Reincarnated as a Goblin: My 'Sword' is Malfunctioning!!
Chapter 81: The Smelter’s Fall
Chapter 81: The Smelter’s Fall
The colossal Smelter Behemoth did not hesitate.
VVRRRRRNNNN!
Its massive tank treads ground against the stone floor, churning up a blinding wave of sparks and crushed rock. The sheer weight of the machine caused the entire smelting chamber to quake violently.
It raised its gigantic forging hammer high above its furnace chest.
"Scatter!" I roared, my baritone voice cutting through the deafening roar of the machinery.
We dove in four different directions just as the massive iron hammer slammed into the exact spot we had been standing.
KRA-KOOM!
The impact was absolutely catastrophic. The stone floor shattered like brittle glass, sending razor sharp shrapnel flying through the superheated air.
A shockwave of pure kinetic force rippled outward, nearly knocking me off my feet.
"That thing hits like a falling mountain!" Rolf yelled over the din.
The Alpha General did not retreat. He dug his heavy boots into the broken stone. His brilliant silver fur crackled with peak C Grade mana.
Rolf raised his double bladed battleaxe, his muscles bulging as he charged the metallic titan.
"Hey, ugly!" Rolf bellowed, swinging his axe in a devastating horizontal arc aimed directly at the machine’s treads.
CLANG!
The iron axe rebounded off the thick brass plating with a deafening screech. Rolf grunted, his arms vibrating from the severe recoil. The armor was insanely dense.
The Behemoth slowly turned its glowing optical sensors toward the werewolf.
HSSSSSSS!
Thick, blinding steam vented aggressively from the exhaust pipes on its back. The molten slag churning inside its open chest cavity began to bubble and boil violently.
"Rolf, fall back! It is venting!" Nyssa shrieked from the flanks.
Before Rolf could disengage, the Behemoth thrust its free hand forward. A massive, pressurized geyser of molten iron erupted directly from its chest furnace.
"Aegis Shield!" Nyssa commanded flawlessly.
She slammed her oak staff into the ground. A brilliant emerald barrier of Aetherion magic snapped into existence right in front of Rolf, perfectly absorbing the wave of liquid fire.
SPLASH! SIZZLE!
The molten iron splattered against the green barrier, instantly cooling into blackened chunks of slag. The heat radiation was so intense it singed the tips of Rolf’s silver fur.
"My turn," Kaelith whispered from the shadows.
She activated her Void Walker trait. She completely bypassed the physical space filled with superheated steam, emerging directly behind the Behemoth’s massive iron neck.
Her pitch black eyes locked onto a cluster of exposed hydraulic cables. She drove her twin daggers downward with ruthless precision.
SHING! SHING!
The dark blades severed the thick cables effortlessly. Black machine oil sprayed wildly into the air.
The Behemoth let out a mechanical, distorted shriek. Its massive hammer arm stuttered, losing a fraction of its terrifying mobility.
"Lysandra, hit the other side!" I ordered through the Pack Link.
Lysandra did not miss a beat. Her dark maroon wings flared majestically as she took to the air.
Her Phantom Silk Sword Style was a blur of lethal elegance. She darted through the falling sparks, her glowing pink eyes completely focused on her target.
She spun in mid air, dodging a wild, erratic swing from the Behemoth’s damaged arm.
She landed gracefully on the machine’s broad shoulder and plunged her iron dagger deep into the main pressure valve.
POP! HISSS!
A massive jet of steam blew out of the punctured valve, completely blinding the automaton’s left optical sensor.
"Perfect!" I roared.
I engaged the pneumatic pistons in my Vanguard Arm. The heavy brass plates glowed a bright, angry orange as I channeled the Sovereign’s Conduit to its absolute maximum limit.
I activated the Obsidian Slipstream technique. I became a visual blur of dark olive skin and black arcane circuit lines.
I crossed the molten battlefield in a fraction of a second, appearing directly in front of the Behemoth’s exposed, bubbling chest furnace.
"Let us see how much pressure your heart can take!"
I pulled my mechanical arm back and drove my brass fist directly into the thick iron bars protecting the molten core.
KRA-KOOM!
The kinetic blast was devastating.
The iron bars buckled inward, groaning loudly under my C Grade strength. The machine staggered backward, its tank treads grinding uselessly against the broken floor.
We were overwhelming it.
The combined synergy of an Alpha General, an Aetherion scholar, a Noctharion assassin, and a Succubus Queen was simply too much for a purely mechanical entity to handle.
The Behemoth’s health was plummeting rapidly.
But then, the Labyrinth decided to cheat.
The machine suddenly froze. Its grinding gears halted completely. The violent bubbling of the molten slag in its chest quieted down into an eerie, unnatural stillness.
My System interface violently exploded into my vision with a blaring, pure white warning notification.
[CRITICAL ALERT: Foreign Magical Anomaly Detected.]
[The Labyrinth Overseer Protocol is overriding the boss entity.]
[Applying ’Divine’ Attribute to Target.]
[Warning: Target’s damage output is permanently doubled. Target is immune to all status effects.]
"What the hell?" I muttered, stepping back as a blinding, radiant golden light erupted from the center of the Behemoth’s chest.
The molten orange slag instantly turned into a brilliant, glowing white gold.
The ambient temperature in the room skyrocketed. Nyssa’s emerald cooling wards instantly shattered like fragile glass under the immense, holy heat.
