Rich in the 70s: I Made a Rugged Veteran a Millionaire
Chapter 197: Beer
Jiang Cheng didn’t explain anything to Director Yan.
After their phone call, the three of them walked back to the guesthouse.
That night, Jiang Cheng slept very well because she dreamed of Shen Que.
When she woke up in the morning, Jiang Cheng slowly thought: Actually, getting married isn’t so bad.
With a small creak, the door opening quietly made Jiang Cheng look toward it.
Tiptoeing, Director Lian came in carrying a washbasin, quickly closing the door and asking, "Awake?"
"Morning, Sister Lian."
Director Lian nodded with a smile, putting the basin on a nearby stool. "Warm water, just wash up here for a while; the water room is full of old men in tank tops."
"Great! Thank you, Sister Lian."
Jiang Cheng sweetly thanked her, and Director Lian, with a face of reluctance, said, "No need to be so polite with me."
"Sister Lian is right!"
Jiang Cheng quickly washed up and changed clothes, getting ready for breakfast.
But before she could eat, the receptionist downstairs came up, saying someone was looking for Jiang Cheng.
Jiang Cheng instantly knew it was the person Shen Que arranged to deliver something.
She hurried downstairs.
Shen Que said he got a comrade to help....
Rushing to the entrance, Jiang Cheng saw an elderly lady with a cane, momentarily reminded of the first time Shen Que came to find her.
"Hello, are you looking for Jiang Cheng?"
The elderly lady with a cane, slightly hard of hearing, stepped closer, saying "Huh?"
Jiang Cheng pointed to herself and said loudly, "I am Jiang Cheng!"
The old lady smiled.
"So pretty! No wonder Shen kept saying you’re the most beautiful one!"
The hard-of-hearing old lady spoke very loudly.
Her voice reverberated around the guesthouse lobby.
Only Jiang Cheng could handle it; most people would want to crawl into a hole.
Jiang Cheng stepped forward to support the old lady, smiling sweetly and saying, "That’s right, I’m the prettiest!"
The old lady smiled even more, pointing to the bags on the ground. "Shen had me prepare this for you."
Jiang Cheng nodded in understanding.
After a not-so-private conversation, everyone knew the old lady’s grandson had accompanied her.
Jiang Cheng escorted the old lady outside, seeing her grandson standing straight outside.
After another round of thanks, the old lady’s grandson grinned with a big smile, saying, "No thanks needed, just invite me to the wedding banquet."
"Definitely!"
Jiang Cheng watched them leave.
She returned to the guesthouse, carrying her stuff upstairs.
At the same time, Director Lu also brought breakfast back, and the three of them ate together in the room.
As they ate, Director Lu and Director Lian started expressing their envy.
"Young love is something else; they even send stuff to Sea City."
Director Lu finished, and Director Lian agreed, "That’s what’s called... romantic!"
Director Lu gave an "oh" and looked at Jiang Cheng, saying:
"I don’t know about romance, but it’s definitely a bit extravagant."
The three of them couldn’t help but laugh.
After breakfast, Jiang Cheng didn’t hurry to leave.
Until a messenger from Director Mu arrived, saying Rose was on the plane, she was ready to go out.
The messenger quickly asked, "Director Mu wants to know when you’ll be visiting the Laine couple; she needs to make arrangements."
Jiang Cheng didn’t answer but asked, "What day is it today?"
The messenger looked puzzled for a moment but honestly replied, "Friday."
Jiang Cheng frowned.
Germans don’t like the number 13 and Fridays.
Although there’s no solid data to support it, why take the risk of bad luck when there’s another time available?
"I’ll go tomorrow at three in the afternoon."
The messenger noted the time and went back to report to Director Mu.
Jiang Cheng was also ready to leave, and of course, Director Lu and Director Lian tagged along.
They accurately positioned themselves as bodyguards!
After taking the bus to the train station, Director Lu remembered to ask why they were there.
Jiang Cheng was checking the train schedule and said, "I asked the chief steward to bring me something."
"What?"
Director Lu didn’t understand — a steward, bringing something?
Jiang Cheng explained, "I wanted something from Q City, and mailing it wouldn’t arrive in time, so I asked the train chief steward to bring it for me."
"Since when did you become so familiar with the chief steward?"
Director Lu wasn’t doubting Jiang Cheng’s familiarity, just wondering when she had the time.
On the train, if she wasn’t in a special compartment, she’d be sleeping. When did she have time to make a connection with the chief steward?
"We formed a bond catching a thief together!"
Jiang Cheng tossed her head with pride and walked briskly toward the train station’s employee lounge.
Director Lu couldn’t help but be impressed.
Where there’s a will, there’s a way, and Jiang Cheng found a way even without an opportunity!
Jiang Cheng found the chief steward without any trouble.
After a round of gratitude, Jiang Cheng handed him a notebook filled with writing.
"Chief Cheng, this is a summary of some methods and traits of thieves and traffickers. I hope it helps with your work."
"Additionally, I suggest posting simple and clear pamphlets in each compartment. Raising public vigilance is very important."
Chief Steward Cheng nodded repeatedly, agreeing.
After they spoke, he looked at the large wooden barrel on the floor and asked, "How are you going to take this back?"
"No worries, I have help!"
Director Lu and Director Lian got to work.
A super heavy wooden barrel was hoisted onto a pre-arranged tricycle.
When Jiang Cheng returned to the guesthouse, she immediately went to find Master Jin, who handled foreign trade cooking.
Thus busy, she spent the entire afternoon.
When Jiang Cheng returned to the guesthouse afterward, she soaked her feet with the herbal packet Shen Que sent, held a hot water bag and calming sachet he sent, and fell asleep slowly.
The next morning, feeling well-rested, Jiang Cheng got up early, planning to see the Laine couple today.
So, she needed to dress nicely.
After a morning of preparation, Jiang Cheng arrived at the Foreign Affairs Hotel at three in the afternoon, carrying gifts.
"Jiang! I’ve missed you so much!"
Andrew was the first to rush over, giving Jiang Cheng a big hug.
"Andrew, I’ve missed you too."
After Jiang Cheng said that, she whispered in Andrew’s ear, "I have a gift for you."
"So do I!"
Andrew’s eyes showed happiness at their shared understanding.
Following Andrew, Jiang Cheng entered the Foreign Affairs Hotel and went all the way to the suite where the Laine couple was staying.
The suite was large, with a living room, kitchen, and private bathroom.
The Laine couple warmly welcomed Jiang Cheng’s arrival.
Within minutes, everyone was engaged in a lively conversation.
Director Mu and another translator stood in the corner, trying to minimize their presence.
Letting Jiang Cheng take the lead!
During their chat, Jiang Cheng brought up the topic of gifts.
"Jiang, you’re too kind; it’s us who should be thanking you."
"No! You are all so kind, and I’m very happy to know your family, so please let me express my joy, okay?"
The Laine couple naturally agreed.
Jiang Cheng smiled, got up, opened the door, and pushed in a slightly smaller wooden barrel on a small cart.
The Laine couple curiously got up, especially Mr. Laine.
"Oh— is this what I think it is...."
"Beer!"
Jiang Cheng confirmed, making Mr. Laine overjoyed.
"Jiang—you’re amazing! I love this gift!"
