Sold for 300, I Fight Back with Superpowers
Chapter 164: The Angry Old Su
After hearing what Old Su said, no one moved for a moment.
Everyone in the Su Family knew Su Qing had dared to brandish a knife at Old Su. If she could do that to her own grandmother, what wouldn’t she do to anyone else? Besides, with the exception of the youngest, Su Lifeng, everyone in the room had treated Su Qing poorly in the past. Who knew if that damn girl would suddenly have a fit and come at them with a knife if one of them went over alone?
To get hurt during the New Year’s festivities would be such terrible luck.
Seeing that no one moved, Old Su frowned. He turned to Su Lifeng and said, "Lifeng, go get your second cousin. Tell her it’s the Little New Year and she should come back for the reunion dinner."
"Oh." Su Lifeng nodded and stood up to go get Su Qing. Zheng Erlian was a little reluctant. ’Why should her son have to go?’ But since it was Old Su who gave the order, she couldn’t object and could only silently agree with a sullen face.
Su Qing had just finished her meal and cleared away the dishes. She remembered she still hadn’t read Li Huan’s letter. Just as she was about to read it, she heard a knock on the courtyard gate.
’It’s the Little New Year today. There shouldn’t be anyone visiting, right?’
Su Qing opened the gate and saw a little boy about ten years old. For a moment, she didn’t recognize him.
"You are..." Su Qing looked at the boy, certain she had never seen him in the village.
"Second Cousin, it’s me, Lifeng." Seeing her expression, Su Lifeng knew Su Qing hadn’t recognized him and quickly introduced himself.
Su Lifeng!
Su Qing remembered. He was her eldest uncle’s youngest son, Su Lifeng.
Come to think of it, out of the entire Su Family, Su Lifeng seemed to be the only one who had never bullied the original owner of her body. But he rarely came back, so he and her predecessor were practically strangers. It was no wonder she hadn’t recognized him at first glance.
Although the boy in front of her was part of the Su Family, he was young and hadn’t bullied her predecessor, so Su Qing wouldn’t speak harshly to him. She just asked, "What are you here for?"
"Grandpa and Grandma sent me to call you back for the reunion dinner," Su Lifeng told her.
Hearing this, Su Qing raised an eyebrow slightly. "No need. I’ve already eaten. You guys go ahead. Alright, if there’s nothing else, I’m going to rest."
With that, before Su Lifeng could say anything else, Su Qing shut the courtyard gate.
Seeing this, Su Lifeng pursed his lips. He didn’t knock again and simply turned to head back to the Old Su Family’s house.
"Where is she?" Seeing Su Lifeng return alone, Old Su frowned and asked.
"Second Cousin said she’s already eaten and wants to rest, so she’s not coming over," Su Lifeng said as he sat down. His stomach was already growling, but with his grandparents yet to touch their chopsticks, he couldn’t very well start eating. He glanced at Su Lihui, who was brazenly grabbing meat with his bare hands as if no one else was there. Su Lifeng frowned in disgust, completely disdainful of his actions.
"That damn girl!" Hearing Su Lifeng’s words, Old Su slammed her hand on the table in anger. Su Lihui, who was in the middle of swallowing a piece of meat, was startled by her action. The meat instantly got stuck in his throat, sending him into a fit of coughing.
Tian Aixiang was terrified. She hurriedly patted Su Lihui’s back, afraid he might choke to death. Su Tao was already dead, and this was the only son she had left. She couldn’t afford for anything to happen to him. Otherwise, who would she rely on in her old age?
Tian Aixiang inwardly blamed Old Su but didn’t dare say a word, afraid the old woman would embarrass her in front of the whole family. Su Shunli, however, was different. He looked at Old Su with displeasure. "Mom, take it easy. Look, you made Xiao Hui choke."
Seeing Su Lihui choking, Old Su felt a pang of pity, but she would never admit it was her fault. She glared at Tian Aixiang and said, "As a mother, you can’t even take care of your own child. What’s the use of our Su Family having you?"
In the end, Tian Aixiang was still scolded by Old Su. She was furious but didn’t dare to speak, her hands clenching into tight fists under the table.
Zheng Erlian curled her lip and said to Tian Aixiang, "Third Sister-in-law, Lihui isn’t a little kid anymore. You should teach him some manners. He’s a big boy now, yet the elders haven’t even started eating and he’s already shoveling food into his mouth. It’s improper. Our Lifeng is only ten, and he would never do that."
"My son is none of your business." Tian Aixiang was already fuming, and hearing Zheng Erlian speak, she immediately snapped back.
"I’m just saying this for your own good. Lihui is so old, yet he understands nothing. If he acts like this outside, he’s going to get beaten up, you know," Zheng Erlian said, rolling her eyes.
"What did you say? Say that again." Tian Aixiang wasn’t having it.
"Enough! If you’re going to argue, take it outside. Can’t you be quiet during the New Year?" Old Su rapped his long-stemmed pipe on the table again. He then said to Su Shengguo and Su Shengli, "You two should control your wives."
Since Old Su had spoken, Zheng Erlian and Tian Aixiang finally quieted down.
Old Su’s thoughts were still on Su Qing. She said angrily, "It’s all because of that damn girl Su Qing! It’s the New Year’s festival, and it’s bad enough a junior like her doesn’t come to pay her elder support fee, but she won’t even show her face! Not even a New Year’s gift!"
Normally, Old Su wouldn’t want to provoke Su Qing; the recent series of events had left her a bit intimidated. But now it was the New Year, and she felt she was in the right, so she spoke with renewed confidence. 𝐟𝕣𝕖𝐞𝐰𝕖𝚋𝐧𝗼𝚟𝐞𝕝.𝗰𝐨𝐦
Hearing Old Su mention New Year’s gifts, Su Lihui, who was beside her, chimed in, "That’s right! I saw Su Qing give a New Year’s gift to the Village Chief’s family. Aunt Zhao was carrying a lot of stuff away. There must have been a lot of good things inside."
"Well, isn’t that just great! That damn girl." Upon hearing this, Old Su completely blew up. "Go get that damn girl! I want to ask her what kind of logic is it for a junior not to give New Year’s gifts to her elders. Even if the Village Chief comes, I’m still in the right today!"
"Enough. Let’s eat first." Old Su wasn’t as optimistic as his wife. From the last time they’d demanded medical fees from Su Qing, he had figured it out. That girl followed the family division agreement to the letter. She wouldn’t give a single cent more than what was written. New Year’s gifts weren’t mentioned in the agreement, and he was certain that damn girl would absolutely not be giving them any.
Old Su wasn’t having it and wanted to send Su Lifeng to Su Qing’s house again. But after a sharp glare from Old Su, she had no choice but to back down. ’When Su Qing comes to pay the elder support fee,’ she thought to herself, ’I’ll be sure to teach her a good lesson.’
The meal on the table wasn’t very appetizing; there was simply too little meat. The Su Family ate without much enthusiasm. As for Su Qing, she couldn’t care less about the Su Family. After turning Su Lifeng away, she returned to her room and took out the letter Li Huan had written her.
But when she saw the first sentence of the letter, Su Qing did a spit take.
