Relentless Pursuit After Divorce
Chapter 2200: Young Love Is Sweet (113)
He mustn’t scare her again; he needed to ease up.
Even after entering the house and closing the door, Laura Jones hadn’t recovered from the strange atmosphere earlier.
In her mind, his question kept repeating—
Laura, do you think there’s something wrong with me?
Do you think I’m not good?
Am I not good?
...
Remembering his tone when he asked her this question, a subtle trace of humility lingered, and Laura’s heart clenched slightly, with a hint of pain.
Of course, he’s good; how could he not be?
It’s precisely because he’s so good that she didn’t dare to dream about it.
Laura pressed her lips together, and her gaze inadvertently grew dim.
She casually tidied up, returned to her room, and lay on her bed. In front of her were the autographed photos of William Wilson and Sophie Greenwood, placed high on her bookshelf.
Initially, for her small bit of CP fascination, she put these two photos together, smiling like a fool.
But now, the more she looked at these photos, the more glaring they appeared to her, and somehow, she felt they did not match well.
Laura simply turned away, no longer wanting to look, but her heart grew even heavier.
She felt she must truly have something wrong with her, and it wasn’t a mild case.
Fortunately, Laura didn’t see William Wilson for the next few days.
This gave her some relief from the bizarre atmosphere of that day.
Today is Saturday, and Laura stayed in bed until past ten before getting up.
She had just finished washing up when she received a call from Hannah Taylor, saying Emma Williams had invited them out to dinner to apologize for her inappropriate phrasing that day.
Laura hadn’t been holding onto that incident, and didn’t expect Emma to remember it all this time.
She wasn’t picky about it, so she agreed since they had made plans.
Emma invited them to a newly opened steakhouse in the city center.
Laura wasn’t particularly fond of Western cuisine.
Old Lady passed away two years ago, at the age of ninety, and their household mainly favored Chinese dishes.
When Laura was at home, she followed Old Lady’s eating habits.
She was used to it, thus having little affinity for Western dishes.
However, since Emma was treating them, Laura naturally didn’t refuse based on the principle that guests follow the host.
Not accustomed to Western cuisine, she ordered casually.
"Miss, how do you want your steak cooked?"
At that moment, the waiter approached Laura and asked, looking down.
"Well-done, please." 𝕗𝗿𝕖𝐞𝐰𝗲𝕓𝐧𝕠𝕧𝗲𝐥.𝚌𝐨𝚖
The waiter glanced at Laura with a bit of confusion.
"What’s the matter? Is there a problem?"
Laura noticed the waiter’s expression and asked with a smile.
"No problem, please wait a moment."
After the waiter left, Emma looked sideways at Laura, pretending to ask casually:
"Laura, do you not eat Western cuisine often?"
"Yes, that’s right. I’m not used to it."
Laura replied.
"Earlier, when the waiter heard you wanted your steak well-done, he had a strange expression. It turns out you don’t usually eat Western food; no wonder."
Emma’s words carried a faint sense of superiority.
"Really? Is well-done steak not right?"
Laura asked with a laugh.
"People who truly enjoy steak usually don’t eat it that well-done. Some of the big bosses I know only eat medium-rare, so the waiter thought you were odd."
Emma explained with a gentle smile, trying her best not to appear as if looking down on Laura.
She’s really a country bumpkin who’s never seen the world. Never having eaten Western food, and actually choosing well-done steak—might as well have it fully cooked.
