Shameless Immortal: Emperor of Ten Thousand Beauties
Chapter 151: The Banquet [2]
The group had barely begun their walk toward the elevated head table when a sudden, sharp clarity pierced the ambient noise of the hall. The herald’s voice, amplified by spiritual energy, cut through the murmurs with practiced formality.
"Announcing the arrival of Matriarch Meng Yan of the Jin Clan!"
The atmosphere in the room shifted again, the air growing heavy with a different kind of authority. Entering the hall was a woman who embodied mature, intoxicating power.
Meng Yan strode in, her emerald hair cascading like a silken waterfall over her shoulders, contrasting beautifully with her hazel eyes that seemed to spark with a predatory intelligence.
Her robes were a deep red, clinging to her voluptuous curves in a way that spoke of a woman who was perfectly aware of her allure and the power she wielded as the head of the Jin Clan.
City Lord Wu Shan’s eyes brightened with genuine recognition. He paused his walk with Shen Yu, turning to greet the newcomer.
"Ah, Matriarch Meng! You’ve finally arrived," Wu Shan boomed, his voice warm. "The evening wouldn’t be complete without the presence of the Jin Clan’s finest. I was beginning to think the business had kept you too busy to grace us with your company."
Meng Yan offered a graceful, calculated smile, her gaze flickering briefly over the crowd before settling on the City Lord, and then, with a sharp, electric intensity, on Shen Yu.
"The City Lord’s invitations are not something one ignores lightly," Meng Yan replied, her voice a low, melodic purr that seemed to vibrate through the air.
"Forgive my delay, matters of the clan required my personal attention."
"Think nothing of it," Wu Shan laughed, his voice booming with genuine warmth as he gestured toward the head table.
"You arrive at the perfect moment. We were just about to take our seats with the guests of honor."
Turning toward the Tang Clan entourage, Meng Yan greeted Yilan with the poised respect of a long-standing ally, their eyes meeting in a silent acknowledgment of their shared interests.
But when her gaze finally settled on Shen Yu, the professional mask didn’t just thin, it nearly dissolved. Her greeting was laced with a dangerous, sultry familiarity, her hazel eyes raking over his pristine, saintly robes with the hunger of a woman who knew exactly what lay beneath the silk.
Behind her polished, Matriarchal exterior, her mind was a chaotic storm of unladylike thoughts
’Damn it...’ she cursed inwardly, her pulse quickening as she took in his ethereal, sharp profile. ’My man is just too handsome. Fuck, I’m getting wet just standing this close to him.’
She forced a steady breath, fighting to keep her expression neutral even as her core throbbed with a treacherous, needy heat.
Led by Wu Shan, the procession moved toward the head table.
The walk was a silent, suffocating display of shifting power. Every step Yilan and Meng Yan took, flanked by the Golden Paragon, Shen Yu and the sharp grace of Lixue, felt like a nail being driven into the coffin of the old hierarchy that had ruled Thousand Waves City for generations.
Behind them, Li Qiu followed like a ghostly shadow. Her subservient elegance was a masterclass in psychological warfare, a constant, stinging reminder to the gathered elites that the "Golden Paragon" didn’t just win battles. He broke bloodlines, dismantled legacies, and repurposed the very souls of those he conquered into his own personal instruments.
They were seated at a grand, rectangular table of polished blackwood that seemed to swallow the light, adorned with spiritual delicacies that shimmered with essence.
In a blatant display of the city’s new order, Yilan was seated to the City Lord’s immediate right. Next to her sat Shen Yu, followed by Lixue.
To the City Lord’s left sat Meng Yan, her emerald hair catching the lantern light. Behind their respective masters, Xu Yi and Li Qiu stood like silent, decorative sentinels, the former a loyal aide, the latter the living trophy of a fallen house.
As the guests took their places, the shift in the room’s gravity was palpable.
For years, Thousand Waves City had rested on a tripod of power: the City Lord’s clan, the Jin Clan, and the Peng Clan, with the Tang Clan previously trailing behind.
With the Peng Clan wiped from the map, the Tang Clan had not just filled the void, they had ascended to the very peak.
Occupying the seat once held by the Tang Clan was the He Clan, now the fourth power of the city. Their Patriarch was a man whose appearance was as loud as his ambition.
A stout, rotund man with oily black hair and a prominent mole on his right cheek, he was draped in flamboyant robes of gold and crimson that seemed a size too small for his frame. Multiple rings and heavy jade pendants clinked as he moved, a walking display of nouveau-riche excess.
The He Patriarch rose, his chair scraping loudly against the marble floor as he offered a deep, theatrical bow that caused his gold-trimmed robes to strain against his belly.
His oily black hair gleamed under the spirit-lanterns, and the mole on his cheek seemed to twitch with every fawning word.
"City Lord Wu, it is a glorious evening for us all! A celebration of stability and the dawn of a new era for our beloved Thousand Waves City!" he chirped, his voice high-pitched and eager.
He turned first toward the left side of the table, offering a sweeping gesture to the Matriarch of the Meng Clan.
"Matriarch Meng! As always, your presence is like the first breath of spring. The Jin Clan’s prosperity remains the bedrock of our city’s trade."
Meng Yan didn’t even look up from her wine, her hazel eyes tracing the rim of her cup with a bored, feline grace.
"Your flattery is as loud as your robes, Patriarch He," she purred, her voice a low, melodic warning. "Sit. You’re making the soup cold."
Undeterred by the cold shoulder, the He Patriarch shifted his gaze to the seat on the City Lord’s right. His expression shifted instantly into a mask of dramatic, tearful admiration as he bowed toward Yilan.
"And Matriarch Mei Yilan! To see you here is nothing short of a miracle bestowed by the heavens themselves," he exclaimed, his voice dripping with sycophancy.
"The city trembled when we heard of the attack. They say you burned your very life-essence, wielding a forbidden technique to shield your kin and the Golden Dragon from that those Ghosts."
"To suffer such a blow and yet rise again, standing even stronger and more radiant than before, it is a testament to the undying spirit of the Tang Clan. Truly, the Matriarch has been reborn in fire!"
