Chapter 88: The Fallen General

Tiriana suddenly lunges forward and wraps Aleena in a tight hug.

"My sweet daughter—I knew you took after me!" Tiriana blurts out.

Theodore immediately lets out a small cough at Tiriana’s words.

Rising to his feet, Theodore walks over to me and places a hand on my shoulder while I remain seated. A smile spreads across his face, slowly widening into a grin.

"You did a good job, Jacob. If you had been intimate with my daughter without getting her pregnant, I might have broken your legs. However, this old geezer is beyond happy. You have my blessings. I don’t need to ask any other questions. As far as I know, Aleena has good taste," Theodore says, grinning from ear to ear.

Sigh. If only this old geezer knew I had the Pornstar Class, he would probably puke blood. It’s better I don’t tell him since he didn’t ask, hehe.

Just as Theodore is about to walk away, he suddenly turns back, his face lighting up as though he remembered something.

"I forgot to ask. You have the Mage Class, right? I have some spells I want to give you!"

Fuck my luck. This old geezer remembered.

"I... don’t have the Mage Class."

"Oh, you have the Warrior Class, right?"

"No."

"Oh, then is it the rare Hunter Class?" Theodore asks, furrowing his brows.

Tiriana and Aleena seem to notice our interaction and glance over at us.

"Darling, what are you talking about?" Tiriana asks.

"Nothing. I was just asking about Jacob’s Class," Theodore replies, scratching the back of his head beneath Tiriana’s piercing gaze.

"Why does his Class matter? Are you trying to stir trouble again?" Tiriana says seriously.

"No. No. I just wanted to know, haha."

"Well, I have the Pornstar Class, father," I say steadily.

Almost immediately, the room seems to turn cold. Even Tiriana looks shocked.

"P-Pornstar?!" Theodore stammers, his face turning deathly pale.

"Dad! Why are you making it sound like such a big deal? So what if Jacob has the Pornstar Class? Does that define who he is? Besides, he’s more skilled than most mages," Aleena says, stunning her father even further.

Theodore slowly recovers from his initial shock and lets out a sigh.

"I... I didn’t mean to react like that. It doesn’t matter as long as you’re happy," Theodore says softly.

"Wait, father-in-law. Let me show you something," I suddenly say.

The next moment, I begin chanting five spells simultaneously, my mouth moving in a blur. In an instant, five different spells gather around the fingers of my left hand.

The first spell is lightning, the most violent of them all, dancing around my thumb as though it wants to devour the others. The second is pure light, an affinity not every mage can cast. The third is ice. The fourth is earth. The fifth is a miniature whirlpool of wind spinning around my pinky finger.

Thanks to my constant training and profound Mana Control, I have mastered Intermediate Magic to its absolute peak.

"This... this is chanting five different spells at the same time?!" Theodore exclaims, his eyes nearly popping out of their sockets.

He rushes forward and examines my hand closely as though he can’t believe what he’s seeing.

"What the actual fuck?!" he blurts out before quickly covering his mouth, making it clear he didn’t mean to curse.

Seeing his expression, Aleena crosses her arms and puts on a proud, mocking smile.

"Dad, now you see why I chose him, right?" she says, her voice dripping with pride.

Tiriana simply giggles, unwilling to interfere with the drama.

"H-How is this possible with Intermediate Magic? If I hadn’t seen him chanting, I would’ve thought it was Advanced Magic!"

"But how? With his Class, he shouldn’t be capable of feats like this," Theodore mutters, still visibly shaken.

"Dad, you’d probably lose your mind if I told you Jacob only started learning magic less than a month ago, and now his Mana Pool is larger than mine. When I first met him, he had amnesia, so he couldn’t remember his past. I’ve only been teaching him for less than a month, but his growth is terrifying. What do you think, Dad?" Aleena says proudly.

Theodore wipes his eyes, regains a calm expression, and moves closer until his face is level with mine.

"Kid, you absolutely cannot tell anyone that you achieved this level of growth within a month. If some crazed mage heard that, they’d dissect you just to figure out what’s special about you," Theodore says in a calm but warning tone.

I nod.

"I’ll keep that in mind."

"Alright, now that you know my son-in-law is talented, I don’t want to hear any complaints, okay?" Tiriana says as she walks toward Theodore in a playfully threatening manner.

