Chapter 42: The Blueprint of Trust

The next day, the morning light filtered through the window.

I was lying on my back and enjoying the sleeping beauty in my arms.

Nyssa was sleeping soundly.

Her head was resting softly on my chest. I could feel her steady, rhythmic breath. Life felt peaceful.

’Ah! This peace feels nice.’

After last night, my rewards were due.

I opened up my Status Window to look for my rewards.

The interface materialized.

[A/N: It will be a long status panel and might be boring to read, but contains all his stats and skills. In the next Chapters, only necessary information will be used.]

[Titles Acquired]

>[Goblin Leader’s Aura (Lvl 1)]: Passively amplifies Charm stat when issuing commands. Lower-tier monsters will instinctively lower their gaze in your presence.

>[Taint the Virgin]: Passively increases Charm effectiveness and Submission generation by 20% when interacting with previously uncorrupted or highly disciplined targets.

>[Enemy of the Throne]: Infamy marker denoting extreme hostility with the Zenith Academy and Royal Nobility.

>[Intimacy Master]: Sleeping in the same bed as a conquered target now doubles the Host’s natural health and mana regeneration rates. It completely negates the need for traditional sleep to clear the "Fatigue" status.

>[Virgin Slayer]: When initiating combat or a social debate with an opponent who possesses zero prior combat or romantic experience, your Charm and Perception stats are temporarily boosted by 15%.

>[Deluge Bringer]: Grants a minor, passive affinity for fluid dynamics. Reduces the stamina cost of fluid motion skills like [Serpentine Shift] by 10% and provides an intuitive understanding of liquid and steam pressure.

[Active & Passive Skills]

>[Sharp Eye] (Passive): Visual processing speed permanently increased by 20%. Spots subtle muscle twitches, hidden weapons, and structural weaknesses.

>[Serpentine Shift (Lvl 1)]: Temporarily relaxes joints and ligaments to unnaturally slip past physical force.

>[Subtle Touch]: Physical contact is registered as a natural, non-threatening brush, lowering target guard and amplifying lust by 50%.

>[The Sovereign’s Conduit (Lvl 1)]: Allows inhalation of ambient mana, instantly shifting its frequency to convert into Martial Aura or Arcane Magic at will.

>[Phantom Tread (Lvl 1)]: Muffles physical sounds and slightly bends ambient shadows to obscure silhouette.

>[Sovereign’s Chain]: Binds squad mana signatures to your own, allowing physical strikes to carry their power and bracing your mind with their collective will.

>[Core Overclock]: Doubles all physical stats for 60 seconds. Cooldown: 24 hours. (Currently on cooldown).

>[Sovereign’s Severance]: Preemptive biological core disconnect used to reject hostile magical bindings (Used to repel the Heart of the Lich).

>[Neural-Steam Integration Link]: Bio-magical firmware allowing direct interface with steam-powered mechanics, treating them as biological extensions for mana-channeling.

>[Architect’s Insight (Lvl 1)] (Passive/Active Hybrid): Forged from a deep bond with an Arcane Prodigy. Grik can now intuitively visualize the internal stress points, mana flow, and kinetic weaknesses of any inorganic structure or machine he touches.

[Equipment]

>Piston-Driven Vanguard Arm] (Grade: Industrial Prototype): Replaces severed left arm. Integrated directly into the nervous system and mana core via the Neural-Steam Link. Passive [Kinetic Charge]: Every second in combat builds ’Steam Pressure’ (+5% Strength per stack).

>[Minor Heat Rune]: Applied to the dark green scarf given to Nyssa.

I looked at the newly acquired titles and increased LP. A sudden prompt appeared before me.

{

[Hidden Stat Unlocked: Infamy]

>Trigger: Host has officially claimed a high-tier noble and attained the [Enemy of the Throne] title.

>Description: This metric tracks your notoriety across the continent. High Infamy passively amplifies your [Goblin Leader’s Aura], which can cause increased fear and submission in hostile targets. Additionally, it acts as a dark magnet for the opposite sex, which will attract those drawn to raw power and danger.

}

A thin smile appeared on my face. Fear and attraction always went hand in hand on the Monster Continent.

Here, being dangerous has its perks.

Nyssa stirred against me, pulling me from my thoughts.

She blinked her emerald eyes open, squinting against the morning light.

As the memories of our intense, unbridled night flooded back to her, a deep flush crept up her cheeks to the tips of her long ears.

She pulled the blanket up a little higher, suddenly shy.

I chuckled softly.

My hand, running through her dark hair, massaged her head.

My touch instantly relaxed her.

The tension melted from her shoulders, and she leaned into the caress with a contented sigh.

"What happened? Did you have a nightmare?" I murmured.

Nyssa traced circles on my chest with her fingertip.

"I was just thinking about how strange this all is. A week ago, I was sitting in the Arcane Spire, meticulously planning out a future that was already written for me. Now, I am in a luxurious inn, sharing a bed with a Verdant Hobgoblin who invents impossible machines."

"Do you regret leaving that written future behind?" I asked.

