Rich in the 70s: I Made a Rugged Veteran a Millionaire
Chapter 265: Two Old Men
Trading Hall Broadcasting Room.
Jiang Cheng was chatting with Todd.
With a "bang," the sound of a door being pushed open attracted the attention of the three people inside.
A man with a slicked-back hair ran in, holding a black notebook high in his hand, his eyes gleaming.
"Translator Jiang—I found it!!"
"Oh—my God! It’s my notebook!"
Todd excitedly stood up, reaching out to grab the notebook.
But the man at the door cautiously stepped back two steps, still keeping his eyes on Jiang Cheng.
"The notebook is for this foreign businessman, thank you for your help, how should I address you?"
Jiang Cheng got up and explained.
Upon hearing this, the man at the door let go of the tightly held notebook with a brush, casually stuffing it to Mr. Todd.
"Hello, Mr. Jiang, I am the director of the No. 1 Distillery in G Province, my surname is Xu, Xu Guoqiang."
"Hello, Director Xu."
Jiang Cheng shook hands and chatted with Director Xu.
Beside them, Todd happily flipped through his recovered notebook.
Director Xu took the opportunity to invite Jiang Cheng to stroll around their distillery booth, and Jiang Cheng readily agreed.
Director Xu was overjoyed to hear this and left after chatting for a while.
After sending off Director Xu, Jiang Cheng returned to stand beside Mr. Todd, tactfully refraining from looking at his notebook.
Todd, noticing Jiang Cheng, expressed his gratitude once more.
"Jiang, without you, it wouldn’t have been so smooth to find it back."
"Really, thank you so much, I hope I can do something for you."
Jiang Cheng responded with a gentle smile: "Mr. Todd, whether it’s me here or anyone from Hua Xia, they would enthusiastically help you."
"As for the return favor... if possible, could you help introduce some foreign businessmen to the booths here?"
"Of course, you don’t have to do these things, it’s just a small personal wish of mine."
Jiang Cheng’s words were sincere and kind, and Todd was not very resistant to Jiang Cheng’s suggestion.
"Jiang, I’m very willing to help you, though not many people I know come here, let me think..."
Todd seriously pondered for a moment and said: "I have an old friend who runs a hotel, but I don’t know if he’d choose to do business."
Jiang Cheng was pleasantly surprised and grateful: "That’s enough."
Upon hearing this, Todd immediately proposed: "Shall I introduce you to him?"
Jiang Cheng naturally agreed.
After agreeing, Jiang Cheng informed Xiao Lin of her need to leave.
"Comrade Xiao Lin, could you find some translators here? I need to leave for a while."
"Alright!"
Comrade Xiao Lin was understanding and supportive.
After speaking, Jiang Cheng left the broadcasting room with Mr. Todd to find his friend.
After walking half a circle, Todd finally found his old friend—Mr. Luke.
Mr. Luke dressed modestly, looking like a particularly unassuming old man, sporting a walrus mustache and holding an inconspicuous wooden cane.
Yet the keen light in his eyes made Jiang Cheng wary; this was definitely not a simple character.
"Hello Mr. Luke, I’m the translator here, Jiang Cheng."
Luke did not give Jiang Cheng a hard time, calmly reaching out to shake his hand.
Jiang Cheng pondered for a moment before deciding to tell the truth.
"Mr. Luke, I boldly asked Mr. Todd to introduce buyers. I don’t know what you need, but if you truly do, I’d be delighted to offer you guiding services."
Luke smiled.
"You’re smart."
"Thank you."
Jiang Cheng admitted, after which Mr. Luke entertained no displeasure: "Very good, I appreciate people who are clear about their goals and pursue them proactively, most importantly, you didn’t foolishly try to cover up."
Jiang Cheng nodded slightly.
"I considered it, but upon seeing you, I changed my mind."
Luke nodded, while Todd impatiently interjected: "Old Luke, stop with the testing games, will you? Jiang helped me."
Luke, looking at Todd, displayed a relaxed yet disdainful expression.
"Without me, you wouldn’t even know how many times you’d get lost."
Todd clearly disagreed with Mr. Luke’s statement, retorting: "I certainly wouldn’t."
Mr. Luke scoffed, his old venomous tongue coming online, saying: "Is that so? Then may I ask which city we’re in right now?"
Todd’s eyes wandered, finally stating resolutely: "Hua Xia... some city."
Todd, somewhat embarrassed after speaking, added: "Why care so much, as long as it’s on Earth."
Luke was absolutely exasperated by Todd’s words, rolling his eyes.
"Do you have the moon in your brain? Always orbiting Earth, given your thinking, I’d be the sun!"
Todd defiantly retorted: "No wonder you’re so fiery, turns out you’re the sun!"
Jiang Cheng stood aside, passively watching the two old men argue back and forth.
However, she kept silent, recognizing them as old companions with decades of friendship.
They might just reconcile shortly.
Sure enough, just as Jiang Cheng considered this, Luke and Todd stopped arguing.
The two simultaneously looked at Jiang Cheng and asked in sync: "Why didn’t you stop us?"
Jiang Cheng innocently asked: "I didn’t think you were truly arguing, rather like bantering with friends, the more you bicker, the deeper the friendship."
Todd: "Who’s he close with!"
Luke: "I don’t want to be close with him!"
The two old men, one facing left, one facing right, were adorably awkward.
Both seemed to realize their childishness, as Mr. Luke forcibly turned back to the main topic.
"Translator Jiang, you said you could be our guide?"
"Yes."
Luke nodded: "We’d like to see outside, not inside the trading hall, is it possible?"
"Of course!"
Jiang Cheng promised without hesitation, continuing: "I need to report to my leaders, but I think it won’t be a big issue."
Luke and Todd exchanged a glance, especially Todd noticeably more cheerful.
Jiang Cheng sensed a hint of "affection" from Mr. Luke’s demeanor.
"Then we’ll trouble you."
Mr. Luke nodded slightly at Jiang Cheng, who promptly led the two to the translator’s office at the entrance.
Jiang Cheng explained the situation to Zhong Fan, who directly agreed.
If one thing the recent experiences taught him, it’s definitely to allow Jiang Cheng some flexibility.
Nevertheless, Zhong Fan also reminded of some matters, such as safety precautions.
Jiang Cheng duly noted them and, after reporting to Director Cui of foreign trade, led Todd and Luke out of the exchange.
"Both of you, do you mind if I bring a friend?"
Mr. Luke shook his head: "We don’t mind, we just want to look around."
"Thank you, I’ll certainly ensure a good guiding job."
Jiang Cheng brought the two to meet Gao Zhonghua and his group, exchanged introductions, and greetings followed, before the group of six set off.
Among six people, not one was local, with three being foreigners.
To truly explore this city, some local help was definitely needed.
Thus, Jiang Cheng’s first stop with the five was—the police station!
