Rich in the 70s: I Made a Rugged Veteran a Millionaire
Chapter 177: I Was Too Kind
Director Lu bought three soft sleeper tickets.
The moment the soft sleeper compartment door opened, there was a one-second silence inside and outside.
One second later.
"Move along!"
"Don’t block the way!"
People from behind urged, and Jiang Cheng, who had bags strapped to her chest and back, staggered from the push.
Fortunately, there were many people, and she got stuck in the crowd.
"I’m moving right away!"
"Stop pushing!"
Director Lu, carrying one of Jiang Cheng’s burlap sacks, was the first to enter the sleeper compartment.
Turning sideways, the burlap sack on his shoulder landed on the lower bunk with a thud.
"What the hell! Can’t you see someone is sitting here!"
The girl sitting on the lower bunk disdainfully brushed off her pants as if removing some germs.
Director Lu wasn’t one to accommodate others; he turned around and pulled in another burlap sack.
With another thud, it landed on the lower bunk opposite.
The man and woman on the opposite lower bunk quickly got up to avoid it.
Although they didn’t say anything unpleasant, their eyes and expressions clearly showed their discontent.
Director Lu still ignored them.
He had already confirmed the seats, and the tickets were in his pocket. 𝒻𝑟𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝑛𝘰𝓋ℯ𝘭.𝘤𝘰𝘮
These seats were theirs!
What’s wrong with putting some things down!
Director Lu turned again, taking down the big bags and small parcels around Jiang Cheng’s neck.
"Oh my gosh....why are you carrying so much stuff?"
Moving her sore neck, Jiang Cheng said with a smile, "What if we end up needing it?"
"But next time, we can’t bring this much, the key is it’s too hard to get on board!"
Jiang Cheng, thoughtful, said, "No problem, since we’re taking the train for such a long time, I’ll go chat up the conductor."
Director Lu didn’t find anything wrong with that and said, "Go early!"
"No problem."
Complying, Jiang Cheng took a few steps into the compartment, finally allowing Director Lian to squeeze in.
The narrow aisle outside the soft sleeper cleared up again, and several people glanced at the compartment, silently cursing as they passed by.
In the small compartment, there were four beds, up and down.
There were six people in total at the moment.
The three who stood up, one man and two women, were all very young.
"You all---"
The woman with the worst temper started to complain but was directly interrupted by Director Lu.
"We’ve got tickets here; where’s your ticket?"
The girl who was questioned was instantly embarrassed.
"If you don’t have a ticket, why are you making noise!"
Director Lu gave not an inch, turning to the other young man and woman.
"I have a ticket."
The girl who hadn’t spoken all along took out a ticket, pointing to the upper right bunk, "That’s my spot."
As soon as she spoke, the man next to her cleared his throat.
The girl immediately changed her tune, "I gave my spot to him."
After saying that, the girl shyly glanced at the man, and the man smiled back at her.
The two locked eyes, clearly in love.
The other short-tempered girl spoke with a jealous face, "We just didn’t buy a sleeper ticket, it’s not like we can’t afford it!"
"How much did you buy your tickets for? I’ll pay you back. Plus, we’ll give you our seats, so you make money and get seats, it’s totally worth it."
The girl rattled off, then gave Jiang Cheng and the others a look like "Why aren’t you thanking me yet?".
Jiang Cheng, Director Lian, and Director Lu looked at the three young people and thought one thing: They’ve met fools!
Director Lu automatically stepped back a bit and made an inviting gesture.
"You take over, you’re the expert!"
Jiang Cheng gave a reassuring look that seemed to say ’I’ll handle this.’
"Thanks for the compliment, we won’t let you down."
Behind them, Director Lian grinned.
Meeting Jiang Cheng means they’re... "lucky."
Jiang Cheng stood in front of the three. The man opposite was momentarily stunned.
But then he put on a face that said "So what, you’re not good enough for me," while actually sneaking several glances.
Overall, he looked sneaky.
Jiang Cheng didn’t even spare a glance at the man; she directly addressed the girl wanting to buy their tickets.
"Our tickets are sixteen yuan each, just give us one hundred and sixty."
"I don’t know if you’re buying one or all three bunk spaces?"
Jiang Cheng held the train ticket, a pink rectangular card, waiting for the girl to respond.
"One hundred and sixty? Are you crazy!"
The girl shouted, receiving a dismissive "cut" from Jiang Cheng.
"I was happy for nothing, thought I’d met a rich lady!"
"Miss, don’t flaunt if you don’t have the means, just go back where you came from."
"I don’t want to waste my breath either; if you don’t leave, I’ll call the conductor, and you’ll be the embarrassed one!"
Jiang Cheng was firm, and the girl furiously looked towards Director Lu and Director Lian, attempting to persuade them to sell the tickets.
Director Lu: "Xiao Jiang... really, how did I teach you?"
Director Lu’s comment made the girl smug.
She thought, how could the three let the youngest girl make the decision?
The girl was gleeful, only to hear Director Lu say, "How did I teach you? At least ask for twenty times more!"
"Exactly, too cheap! We’ve been carrying luggage all day, that’s hard labor too."
Director Lian added fuel to the fire, and Jiang Cheng nodded.
"It’s my first time being nice, not very good at it yet; I’ll improve next time."
The three teamed up, making the girl fume with rage.
"You all—you all—"
Annoyed by the nonsense, Jiang Cheng directly opened the door and shouted, "Conductor, someone is occupying my sleeper!"
Upon hearing the shout, the girl immediately stopped and yelled, "Stop shouting! I’ll leave, okay!"
The girl grabbed her backpack, reluctantly glancing at the man who was unmoved.
"Brother Wang Qiang, let’s go back together."
The man’s face darkened upon being called.
He really didn’t want to leave, okay.
The girl with the ticket was also troubled. She liked Wang Qiang and didn’t want to part from him.
But the thought of spending hours with Du Shanshan was tough for her too.
Most importantly, she wouldn’t be able to see Wang Qiang.
Thinking of this, the girl with a ticket tugged on Wang Qiang’s sleeve, "Let’s take turns, okay?"
Wang Qiang wasn’t willing, but he put on a considerate face and said, "Okay, I can’t bear to see you so tired."
The girl with the ticket blushed at Wang Qiang’s sweet words.
Du Shanshan, standing at the door ready to leave, snorted and pulled at Wang Qiang.
"Brother Qiang, let’s go!"
Wang Qiang’s face showed displeasure, and he gave a reassuring look to the girl with the ticket, saying, "I’ll come find you later."
"Okay."
The girl nodded slightly, watching Wang Qiang and Du Shanshan leave with reluctance.
As soon as they walked out the sleeper door, the conductor arrived.
"Who called? Who doesn’t have a ticket?"
Jiang Cheng immediately raised her hand.
"I called, those two don’t have tickets!"
The conductor’s gaze fell on Wang Qiang and Du Shanshan, his face stern.
"Your tickets, please?"
Wang Qiang and Du Shanshan got their tickets checked and were told off for being in the sleeper area without appropriate tickets.
Even though Wang Qiang tried to explain he had friends there, the conductor wasn’t buying it.
This kind of freeloading in sleepers was all too common to him!
In the end, Wang Qiang could only shout to the girl with the sleeper ticket: "Remember to come find me!"