She shook her head.

Her expression turned solemn.

"Never. You do not understand High Hobgoblin society, Grik."

She sighed, "I just remembered some bad memories. That’s all."

I was surprised. I asked cautiously, "What bad memories made you so sad?"

She went quiet thinking something.

"It’s fine. Tell me whenever you’re ready."

I hugged her with genuine care.

"Some scars are hard to reveal. It is fine to keep them hidden. I’m here for you, love!" I looked in her beautiful, captivating eyes.

She looked startled by my words.

Her eyes started watering.

Her suppressed emotions bursting out.

She hugged me back.

Her emotions, her past, her failures, her everything.

She poured it all over me.

I patted and stroked her head gently.

"It’s all fine! I’m here with you!"

She cried her heart out.

She needed it.

She ranted about all the things she had experienced.

It was understandable after all. She had become a fugitive.

She ran away with a Goblin.

Her life was turned into mess.

She could have chosen to leave me behind.

But she stayed.

She protected me.

She had become my new family.

Watching her, I teared up as well.

I hugged her back tightly.

"Thank you for being with me, Nyssa! Thank You!"

After about half an hour, we were done.

We were now a mess.

A lot more than the mess made last night.

She said, "Sorry! I was being unsightly, wasn’t I?" She stared at me intensely.

"Alright! I will tell you about the Hobgoblin Society."

"To Hobgoblins, magic is a rigid and sacred religion. I had proposed the idea of combining magic with physics, more likely the machines. They considered it heresy. My ideas were torn apart! My father threw them in my face!"

Her voice dropped to a bitter whisper.

"I was never truly loved by my family. I was merely a political asset. I was bred and educated to be married off to a higher-ranking demon lord, just to secure my family’s status at the capital. The Academy was not a place of learning for me. It was all for appearances. I was just going to be auctioned off to some fat noble."

I listened intently, feeling a cold anger simmering in my chest.

I shifted my weight and pulled her closer.

"Listen to me, Nyssa," I said. My voice was vibrating with absolute certainty.

"In this pack, you are not a tool. You are not a political pawn. And you are certainly not a heretic. You are my Chief Architect. You are my equal. You are my woman."

"The value of a woman is not decided by socio-political values. You define yourself. This Kingdom will be where you will shine your brilliance. I believe in you!"

I brought my hand up to cup her cheek.

"I swear to you, anyone who tries to put you back in that cage will have to go through me first. And I promise they will not survive the trip."

Tears welled up in her glowing green eyes, profound relief washing over her face.

The crushing weight of a lifetime of expectations finally lifted from her shoulders.

She leaned up and kissed me deeply, pouring all her gratitude and passion into the connection.

Ding!

I heard the system notification.

{

[Target: Nyssa the Arcane]

>Favorability: 100% (Absolute Devotion)

[Soul Tether Established]

>Effect: Mana synergy between Host and Target increased by 50%.

}

I did not need the system to tell me about her feelings.

I could feel her feelings.

It was a perfect, victorious moment.

We had crossed the threshold of absolute trust.

Then, without warning, the golden interface violently shattered.

The borders of the screen shifted to a blaring, aggressive crimson.

A harsh warning klaxon rang strictly in my mind.

[Warning: Metric Anomaly Detected]

I pulled back from the kiss, my eyes narrowing as I focused on the glowing text.

My newly unlocked Infamy stat began to spin like a broken slot machine.

It jumped from 150.

Then to 800.

Then 3,000.

It finally locked in at a staggering 10,000.

My blood ran completely cold. Infamy meant how many people feared my name.

For that number to skyrocket so fast, it meant only one thing.

Someone is after me.

I do not need the brain of Einstein to figure out who it could be.

’Must be that gay Incubus! He wants my ass so bad!’

The bounty was live.

"Get dressed," I ordered, tossing the blankets aside and tossing Nyssa her clothes.

"We have a problem. A big one."

Nyssa didn’t question the sudden shift in my tone.

She recognized the battle-ready edge in my voice.

We dressed in record time and stepped out into the main suite of the inn.

Kaelith and Rolf were already awake, standing around the small wooden table in the center of the room.

The atmosphere was thick with tension.

Rolf had just returned from an early morning scouting run in the city, his fur standing on end.

"You need to see this, boss," Rolf growled.

He threw a crumpled, freshly printed parchment onto the table.

It was a black-market bounty poster from the Assassination Union.

My face was stamped right in the center.

Below it was an astronomical reward for my confirmed death, payable in pure mana-crystals and refined gold.

Right beneath my bounty were "Capture Alive" orders for Rolf, Kaelith, and Nyssa, with explicit instructions to deliver them unharmed to an anonymous noble benefactor.

I stared at the poster. I looked down at the heavy, brass-plated piston arm bolted to my shoulder.

Then I looked up at my squad.

They were not trembling.

They were waiting for my command.

Instead of fear, a slow, predatory smile crossed my face.

"If Valerius wants to throw money at us," I said, my baritone voice filling the room, "let’s show him exactly how expensive we can be."
