Rise of The Demon General
Chapter 812. A Contest Between Tamed Beasts
"How dare that prick tell us to meet him near the border. I will skin him alive when I meet him!" Diu Cay cursed. "Your Lordship, allow me to punish him on your behalf!
Yao Ai did not comment. She stood quietly atop the back of the Vermillion Vulture’s back. The colossal beast was gliding quietly in the sky. Diu Cay was next to him, riding a giant bird that looked like a cross between an owl and a bat. This owlbat was covered in feathers as white as bone.
Following behind them, at a lower altitude, was an army. The soldiers of this army rode various flying beasts. They all headed toward the center of the realm, where Mo Wang’s castle was located.
Diu Cay took Yao Ai’s silence as an approval of his statement. Hence, when his eye art saw Amon in the distance, hovering in wait while riding a strange firebird, he rushed forward.
"Do not kill or cause him grave wounds," He heard Yao Ai’s soft words as he advanced.
He understood that Yao Ai used her power to manipulate her voice so only he could hear her. He was fine with the command. He could dispense many punishments that didn’t involve killing the subject.
"Slayer Amon, get down on the ground and kneel for your transgression!" Diu Cay bellowed once he arrived near Amon. He unleashed his Overlord aura and used it to press on Amon.
Amon felt the heavy pressure bearing on him, but he didn’t plummet to the ground as Diu Cay intended. His altitude slowly lowered, but it was clear to everyone that he resisted Diu Cay’s power.
Diu Cay frowned at this reality. "Your cultivation...," he uttered.
He had heard from Yao Ai that Amon had reached the Peak Supreme Stage. He had his doubts because this would mean Amon had a cultivation speed that defied every record that had ever been established. Now, his cultivation sense informed him that Amon’s cultivation level was even higher than that. The Amon before him was a Beginning Mammoth cultivator. 𝙧𝙚𝙚𝔀𝒆𝓫𝓷𝙤𝓿𝒆𝙡.𝒄𝙤𝓶
He tried to hide his astonishment, but it was difficult to do so. This astonishment caused him to unconsciously weaken the forceful pressure he discharged. Amon stopped descending. Amon took the chance to speak.
"It is a great privilege to meet the great Dictator of the Mercy Faction. I have long heard Your Honor’s name. Please accept my respect for finally meeting Your Honor. If I have offended Your Honor in any way, I apologize."
Diu Cay realized he was lost in his thoughts. He restrengthened his aura, but he no longer forced Amon to descend. Instead, his aura pressed on Amon to cause him difficulty in moving and breathing.
Amon winced. "An overlord cultivator is truly something else. I bet those who can resist Your Honor’s power can be counted with hands."
"Hmph!" Diu Cay harrumphed. Amon’s statement upset him, but also astonished him again. For Amon to be able to talk normally under his influence showed that he couldn’t dominate Amon using aura alone. At the same time, what Amon said was no different than praising himself.
"Enough with your pointless words," Diu Cay said. "What I want to know is why you have the audacity to tell Her Lordship to meet you halfway to our destination."
"I beg Your Honor and Her Lordship’s forgiveness," Amon said. "I meant no disrespect. I was deep inside the Commitment Domain, collecting information that would benefit our faction. My fault was that I was in a position that didn’t allow me to move freely. Hence, I cannot make it to Saintly Sin City in time. For that, I sincerely apologized."
"Hmph! No matter the reason, your action shows disrespect. You should have better planned your time. The error of not making it back in time shows your incompetence."
"I understand. For that, I will pay it back by achieving a merit that surpasses any other merits that have ever been accomplished."
Diu Cay scowled at the statement. Could this man be any more conceited?
"I care not for your boasting! What I intend is to dole out proper punishment for your transgression."
"Can it wait until after the Lord’s meeting? I believe Her Lordship doesn’t wish for the other Domain Lords to see her being accompanied by a wounded follower now, does she? That will cause our faction to lose face."
"Hmph! Bringing you with Her Lordship has already caused our faction to lose face. You will take three hits. If you are still fit enough to move, then you can continue to accompany Her Lordship."
"Three hits? Your Honor. Against someone from the Devil Realm like you, getting hit once is enough to send me to the afterlife."
"Is that fear I hear? Weren’t you someone who had survived facing Our Lordship for one minute?"
Amon chuckled. "That was simply because Our Lordship took me lightly. If she were truly serious, I wouldn’t have lasted even one second."