"Grik!" Nyssa screamed, shielding her eyes from the blinding light.
"The mana signature is completely shifting! It is not industrial anymore! It feels... celestial!"
The Behemoth slowly raised its arms into the air.
A loud, angelic choir seemed to echo from the grinding gears themselves. The thick brass plating on its shoulders began to unlock and float upward.
The machine was initiating a massive, multi stage transformation sequence.
The heavy iron armor pieces hovered in the air, glowing with divine runes as they prepared to reassemble into a sleeker, infinitely more powerful celestial form.
A massive halo of golden gears formed behind its head. The pressure in the room became absolutely suffocating, pinning Rolf to his knees and forcing Lysandra out of the air.
The boss was completely invulnerable while the armor pieces were shifting. It was a classic, heavily scripted dungeon mechanic designed to awe the challengers before wiping them out.
I watched the golden armor plates float gracefully around the exposed, blindingly bright core in its chest.
’The armor is floating in the air. The chest cavity is completely wide open.’
I did not feel awe. I felt deeply insulted.
I did not wait for the angelic choir to hit its crescendo. I did not wait for the divine armor to snap into its new, impenetrable configuration.
"Sovereign’s Conduit! Maximum Output!" I roared.
My C Grade core pumped a catastrophic amount of mana directly into my legs.
BOOM!
I launched myself off the shattered stone floor, entirely ignoring the blinding, holy light and the suffocating divine pressure.
I sailed straight through the gaps between the floating, transforming armor plates.
I reached the Behemoth’s chest. The glowing white gold core was completely, utterly unprotected while the machine was busy trying to look majestic.
I pulled back my brass Vanguard Arm. The pistons shrieked as they absorbed the residual divine heat.
I drove my fist straight into the center of the blinding golden core.
KRA-KOOM! SHATTER!
My brass knuckles crushed the delicate, celestial crystal into a million pieces. The holy light instantly short circuited.
The angelic choir warped into a horrifying, metallic screech of total system failure.
I landed heavily on the floor, shaking the golden dust off my smoking mechanical arm. I looked up at the dying, sputtering machine as its floating armor plates crashed uselessly into the molten slag below.
"Only an idiot waits for the Villain to complete the transformation," I stated coldly.
The Smelter Behemoth let out one final, pathetic mechanical groan. Its optical sensors went entirely dark.
The massive automaton collapsed forward, its heavy tank treads flipping up into the air before the entire chassis slammed into the ground with a world shaking thud.
THUUUD!
The blinding light faded, replaced by the familiar, dim orange glow of the smelting chamber.
My System interface flooded my vision with a relentless cascade of golden text.
[Boss Execution Complete: Smelter Behemoth (Divine Variant) Destroyed.]
[Massive EXP Awarded.]

[Strata 2: The Piston Grid Cleared.]
"Did you just punch it while it was glowing?" Rolf asked. He slowly stood up, dusting the ash off his silver fur. His golden eyes were wide with pure disbelief.
"It left its chest open," I replied simply, shrugging my organic shoulder. "I took the opening."
Kaelith materialized beside me, shaking her head with a rare, genuine laugh. "You have absolutely no respect for theatricality, boss."
"I respect staying alive," I countered with a grin.
Suddenly, a loud, grinding noise echoed from the far end of the cavern.
The massive, solid iron wall behind the defeated boss slowly began to part down the middle. A hidden reward room was opening for the victors of the second strata.
Before we could even take a step toward the newly revealed vault, a sharp, piercing spike of static erupted violently inside my skull.
"Kzzzt... the iron bleeds... the anomaly descends..."
I froze completely. It was the exact same corrupted, ancient voice from the Overseer’s Control Room.
"Traveler... step into the vault... claim the hollow crown..." the Architect’s ghost whispered directly into my mind. 𝚏𝕣𝕖𝚎𝚠𝚎𝚋𝚗𝐨𝐯𝕖𝕝.𝕔𝐨𝕞
I rubbed my temple, trying to shake the psychic static.
"Stay alert," I ordered the pack, drawing my steel longsword once again. "The reward vault is open. But we are not alone in our heads."
We walked carefully past the smoking ruins of the Behemoth and stepped into the hidden chamber.
The room was not filled with piles of gold or standard magical weapons. It was a pristine, dust free sanctuary made entirely of polished white marble, starkly contrasting the grime of the factory outside.
In the exact center of the room sat a massive, upright crystalline coffin.
It was not a pile of gold, nor a rack of legendary weapons, nor a cache of mana crystals. The heavy, transparent crystal was covered in ancient frost, but a soft, pulsating holy light emanated from within the seal.
"I cannot believe this!"
I walked up to the stasis pod, my boots echoing loudly in the silent vault. I reached out with my organic hand and wiped away a thick layer of centuries old dust from the freezing glass.
My glowing eyes widened in absolute, profound shock as I looked at the figure suspended inside the magical fluid.
It was a human. A female human.
She wore pristine, otherworldly white and gold armor that completely defied the brutal, industrial logic of the Great Iron Labyrinth. It was the unmistakable, legendary attire of a summoned Hero from the Holy Alliance.
But the armor was not what made my heart stop.
I recognized her face. It was a face I had not seen since my previous life. It was a face from Earth.
I stared at the impossible sight locked inside the coffin, my jaw dropping slightly.
"This is unbelievable!"
