Chapter 11: A Month of Survival

Arthur continued running at full speed and did not stop until he had covered a full three miles. He looked behind him in terror, and when he confirmed that no one was chasing him, he sighed in relief: "I truly survived."

He deactivated the Primal Predator bloodline, for it had drained all his strength, and the moment its effects disappeared he felt extreme exhaustion, his breathing became erratic, and he sat on the ground trembling.

’What was that damned monster? No, what I truly need to think about is why my bloodline reacted to its presence. Is it possible that my bloodline has an ability that makes it capable of detecting the presence of powerful monsters?’

His thoughts fell silent for a moment, he recalled that strange feeling that had emanated from his bloodline when he saw the giant spider. ’This does not make sense, if that were the case, why did my bloodline show no reaction when that terrifying monster roared near my den previously, so there must be another reason.’

No matter how hard he tried, Arthur could not come up with a logical explanation, of course, that was understandable, for he effectively knows nothing about this world, and the little knowledge he has is not of much use.

’I am very weak, I understand that well, but I must not be ignorant as well. I must gather as much information as possible about this world, tsk, if only the system were cooperative, I do not know whether it is playing dumb with me, or whether it has some kind of malfunction, it barely answers my questions.’

The longer he stayed in this world the more things he had to worry about, and this bothered him greatly, especially now that he knew there was a giant insect of unbelievably powerful strength living near his den.

The distance separating his den from the spider’s nest was only four miles, this may seem like a long distance for a mere human, but for powerful monsters like the spider, he was literally living in its backyard, and if he bothered it in any way, it would finish him off.

"Damn all of this." Arthur could only cry out in frustration, he continued sitting in his place resting, and when he regained a little of his strength, he ran to his den and hid as he always did after every disaster he faced.

As he had planned earlier, he ate the rabbit which barely provided him with any energy, and spent the next two days recovering, by the third day he had fully recovered.

The moment he woke up in the morning, he left his den quickly as though he were a prisoner who had not tasted freedom for a long time, of course, Arthur was not thinking about freedom, but he could no longer bear his hunger, his stomach had stuck to his back because he had not eaten any proper meal for days.

As any sensible person like him would do, he headed north and avoided the south entirely, for he did not want to encounter that terrifying spider again, and after a long time of searching, and two failed hunting attempts he managed to catch a suitable prey, which was a type of strange monster he had never seen before.

Since he was extremely hungry, this was the first time he did not mind eating raw meat, in fact he savored eating it, when he finished his meal he wished there were more, so he went hunting again.

In the evening he returned to his den, and slept, and the following morning he repeated the same thing, he roamed the forest until he found prey, hunted, then returned to his den, he avoided going out at night, for as they say the night has its masters, and he does not want to meet them currently.

The days passed slowly, and little by little he adapted to his new life, he worked hard and gained as much XP as possible, and also explored a large part of the forest, his knowledge of the nature of the place and its creatures increased, and he discovered that the next Rank after F-Rank was E-Rank.

...

Rustle!

From between the dense shrubs two blue eyes tinged with a little red emerged, then slowly the rest of Arthur’s fierce facial features appeared, he fixed his gaze on the area before him, and coldly watched a group of wild deer grazing in peace.

Like the rest of the monsters of this world the deer were not ordinary, for they possessed horns and large bodies with hard and cracked skin that resembled tree bark, and their horns were long and dense, filled with sharp blades.

[ Tree Deer — Common — F-Rank ]

Unlike his usual habit, Arthur acted with a kind of impulsiveness, he quickly examined the deer, and after identifying his target, he licked his lips greedily, and slowly began creeping toward it.

As usual he followed his instincts, concealed his presence as much as possible, and when he got close enough, he released his full strength, and surged toward a fat deer that had a small injury on its leg.

The great force of his charge made the soil fly behind him, and he covered a distance of six meters in a single step, the deer heard the commotion and fled away at their maximum speed. 𝒻𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘸ℯ𝒷𝘯𝘰𝑣ℯ𝑙.𝘤𝑜𝘮

He was expecting this and remained calm, keeping his eyes fixed on his prey. But despite its injury the fat deer was very fast, and within seconds it widened the gap between them and escaped leaving a cloud of dust behind it.

"Damn." Arthur gave up and stopped running, he gritted his fangs hard and this made the savage redness in his eyes intensify. ’This is the third time I have failed today, the matter is starting to become annoying, I am exhausted, and hungry as well.’

A month had passed since he came to this world, and despite the many terrifying events he had gone through, he had begun to get used to his new life as a wolf.

During this period, he had gathered a great deal of knowledge about the forest, acquired a new skill, and, most importantly, made significant progress in his current rank.

Only 61 XP now separated him from E-Rank, and all the credit for that went to his diligent work and smart hunting strategy, for he had not let anything alive escape his claws: insects, fish, small monsters, and even some strange fruits he had discovered a week ago that granted him 30 XP when he ate them.

That was very strange, and this made him realize that those fruits were not ordinary, and because of this he began to pay more attention to the plants in the forest, for who knows what kind of benefits they contain.