"You are correct at that. Very well. I see that you are not haughty to the point of being delusional. I will give you a better chance so others do not call me a bully. I will let you face my ride. This is my Grave Owlbat. Since you are a Mammoth Stage cultivator, it is a suitable opponent for you. See if you can survive ten minutes against it."
Amon eyed the Grave Owlbat. He had read about this spirit beast. It was classified as a Mid Primordial Beast. While the power of a Mid Primordial Beast was equivalent to a Mammoth Stage cultivator in theory, the Grave Owlbat was considered strong among Mid Primordial Beasts, while Amon had only entered the Mammoth Stage. So, on paper, he was not the Grave Owlbat’s opponent.
Amon said, "Mm... I do not wish to anger Your Honor, but I’m afraid it would happen if I accidentally kill Your Honor’s pet. How about this? I will have this Sun Ray Hawk fight the Grave Owlbat. We make it a contest between our tamed beasts."
Diu Cay’s scowl turned uglier. He thought Amon had known his place after his threat, but what Amon just said didn’t reflect that at all. He could sense that the aura from the hawk Amon rode was only a Higher Mythical Beast. How dare Amon say it like it was a fair opponent for his tamed beast?"
"You have dug your own grave for your tamed beast. My Grave Owlbat will tear through both you and that altered beast of yours."
At Diu Cay’s signal, the Grave Owlbat he was riding uttered a loud screech. It left Diu Cay’s side and flew toward Amon. Amon himself flew away, while the Sun Ray Hawk remained. This showed that Amon was serious about leaving the fight to his tamed beast.
"Hmph! Tear through that weak hawk and teach its master a lesson!" Diu Cay commanded his tamed beast.
The Grave Owlbat screeched in response. It shared Diu Cay’s irritation thanks to their mental links. It had no intention to waste time with the Sun Ray Hawk. Its two razor-sharp claws aimed at the hawk while its speed increased.
The Sun Ray Hawk spat out a fireball enhanced with lightning sparks. The Grave Owlbat didn’t consider the fireball a threat. Its white feathers shone with mystical lights. It let the fireball hit. The fireball exploded, but it suffered no harm. It didn’t even slow.
The Sun Ray Hawk turned into lightning and dodged the claws before it hit.
"Hm..." Diu Cay raised his eyebrows. He was genuinely surprised. Even though it was a temporary boost, he didn’t expect a Higher Mythical Beast to move that fast.
The Grave Owlbat shared its master’s sentiment. It felt humiliated that it failed to defeat a Higher Mythical Beast with one strike. It flapped its wings. An explosion of wind occurred where it was, and it vanished. It reappeared again near the Sun Ray Hawk. Despite the sudden displacement, the Sun Ray Hawk again dodged the assault by turning into a ray of lightning.
This repeated several times. Multiple explosions of wind occurred all around the place while the Sun Ray Hawk constantly moved away at the speed of a lightning bolt.
Though the opponent could only dodge, Diu Cay was displeased that his pet failed to finish the Sun Ray Hawk in a short time. "Hmph, I admit your tamed beast surprises me, but how long do you think a Higher Mythical Beast can keep up with the energy expenditure to perform those high-speed movements?"
"Hopefully, ten minutes," Amon answered.
"Tch!" Diu Cay uttered. If that were true, he would lose face. Failing to wound Amon was already bad enough. If the Grave Owlbat failed to also wound a much weaker opponent, then that would be a hard slap on his face. To make matters worse, Yao Ai and their army were drawing near. He must end this charade before they arrive. He sent a mental signal to his tamed beast.
In response, the Grave Owlbat uttered a piercing cry. Unlike its previous screech, this one was no ordinary cry. Powerful energy accompanied the sound. Even Amon, who was a decent distance away, felt his internal organs rattled by the sound.
The Sun Ray Hawk, which was weaker and closer, suffered a worse outcome. Its movement stopped. The internal wounds caused by the sound made it vomit blood. The instant it stopped, the Grave Owlbat landed on it. The owlbat’s two powerful claws crushed its wings, shattering the bones inside to pieces.
The Grave Owlbat dragged the Sun Ray Hawk downward. With a loud crash, it slammed the Sun Ray Hawk to the ground. When the dust settled, everyone saw the Grave Owlbat standing proudly. Its two feet were on the Sun Ray Hawk, which lay flat on the ground.