"Fine. Fine. Since he’s good at magic, I’ll give him those spells as promised. Well, I want to try out the DevilSkunk. Son, will you try it with me too?" Theodore asks, glancing at me.

"Sure. Sure," I reply as I stand up.

"Hmph. You have no shame. Don’t teach my son-in-law how to smoke—"

"Hey, no complaints. Go cook so we can eat and celebrate the good news," Theodore interrupts before dragging me out of the sitting room before I can object.

Once outside, I quietly follow him.

We walk through the courtyard and stop in front of a massive tree.

Suddenly, Theodore crouches. The muscles in his legs bulge, and with a violent burst of air, he launches upward, soaring to the highest point of the tree nearly a hundred meters above the ground.

Damn. This sickly man is this strong? Just how powerful was he in his prime?

Aleena didn’t seem eager to talk about her father’s past.

"Your turn!" Theodore’s voice rings down from above.

Does this old geezer seriously expect me to jump up there like him?

This tree is taller than the fucking Statue of Liberty. 𝒻𝑟ℯℯ𝑤𝑒𝑏𝑛𝘰𝓋𝑒𝓁.𝒸𝑜𝘮

Even if I tried, I’d only be able to jump about fifty meters at most. And levitation at that height would require Advanced Magic.

If that’s the case...

I crouch and gather momentum beneath my feet. My thighs swell with power, along with every muscle in my lower body.

With a sharp burst, I launch into the air.

As expected, I only make it halfway before gravity starts dragging me back down.

"Wind Thrust!"

I quickly chant, directing the spell beneath my feet.

It’s a modified version of Wind Burst.

PUUUF!

A violent blast of wind erupts beneath me and launches me upward with tremendous force.

I shoot past the height of the tree.

Just as I begin descending, I grab a thick branch beside Theodore and pull myself onto it, pretending the feat wasn’t a big deal.

Meanwhile, my heart is pounding so hard it feels ready to burst out of my chest.

"Damn, that was impressive, kid. I honestly never expected you to pull that off with sheer strength," Theodore says, shaking his head with a proud laugh.

"I didn’t. I only jumped halfway and used wind magic to propel myself the rest of the way," I admit.

"Nevertheless, even reaching halfway with pure strength shows immense talent. What do you think about joining the military in the future?" Theodore asks while expertly rolling a joint.

I secretly admire how cleanly he rolls it. The thing looks machine-made.

"I don’t plan on joining the military. I plan to open a porn studio and save toward that dream. Don’t worry, though. I have no intention of making Aleena a pornstar," I joke.

Theodore chuckles, his face breaking into a bright smile.

"I’ve taken quite a liking to you. Perhaps it’s because my dream son-in-law has finally appeared, haha. Unfortunately, I don’t have much time left," Theodore sighs.

"Old geezer, you look pretty young, you know? How have you given up on life so easily? Anything could happen. Don’t tell me you’re planning to leave your beautiful wife behind for hungry wolves to devour. I might as well hand you a green hat in advance," I say mockingly.

Theodore freezes.

For a brief moment, I worry that I might have gone too far.

Then he suddenly bursts into laughter.

"Fine. Fine, haha. I don’t need the green hat. You know what? From now on, I’ll stop counting how many days I have left because, like you said, anything can happen. I’ll live my best life from now on. Anyways, help me light this from your fingertip."

I nod and conjure a small flame at the tip of my index finger, allowing him to light the joint.

He takes a puff and immediately smiles, likely enjoying the euphoric effect.

"You know, I was once an S-Rank Warrior and a former general of the Ethoestan army before I became ill. I still don’t know what caused the sickness, but it seems I’ve been cursed and can no longer use Mana. Every time I force myself to use it, my lifespan shortens. I searched for a cure but found nothing. Then I was discarded by the very kingdom I sacrificed everything for. What a joke.

"Kid, I was testing you with that question about joining the military. I’m glad you gave me an answer I liked. Don’t slave away your life for anyone. It’s not worth being treated like an object or an asset," Theodore says, anger flashing in his eyes.

I remain silent and simply listen.

It’s probably best to let him get everything off his chest.

Since he’s an S-Rank Warrior, it’s no surprise he leapt over a hundred meters without breaking a sweat.

I bet he could jump three times that height if he wanted.

That’s the reality of an S-Ranker.

The two of us continue smoking until we’re both high.

The last thing I remember is stumbling back inside and finding my way into a room.
