole story in his ear.
"...Miss White is going to give you a son. She’s weak right now, so how can she not eat well? Hurry up and take the chicken noodle soup to Miss White. Go build a good relationship with her so your father and I can have a grandson as soon as possible!"
The moment she finished speaking, Ethan blurted out in disbelief, "Mom! Have you lost your mind?! How can you believe such superstitious nonsense?!"
Ethan stared at his mother in shock, his mind reeling in disbelief. ’The "New God’s Gifted Fetus"? That’s completely ridiculous!’
Hearing this, Mrs. Sutton looked at Ethan with displeasure. "You child, what are you shouting about? When have Mr. Caelus’s words ever been wrong? Since he said the Goddess can continue our family line, then she definitely can! ...Enough. Stop with this nonsense. The noodles are getting cold. Hurry up and take them to the Goddess!"
